  • Fanuel Amimo was one of the most vocal Luhyia musicians in Kenya in the 1960s to the 1970s, with his Butere jazz band. One of his most famouspieces in his repertoire is "Rosa nokhwebwe" which is simply a wedding serenade of some sorts, announcing Rosa's forthcoming wedding!

    I was a mono in 1977 when I heard this song. Can repeatedly listen to it a whole day. A very nice song, I love it though I don't understand the meaning & language. Pure Kenyan song.

    Fanuel Amimo....one of the stars when Artists from Ingoland ruled the roost..... sadly this era of amazing creativity seems to have faded away in a manner reminiscent of that of their Lake shore neighbours with their Benga genre!!

    Oh My God!!! Fanuel Amimo you take me to a place no one else has!! This song takes me back to my days at Chekalini primary school 28 years back going to school after Anunda Sakwa playing it on KBC. Kudos omukhulundu

    Fanuel Amimo- the head of this band "Butere Sharpshooters" is still alive. Consider visiting Butere in Western Kenya. This song was sung in 1972.

    As kids we used to listen to these kind of music and we would argue amongst ourselves who, among the musicians in Kenya at the was the best? We unanimously agreed that George Mukabi was no 1; Peter Akwabi no 2; Fanuel Amimo no 3 and Brown Amukhoya no 4. We may have been right or wrong.

    The whole album was mambo yote. By the way huu wimbo ninafikiri ulitolewa in 70's. Ninakumbuka salemen wa medicines walikuwa wakukatika huu wimbo wakiuza medicines huko Kapsabet. Unaweza kuload the rest of the albums.

      John Omeno, it is true that he is the only musician in Butere and none of his calibers has emerged to replace or help him. he should have mentored someone even his Daughter or Son if at all he had them. Beautiful.
