These actors are more believable than Hollywood actors who are too soft and clichéd! Great video!
muahaha
GREAT MOVIE ! Think about all the effects are real no cgi . And real tanks no computer generated and real ppl real dirt that flys around in there faces and real canons. amazing .
I saw this movie in Melbourne around 1970 and have been trying to find it for years, thank you so much for putting it on here.
This old movie?54 year?
Я этот фильм посмотрел в 1971 году. Мне было 9 лет..
Nice to see a film about WW2 that isn't Anglo-American for a change. Thank you so much Mosfilm for cleaning this up to Blu Ray picture quality and providing English subtitles.
USSR and Russia has made more ww2 than the rest of the world combined. You should try to watch some others too;)
Indeed! And no fast cuts when the actions starts like Hollywood does it, so you barely can see or tell whats going on in the surrounding areas. Here they give you all that on a big scale, no holding back and no teasing whatsoever.
Best of the best movies. No any digital graphics just real action...Very truthful as well. Start with Battle for Moscow - 2 parts, then Stalingrad - 2 parts and Liberation - 5 parts. So it will cover the whole period of the war - 1941-1945. All movies created by Y. Ozerov.
This is what I called a real life battle action film, firmed by real numbers of real men without any fake CGI and computerised effects.
My thumbs up and my greatest compliments to the real life war films of the past. A real epic masterpiece.
The problem is sometimes there's t60s and t34s on the German side it's freaking confusing
@@dylanubas6796 This is a feature film, not a documentary. The main thing is the symbol of the German tank
@@dylanubas6796 "freaking confusing " - but it does not confuse you that historical figures in the cinema are played by actors, and not by the personalities themselves. Marshal Zhukov was played by an actor in the film, and not by Zhukov himself.🙂
@@dylanubas6796 pretty sure those are IS-3s and IS-4s, remember that this was shot in 1970, where T-62 and T-64 tanks are still in service
@@dylanubas6796 to be fair both sides left a lot of throphies to each other so it isn't entirely impossible
Amazing movie...I'm just finished the first part, and will watch til part 5, Great history lesson. Thank you Heroes for liberating humanity from Nazi scourge...again...Thank you to our Veterans and thank you to the members of the Special Military Operation! I wish more of humanity was awake to the truth of it all....One love. God Bless!!!
I did watch the series "behind enemy lines" and was so disappointed, despite everyone saying it's the best movie. The Liberation series has lower budget, but the movie is pure realism without the blood. When captive is shot, I could feel the fear of death. Liberation movies are realist showing action exactly the way it happened, with tank crews fighting against each other at the river for example. Only limitation is war damage on vehicle, of course they could not damage tank reliques. Thank you for NO SWEARING in these vintage movies.
Dies ist der geschichtsträchtigste Film, den ich je gesehen habe, weil er eine Menge Geschichte enthält
The series is amazing, the casting for the historical figures is spot on and I haven't seen huge-scale WWII battles like this. This is the 1970 Waterloo of WWII films
I mist watched a two part russian film on stalingrad… just remarkable. Stalin and Hitler actors were spot on
totally disagree with you churches walking around all the time with a cigar stuck in his mouth and even his statements are fack and totally irrelevant they made him sound as defeatest very stupid
44:23 shadow of a helicopter on the right
in this movie , all the actors who played the key characters such as Stalin,Hitler,Himmler,Goebels,Zhukov and etc. looked so authentic that one would think they were real
I was looking for a comment about this! Particularly Stalin and Zhukov look absolutely perfect - in Stalin’s introduction I actually did a double take, he looked so close to the photos.
Zhukov actually played himself 😅
The similarity is astounding
Not just them, but marshals and even generals look very alike
This WW2 war movie is as good as anything I've seen. The battle scenes were perfectly filmed. The acting was great by all. What a movie!
Wow, this film is epic, a true representation of history, thank you. 🇬🇧🕊
A unique and phenomenally good eye for detail and realism in all facets of film craft. The Zhukov actor could be his brother, the war materiel likewise is as authentic as it comes. It's an eye-opening masterpiece.
Вы откуда?
I just saw this pop on my feed and started to watch. Wow.. The actors look so much like the real people. Well done. Now to watch the rest of the movie.
