Cool! I have a 209 and a 209 Peer. Sweet reels. The only issue i have with the peer is the clicker button. Sometimes it engages and sometimes it doesn't.
actually most of the time i find the best way to solve that issue is to take the clicker button and clicker knob apart, clean and reinstall it with a tiny bit of grease. but usually i very carefully adjust the click spring tension too. sometimes that is too tight or the angle is of a bit off and it doesnt receive the clicker knob thing very well.
You likely have a bent or worn click ring. You can reshape it by removing the non gear side plate and re-shaping the ring to restore tension or you can replace it the way I did it in the video Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle the ring is good, i think the pin holding the switch plate and the pawl or what ever the name is is worn out. It's loose and floppy lol. It probably needs replaced but it is pressure fit or riveted together. My brother had it given to him when he lived in Florida and he gave it to me when he got back up here in Pa. I will check it out again and see what i can find out. I don't use the reel so it's no big deal.
Dennis, I have a 209 that has play in the shaft that the star drag and handle mount on. If I hold the reel in my left hand and pull on the star drag/handle the whole assembly moves 'in and out' a bit. Seems to me that this should not happen. Could it be that the drag washers are badly worn? The reel has not been serviced in a long time. I've disassembled the reel enough to see that there is a lot of old, dried grease inside.
If the gear sleeve is moving in and out, the cause is not the drag washers. There is a pin that holds the gear sleeve to the bridge post. One of three things could cause the movement. The first is the the pin is worn or missing. The second is that the groove on the bridge post has become worn and widened and the last is that the pot of the bridge post has broken off. The solution is either replacing the sleeve, the pin or the bridge, depending on the cause - Dennis
Dennis i have 209 penn peer and my worm gear is not going left or right any way you could help me getting it too work properly. Sorry my levelwind is not moving left or right.
It could be several things and most likely is a line guide pawl or broken idler gear. Watch this video as I go over all of the potential causes that you should check. ua-cam.com/video/MyY1rDiWgp8/v-deo.html I use an Ambassadeur for the illustration, but the process and steps apply to your reel - Dennis
Dennis, I got a question, why don't you make a video,s of you fishing. saltwater near where you live I watch all your videos,s but you never go fishing go out for all who watch your videos I am from CT.
I am not good at fishing with a camera. There are a lot of other folks that do this much better. However, I just posted a video of our trip where we took a YMCA camp group out on the water. That was a lot of fun. We let the kids do the fishing so I have a chance to do some videos - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Dennis your knowledge of these old reels never ceases to amaze me. Always enjoy watching you bring these reels back to life. Keep up the great work.
