*Fun fact about Ontario Highway 417:* Kilometer markers of highways in Ontario often go west to east or south to north. 417's kilometer markers are in reverse as east to west. I don't know why.
The kilometere markers start at the east end of the 417 because that's a fixed end point for the highway. When exit numbering was first applied to the 417, the highway's western terminus was only at Hwy 7 at the western edge of Ottawa. The 406 is another anomaly as the exit numbers start at the northern end of the highway and progress southerly.
Agree. I’m tired of seeing the 417 so clogged up. They should also build a tunnel from the Nicholas Street and 417 interchange to the MacDonald Cartier bridge so the downtown streets can’t be filled with truck and cars.
@@HAA0603 Can't build a tunnel, city has done many studies and there are too many existing underground pipes in the way. Some are really deep for storm water.
Smooth ride, man! Hopefully the widening will soften up traffic a bit... Is it true that traffic is bad in Ottawa anyway? Speaking of widening, the MTQ recently announced the transformation into full freeway of the remainder of A-55's 2-lane undivided part that I fully covered in my first video. The sad part is that the expected start of roadworks will maybe be in 2022, depending on a controversial bill (I know, considering us, shocker!) that aims to speed up the process of all kind of projects, including infrastructure, which was criticized for giving too much power to the government while removing some for the opposition party. Also, in 2022 is election year, so there's a bit of pressure for the population. xd
I drove this multiple times in 2013...yeah, during rush hour, things get really tight through there. A lot of stop-and-go or even stop-and-crawl conditions. Definitely one of the more congested freeways in Ontario province for sure.
I’d heard about the plan to twin A-55. Even if they just eliminate that one traffic signal it would be a huge improvement. And yeah, Ottawa has worse traffic than one would expect for a city of its size.
Autoroute 520 was under construction when I drove it this summer. I doubt it’s something that I’d ever film. Knowing youtube however it’ll probably be on there at some point though.
Thank you for your help ! Richard Jr.
Oh wow this is nice so cool
fantastic night drive. It looks like Ottawa's freeways are pretty well lit at night too!
The 417 has seen a lot of upgrades over the past decade or so.
Awesome video...very nicely done!!

Another fact about 417 is it's an upgrade of what it used to be part of Highway 17.

@@cvr24 bummer
Why eight lanes?
I always hated that curve around 0:33 where MTO couldn't make up their mind what radius it should be, so it changes halfway through!