Production years from 1967 to 1972? Wow! Damn! Why have I missed it? We have mostly been lied to by Hollywood. I commend and recommend these Russian movies. Not only for the good screenplay, props, actors and the whole production. And I don't see terrible profanity and filthy cuss words like they do in American movies. Go, Russian, Ukrainian, Crimean,
Armenian, etc. we love you more than Hollywood.
Hollywood sucks
I agree on one thing, I hate how Hollywood allows so much cussing and profanity continuously! I hate that!! You can’t watch with your family like your parents, because my parents didn’t curse and I don’t either! So we never watched together even though we’re all adults!
Hollywood under control bankers [Fed.Res.System] It is beneficial for them to turn the citizens of the United States and Western Europe against the Russians. John Kennedy tried to say about these animals bankers. He tried stop «cold war» and stop war in Vietnam.. But they were ahead..
Great war movie. Brilliant direction. Hollywood should learn a lot from such masterpiece. Congrats 👏
I doubt they will ever learn, western movies is about making profits, to squeeze their tight budget into film makings while most of the resources goes into the pockets of rich oligarchs, there is not in a million years they will come up with a better movie than this.
Absolutely briliant film . One of the best war films i have ever seen in my almost 70 years . 10 out of 10 .
Quite strange they did not use the traditional Katyusha sound, isn't it ? I am 65 ... I must detract points for that ...
@@pierredecine1936 perhaps they ran out of Katushya sounds . Everything is in short supply now .
@@samsum3738 True - esp. good sense !
Here I am, back for the 20th or so time to re-watch liberation.
The best soviet movie ever produced.
I like the fact, that they pay such atention for some details....for example, that not all German generals salute with nazi salute. Also, they manage to find actors which are almost the same to many real characters from history.....
Indeed. Even the actor playing Hitler nails the Austro=Bavarian accent quite convincingly.
Ja...Goebbels sein gesehen.
Let's conclude that Russian movie industry has quality?
I've loved Russian ww2 film now for nearly 30yrs..tracked down as many as I could..as people are saying in the comments, the period detail right down to the haircuts is spot on..and the point about not all German generals giving the nazi salute is absolutely right..some of the older men who had fought in ww2 loathed Himmler's SS and were a lot more honourable than their nazi counterparts..my favourite Russian ww2 film has to be 'Fortress of war'..if you have not yet seen it you are in for a treat!
i really enjoy Russian war movies , thank you for this series old fashioned heroism without the current trend for wokism and faking history
Agreed!
Beautiful movie, one of the best ever seen. Congratulations.
Just the sheer Scale of the battle to reproduce on film, wonderful at the time this was produced. Great.
Great movie. A zillion times better than the CGI today.
I like Russian war film and directed from there...thank you for admin thia channel too because always make people with you video, not like other channel put the war film nonsense...this channel honestly for me all video satisfield!!!😍...Thank you from Muslim Malaysia..
I have watched so many documentaries about these generals that it's great to see them acted out in a movie.
amazing movie! I am flabbergasted to not have heard of this or seen this before! Thank you so much!!
This film has 6 parts. This is only part 1.
How have i never heard of this before? Brilliant 👏👏
Perfect war film. Kudos to the director and actors.
They achieved an impressive scale in this film. Really I testing representation of large mechanized troop movements.
Extraordinary movie. A very real impression of what Kursk was like - a massive do-or-die battle for both sides.
It was.
Possibly the finest hour of the Soviet Union. The mere fact that despite all it's alleged shortcomings it could generate such a high level of patriotism, speaks volumes about the loyalty it's citizens had / have towards their country.
My salutation to all of them, and I pray 🙏 that their succeeding generations never forget their yeoman sacrifice in not only saving their country, but the planet from such heinous forces. God bless them 🙏 !!
The best WWII series I have seen.
Watch "Saving Private Ryan", although produced and acted by a bunch of far left Hollywood elitest, it carries a wow factor!
Crazy how Hitler‘s actor nailed his light Austrian accent he also had in the secret recording with Mannerheim!!
He was a German actor. The German command was played by german actors, Italians played by Romanians.
This the 4th time watching this series. It's just as good as the first time.
That opening 10 minutes was so powerful that it shows this movie has the potential to reach and exceed the quality of Downfall!!! That was IMPRESSIVE!
the camera work here is awesome...almost contemporary. Surely great artists worked hard on this
Very underestimated war movie,Kursk tank battle is hard to portray. But no single producer can replicate.Russian army must have been involved.Great and undying work.
