You can know what the Sims is without specifically knowing that Simlish is the 'language' they speak. I didn't know that either for most of my live, and I've played one of the games as a kid, I don't think they actually ever mention it in the games (at least not the one I played). But I barely spoke English at the time, so I might just have missed it.

They make a joke out of the word for "hello" and "goodbye" being the same, but some languages actually have this lol. For example the italian "Ciao" and "salut" in french. English also has phrases that can act as both (and I would imagine most languages do), for example Bilbo using "good morning" to mean both in the hobbit.
