I find it interesting that RTD has chosen to introduce more god like characters in his new era. In his first era he banned all god like characters being used (hence why there's no time lords). Moffat in series 2 actually pitched idea that RTD struck down because it involved god like aliens.
@@callumarcadio Yeah, I think he's confused this a little, in season 2 Satan was penned at the suggestion of the producer, as he confronted Davies with the idea that there wasn't enough godlike beings in Doctor Who like there had been in the classic era

Absolutely holding my tongue on this until it's out because EVERYTHING else is blatantly pointing toward an absolutely brilliant new era for Doctor Who, but every time I hear a little bit more elaboration on this new 'fantasy' angle, I DO get growingly more concerned. The techno-babble and intrinsically science-based side (fast and loose as it may play) of Doctor Who has always been my favourite part of the show and a big part of what attracted me to it as a child in the first place. Hearing Russell say stuff like, "You don't question why the ship is flying." or "Let's be honest, it's just a werewolf." is a little disconcerting to me. I absolutely love Russell, but I just can't agree on that! As a kid, I always waited with baited breath for the sciencey mumbo jumbo that followed. I ALWAYS question why the ship is flying or how werewolves have come to exist. The fun of it for me has always been "Okay, so we know this isn't real. It's a TV show. Of course it's not. But, on paper, COULD it be? In another universe or reality; in another time, in just the right circumstance, with just the right coincidences, could this story reasonably play out?". As a child, I found a great deal of fun in a playful pseudo-'belief' in the Doctor in a similar way it's fun to look up at the stars and imagine alien life on other planets. Science says it's possible, but we don't know for sure that there is any because we've got no empirical evidence. It's reasonable to believe alien life exists, and it's not overly farfetched to believe there may be extremely advanced races of aliens capable of bending spacetime to suit their ends, or even that one particular individual might have left their planet to travel the stars getting into all manner of scrapes and shenanigans. So, the basic premise of Doctor Who and most of its stories sort of work (granted, often messily) on a theoretical level, and I think that's where I've personally always found the joy in it. Extending purely into fantasy just feels a little too jump-the-shark-y for my taste. Again, I'll wait until it's out and, on balance, I am more excited for the show than I have been in a long while, but I do worry that the show is really going to lose something so core to it that it may genuinely affect the enjoyment of budding, young, science-folk and geeky fans such as myself. I will say that in any case, the Toymaker's explanation of "making a jigsaw out of [the Doctor's] life" DOES go some way to helping. I just hope that we still get enough techno-babble going forward to continue to juuust suspend disbelief enough to shrug things off as it always has. I've really missed the Doctor tasting substances, collecting samples, and running things through computer scans in recent years. Frankly, it was a thrill to see Tennant licking a computer component in Wild Blue Yonder. I just worry that I've seen this before with Wizards vs Aliens (also written by Davies) taking over the Sarah Jane Adventures slot on CBBC. We went from sci-fi straight into fantasy - fair enough, it's a different show - but I'm not sure the audience response there was as positive as hoped.
No Dr. Who is not fantasy. No it's not narnia. It is science fiction, end of story. Continuing to pretend otherwise will make this show rated even lower than Chibnall's run.
RTD never understood the Doctor which is why he wants to humanise him. He tends to write soap opera fantasy and steals ideas from Classic Who constantly except Classic Who is infinitely superior compared to his trash.
@@lexruptor RTD’s stolen from Classic Who, Satellite 5 idea of revisiting a place where events have moved on taken from Classic Who’s Ark in Space. Aliens using human skins in Aliens of London, Boomtown taken from Classic Who’s Leisure Hive etc etc etc… RTD rips off Classic Who and other sources because he doesn’t have an original science fiction concept in his head and can only write soap opera/Social dramas. He then made the Doctor act more human by flirting and kissing women, something the first 7 Doctors in Classic Who would never do. He brought Doctor Who back to spoil it.
I'll put up with any magical nonsense happily.... I just so sincerely dont want any more musicals. The goblin one was more than enough for the whole 60 years of the show, please dont Disney it THAT way
There are exceptions I can make for diagetic examples.