Да, в масштабных военных съёмках участвовали несколько батальонов регулярных войск Советской Армии , а консультанты и сам режиссер ветераны Великой Отечественной Войны 1941-1945 года .
It must have cost a fortune to make this movie. But I'm glad they did.
Да, вот так мы сражались! Наши дедушки , наши папы там сражались и дрались до последнего, защищая Советскую Родину , Россию ! Зачем мы должны это забыть!? Нет! Мы это не забудем , и будем помнить многие многие века!

What a film, this history is so important to all of us, and thank you to our Russian brothers and sisters who fought so much....
The USSR was a Union of multiple nations, it wasn't just Russians, but many other union and autonomous republics!
@@Petey0707 The more movies i watch the more i understand. Not taught in our schools. One movie I watched was about Bellarusia, to me these were states belonging to the Union? And they fought as a group against the nazis? And do you share a common language?
@@billearnshaw1074 Belarus, Ukraine, and the Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia) were all independent nations prior to becoming part of the USSR, and they are again today. Although these countries (at the time parts of the Union, some unwillingly) were mostly overwhelmed during the initial Nazi offensives, millions of people from them still fought in the Red Army bravely. Belarusians do speak Russian, but they also speak Belarusian, which has elements of both Russian and Ukrainian, while the other countries have their own languages.
@@broksholk4771 Thank you, beginning to get some grasp of how the area was and is now. From your personal experience do you think Nato is harming these small countries independence or helping? And do you think Putin is trying to take these countries back?
@@billearnshaw1074 I can’t make a definitive statement on that, as I’m not from the region - but from what I understand, NATO is something of a mixed bag in the area. Belarus in particular is much more aligned with Russia, to the point that some have been referring to it as a Russian puppet state. I’m not certain if that’s accurate or not, but I do believe that the current leader of Belarus is something of a would-be dictator. The Baltic states, on the other hand, are all NATO members, although this is primarily due to fears of Russian aggression, which are somewhat tangible. Ukraine is another story, as Russian revanchism is certainly most directed toward this country, as it was probably the most prized region of the USSR - Ukraine is highly populated and a huge food producer, and also has untapped oil wells offshore. It’s not a NATO member, although it has drawn much closer to the alliance in recent years. Russia actually already holds quite a bit of Ukrainian territory today. In 2014, Ukraine was in the midst of a revolution, and Russia took this opportunity to “indirectly” invade parts of the country - specifically the Crimea, which is a peninsula on the Black Sea in the southernmost part of the country. Russia annexed this region after a likely rigged referendum, and also heavily aided pro-Russian rebel forces in the east of the country.
The state of the region today is definitely looking precarious for Ukraine in particular, as considering their close ties to Belarus and occupation of Crimea Russia essentially surrounds Ukraine on three sides. Whether or not Putin would actually pull the trigger on a full invasion, I really can’t say - in the past his modus operandi has favored backing “independent” pro-Russian forces in other nations rather than declaring full scale war, but Russia has also mobilized quite a lot of troops to the Ukrainian border, and that costs a lot of money to do, so there’s probably a reason. It could just be posturing, but in my personal opinion the situation seems pretty volatile. NATO’s been building up some forces in the region, which could either defuse or escalate the crisis, it’s honestly hard to say; Russia’s foreign policy is largely based around being unpredictable, so that their rivals can’t prepare as easily to counter their next move.
This is outstanding. Never have I seen anyone try to capture the scale of the Battle of Kursk and here they do an admirable job. I get the impression it was influenced by , "The Longetst Day", the way they introduce historical characters and have them speak their own languages.
It was literally a response to "The longest day" as soviet politicians felt that moive was a erasure of the soviet effort to defeat hitler
If only they masked those damn T-55s that apear in several scenes (they could have made mockup pz.IVs on their chassis, like they converted those T-34s into Tigers) of the battle,it would have been almost perfect. Also,I have an impression that it would have been more fitting if they actually placed first 5th GTA arriving then showing climactic tank battle on the 12th,but still showing that Germans couldn't go any further.Instead we got Katukov's 1st TA fighting rearguard battle on the 11th.
It's like The Longest Day and The Battle of the Bulge combined - defensive and offensive operations in one movie!
@@kaletovhangar And what's so surprising about that? Watch American movies of that time with Soviet military equipment. The situation is even worse.
