Steve, you are my number one go-to channel to learn editing and shooting, and I have learnt a ton over the past year, and will probably keep learning for years to come. So big THANK YOU! Keep 'em coming :)
Thank you so much Steve. I started my UA-cam channel in February, and thus far I have created 35 videos. Even though I have produced quite a bit so far, I am still very much the beginner/amateur. Your tutorials have been so valuable in my learning curve. You reinforce that it is all about fundamentals first before breaking rules and so on. Watching this video, my biggest mistake is color grading. I have definitely gone haywire in a few of my videos, so that is something I must improve upon. I'm looking forward to more learning!
Great tips! Keeping this as a memo: 10 VIDEO EDITING MISTAKES EVERY EDITOR SHOULD KNOW 1. Overusing transitions 2. Poor organisation 3. Flow state editing 4. Not using B-roll (cutaway footage) 5. Using shots for the sake of using shots - not adding to your Story 6. Poor music choice 7. Not using sound effects 8. Poor colour grading 9. Cheap looking graphics 10. Ignoring the 180º rule
We want to learn more things like this. I really like your teaching knowledge and videos. You have a great skill. Seeing your art makes me jealous 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love these videos! As a creator just starting out, I can see where I've been making mistakes and how I can take my videos to the next level. Thanks. I'm excited to apply what I've learned here.
Since the time i landed on your channel, i literally started making notes and learned whole lot of things, the way you explain things, make it easier for us to learn, God bless you, THANKS!!! KEEP POSTING!!! RESPECT, YOU ARE A AN AMAZING GEM! LOVE YOUR WORK!!!
I think sometimes when you not use certain music type for some scenes and replace to some opposite emotional music can make some interesting comedy effects....
Many thanks for such an informative and useful presentation of the material! Although my English makes me sad, but I watch videos with subtitles with auto translation, and what do I want to say.. You explain everything so simply that I just wonder why I couldn’t understand it from other videos before. Wild like and subscription. Thank you!
05:39 That is funny as hell. By the way, I'm very happy to see that you stress the importance of sound and its impacts. Not everyone realizes just how important the sound aspect is, but it's 'make or break'. I've even noticed that good sound can at times make up for relatively poor video footage. You know, as a recent subscriber, I've been watching your vids of late, and I'm finding them very helpful. They're inspiring me to up the ante in terms of my own video production (which I should have been doing already, tbh). I like that fact that they are straight-forward and utilitarian. The examples of techniques, comparisons, et al... all very, very helpful. Great stuff~!
Thanks, I’m really glad you enjoy the videos. I’ve been spending a lot of time working BTS on my first online course this year but it will be released soon so more regular content will be uploaded 👍
Amazingly interesting, but for a rookie creator with a very niche expertise in eco-therapy and mental health its a challenge to find story arcs. have you talked much about story boards?
I am the first to comment. Hurray! And what a great video :-). Flow state is the one tip which I appreciate the most. Or, is it the one on transitions. Heck, all is good.
Thanks Andreas, I appreciate your comment. Flow State editing is a game changer and will massively improve your edits. It’s easier said than done but definitely worth ‘Getting in the zone’ as much as possible 💻👌
Steve, I am trying to download your black bar, and the free LUT, but I am having problems. What do I need to do to fix this problem? I am a big fan of your videos. Keep them coming.
Hi Steve, Fantastic tutorials. So I'm about to use your Epidemic sound link , but what editing platform would you recommend? I've been using caput as a complete beginner, but think I need to move to a better editing platform. Thanks for the footage and Tips. John 👍
Personally, I use Final Cut Pro on a Mac, but this cost around $300 (a one-time payment). I find this program incredibly user-friendly, but with all the professional features. Many others use adobe premiere pro but for me. It is not as user friendly requires a monthly subscription (costing around $30 a month) Once you start to create projects using this program, you kind of have to stick with it as your projects will be within Adobe which you would need to pay for to access Da Vinci Resolve is another great editing program. There is a free and a paid version, my recommendation would be to start with the free version and upgrade to pro once you were happy with how everything works. Hope this helps. Thanks, Steve
Granted you have a stake in music choices, I would add not to over produce with music and always pay attention to natural sound. Often the best sound of scenes.
I use the Canon R6 for all my talking head shots (with 16-35mm lens). I use this set up as it’s great in lowlight and has a flip out screen. It’s possible to get a similar shot with an action camera but just be mindful of the cameras lowlight capabilities. If you’re using an action camera indoors then you’ll need a lot of light to avoid a grainy image.
Thank you for the reply,, im planing on starting a chanel and found out that my b roll fotage is wonky like im drunk 😅,, first i thougt of shoting with my mobilephon.. but its a 5 y old model .. will do more reserch 👍🏻
Might be one of the most important videos that us new youtubers should watch. Thank you very much!
Avoiding these 10 mistakes will massively improve your edits! A lot of this is knowledge rather than skill so all really easy to apply 💻👌
Steve, you are my number one go-to channel to learn editing and shooting, and I have learnt a ton over the past year, and will probably keep learning for years to come. So big THANK YOU! Keep 'em coming :)

I'm in the middle of my biggest edit yet. This video could not have come at a better time! Great tips, Steve.
Thanks Brett, I hope these tips help with your edit. Good luck my friend :-)
One of my pet peeves that people do is to add a paragraph of text to a video and not allow enough time for people to read it.
It's what the pause button is for.
Nice trolling! 😂@@TrollMeister_
Steve, the scene with the two fighters has made my day
I'm the happiest man all around the world when I watch your videos. Thanks man ❤❤❤😂
We want to learn more things like this. I really like your teaching knowledge and videos. You have a great skill. Seeing your art makes me jealous

Simple tips but it surprising that many people don't talk about this stuff. I needed to hear this. Thank you so much!!!
I think sometimes when you not use certain music type for some scenes and replace to some opposite emotional music can make some interesting comedy effects....
Very true! Always experiment with music, sometime using music that feels the opposite to the visual can work really well 🎵 👌
Great video with lots of extremely useful info 👍🏻 Thank you for making superb content 🙏🏻
Thank you for this video from Sri Lanka 💙

What a shame that affiliate link for epidemic sound has expired. You got a new one Steve?
Interestingly, for me, sometimes distractions can force me into a "flow state".