@Jens Nobel (That a captured NKVD commissar could instill fear or trust and hope in the captured Red Army men?)
English Wikipedia address "Commissar Order"
The Commissar Order (German: Kommissarbefehl) was an order issued by the German High Command (OKW) on 6 June 1941 before Operation Barbarossa. Its official name was Guidelines for the Treatment of Political Commissars (Richtlinien für die Behandlung politischer Kommissare). It instructed the Wehrmacht that any Soviet political commissar identified among captured troops be summarily executed as a purported enforcer of the "Judeo-Bolshevism" ideology in military forces.

This is brilliant, if you are interested in the Eastern front then this is for you.
As a child, I thought that this was an original filming and for a long time later I could not distinguish between the actors and historical characters. And Zhukov is my hero! Rokosovsky, what a worthy, wonderful person, I respect him very much. I also studied their biography in detail.
I've been binge watching these Russian War Movies. I was impressed with the amount of correct vehicles in these moveis. This is the 1st one where I spotted modern tanks mixed in. I just wonder how many captured German Military vehicles the Soviets repaired and put in storage.
Hundreds
A little wrong. )) In reality, many "German" tanks in mass scenes are modern, only sheathed with plywood and painted. It makes no sense to keep so many real tanks of that time. If you look closely, you can even sometimes see undisguised modern tanks in the massive battle scenes. )) We must remember that these are real shots, not computer graphics.
In addition, in reality, very few early T-34s remained, because their production was discontinued during the war years, and replaced by the T-34-85, and no one tried to save them. Therefore, very often we can see the T-34-85 even in films about 1941-42-43 (we see them here too), although their mass production and entry into the troops began later than the Battle of Kursk. Because these tanks simply remained in good quantities, and the early T-34s did not. And disguising other tanks as early T-34s is impossible because it had a smaller turret.
a lot of modern russian movies have either mock ups or repro tanks. Cant remember the company if it even is one but they were building a bunch of pz iii and iv's
Not many is my guess.

Great thank you to Mosfilm for this. Shame though about the Russian voiceover.
Amazing - the Russian Actor looks exactly like Stalin ... there are 7 Tiger Tanks remaining in the World - and only one (Tiger 131) is in running condition. Wonder how they did this ?
They altered some old Russian T-44 tanks that were still in use in training units, I heard. From 'After the Battle' magazine.
They didn't mention at the start of the film the Panther tanks that the Germans had that weren't ready for some time, then were committed to the Kursk battle too soon.
Arguably, the Kursk battle was the wrong fight for the attackers, it was delayed from 2 to 3 months, depending on the historian you read, and this (plus spies in the German High Command, plus a little help from British code-breaking) meant the Russians had built a truly staggering level of defences in the area, which ground down the attackers steadily, resulting in a costly failure for the Nazis.
It has been said that they never regained the initiative on the Eastern front.
This movie was made in 1971. At that time, the USSR had enough trophies to shoot authentic battles, but with the collapse of the country, a lot went to be melted down, because the movie became useless to anyone, especially about the war

Great movie! Thanks for the upload. I got chance to see it.
Outside of that weird and I inexplicable interlude at 1:02 with the cut away to Churchill and then the Balkans, it was an excellent film. And the video quality, given it was a 1970 film, is extraordinary. Hollywood could learn a thing or two from Mosfilm’s restoration program. Quite remarkable, what they did here.
"After the Battle" Magazine had an article on Yuri Ozerovs Liberation series of films - of which this was the first. Its notable that he tried where possible, to cast actors who looked like the historical figures- very evident in this film. Everyone from Model to Vlasov, Manstein and Zhukov looked very much like their historical namesakes. I was wondering where they obtained all the German Halftracks from (SDKFZ-7s) I counted five in one screenshot.
The Russians must have gotten hold of a whole lot of stuff when the Germans retreated.
They are from Poland 🇵🇱
Agreed. And 'Uncle Joe' himself... Pretty-much in the flesh!
Churchill was a bit too tall and heavy set, with heavy eyebrows... Hitler was fairly close to likeness.
But Zhukov, Vlasov, Model and Manstein were dead ringers.
And what about those beautiful Mercedes U see at the Begin, really impressive !
I believe the half tracks were probably post war Czech OT-810s, copies of the German half tracks
I love this film, Спасибо!
