Havertz gave us the silver plates to serve the first 2 goals: it was his movement to take the defenders with him that created the spaces behind for Martinelli and Jesus. Exactly the same movement twice, and it produced goals.
He is a raumdeuter like Thomas Muller. Very Intelligent rare breed of player. That is why Arteta brought him. His haters are going to eat crow repeatedly down the road.
That midfield instantly took control when Zinchenko replaced Kiwior. Barkley did well but when Ødegaard got more playmates in the middle of the pitch, the combination was too much. And Raya fucked up twice. And someone needs to start keeping a running tally of points Arsenal got from individual contributions by last summer's signings.
I mean, I thought Odegard was mid tier. He forced it too much. Taking long distance shots or taking on players would love to see him slow it down and keep it simple. Turned the ball too many times in the half.
On the Charles Watts channel someone was talking about smashing Luton five or six nil, and Charles very rightly said that there are no easy games in the PL. Luton have already done really well against Liverpool and Spurs. They want to stay in this league and they're showing it. This kind of game to me is a team that could win the league because we're playing to the last second. We did it a lot last year and that can only grow the team togetherness.
The time Zichenko came in also mattered. He will not have done as well with the Luton players still fresh and full of energy. It was spot on to bring him in at that time. 😊😊😊
I think we're too harsh on our keepers, buying into the media frenzy. Raya had 2 bad moments. They don't usually result in 2 goals. Everything he did with his feet was excellent. For the second Barkley was far too close to try and drop on the ball like that, but he just misjudged the distance and it was a good finish. He didnt scoop it into his own net like Onana. It can be a bad night without it being a crisis everytime and a never ending debate over him vs. Ramsdale.
I was watching that game I was beyond upset how the commentators were constantly just bashing both Raya and Ramsdale. Those clueless blokes even said, "This Keeper situation is not healthy". After that lunatic bloke said that. I was thinking to myself. This is why they get all that negative media pressure and unwanted pressure. Arsenal are always targeted under the British media. They even said, "If the points remain the same, this will make HUGE HEADLINES". I don't honestly get the unwanted attention coverage.
I know that stats are supposed to back Raya over Ramsdale, and Raya is better with his feet, but if given the choice of Ramsdale from last season and Raya I’d take Ramsdale every time. I just like Ramsdale’s size and energy and he has made a lot of big saves for the team. Raya has had a lot of easy games so far and I just haven’t seen anything from him particularly impressive. He has been the established no1 for awhile now and he was very poor on Luton’s 2nd and 3rd goal tonight.
Honestly, I think it’s in large part due to English bias. The fact that Ramsdale is more charismatic than Raya is, and we liked him as a person, and fans struggle to see that statistically raya is generally better (albeit marginally). Makes it's kinda of easy to fall into that narrative.
I love this team's habit of scoring late goals. When the game got to 80, 90, even 95 minutes I was still thinking we had a chance, and I'm sure many other fans felt the same. This is just what we do. I don't know if its belief (both Arsenal and the opponants) because its happened so often, or if its a fitness thing, maybe our possession just tires the other teams out late. Its just good to know that no game is over until the final whistle.
James, you were the same person saying just last week ‘look at Alisson, even the best keepers make mistakes’. Please keep consistent, Raya’s been top last month or so
Surely the point of having two "top" keepers is to push each other. If Raya gives away two goals in a game, but keeps his place, how motivated will Ramsdale be to improve?
Luton worked so hard. I wish them the best for the season. Jesus was cracking tonight, very strong. I don't think we should be worrying too much about defence... it hasn't been the pattern of the season so far, so no need to overreact... they'll work on it. Great game for the neutral, great result for us Gooners!
It's odd for the analysis to keep being about the goalkeeping situation being an issue when you are top of the table in both competitions you are competing in. I guess they need to moan about something.
Thought our front 5 were all excellent in a difficult game. If we hadn't conceded so many, there would be a lot more talk about how well that seems to be working and Havertz was an important part of that (even in the goals where he didn't touch the ball). Very promising.
The sign of true champions! Didn’t play our best especially in defence as we didn’t defend their first goal & Raya gifted them their second & third goals like WTF! YET our team got back to cooking & still won! COYG 😍👏🏾🤩💪🏾
Ramsdale had mistakes in him which is the case for all goalkeepers but one thing that makes me more confident of him over Raya is his height and it's shown today
The low shot I don't really care about but another crossed ball leads to a goal - that's 4 if you count the Chelski fluke, but you can see how stuck he is and why a miss- timed cross could go in.
Think Kiwior was a poor choice and it showed. The upgrade to Zinchenko was evident, especially in the build-up phases. Havertz is finding his feet and his movement to drag opponents away and create space was wonderful. He looks like he's beginning to understand the system and how he can contribute. Think there's something to be said for the cumulative effect of a goal keeping error leading to another. Still felt Raya had a poor game but he wasn't fully at fault - Martinelli let his runner go and White left Barkley alone to get back into defensive shape. They could have both been prevented. Onto the next.
We need to go for the jugular more, this won't work in our favour long term, I hope Arteta gets the defence refocused, we really need to keep individual mistakes down over this Xmas period, this is where things can fall apart as we've seen before
A team with the best defensive record in the league should not lose two goals direct from corners. Since only about 2-3% of corners result in goals, that is a terrible defensive record from corners.
It's a issue but putting enough shots on goal and creating enough chances is the thing that could be the reason IF we do not win something this season.
I do wonder if how much of it is real, and how much is just things being amplified. Alisson made nearly as many errors in one game as Ramsdale/Raya have this season. But it got relatively little attention because it wasn't a talking point with a preexisting narrative. There's probably some extra pressure on them, but every player makes mistakes.
@@bighamster2but Alisson is also worth +6-9 points a season with his shot stopping. Raya’s mistakes aren’t just with the ball at his feet only but with basic goalkeeping. I’ve never seen him make a save that he shouldn’t he’ll never in my view save us from losing a game but will instead definitely cost us games, which isn’t a winning trade off.
Raya is better than Ramsdale even in matches he makes mistake because he does other things that helps the team. It is better for Arsenal fans to get behind him. A lot of goalies will struggle on that Luton's pitch. The whole defensive strategy for crosses did not work so I can't blame the goalkeeper alone.
It was reminiscent of last season and in many ways it much more entertaining and fun. But simultaneously it does highlight why Arteta is seeking greater control over games because you can't win like that every week and ergo you can't win the title like that. Important three points though and that's the main thing.
Raya has barely been tested since he's come in as number 1 keeper, tonight he was tested and came up short. Twice. I would bring back Ramsdale, who I think is a better shot stopper. And keeping the ball out of the net is pretty much the most important thing for a keeper, right? Odegaard was immense. If we're gonna get anything from this season we need him playing like that every week. Man of the match for me.
Moreover, he kept on going long on goal kicks when under pressure. In which case, what's the difference? (Especially as they weren't reaching their targets most of the time.)
Problem now is if Arteta plays Ramsdale, he will destroy Raya's confidence. Meanwhile, Ramsdale would be so anxious to perform well that he would probably make bad errors. There is a technical expression which perfectly describes this situation - it's fucked.
Whatever Ramsdale’s faults he has saved us numerous games last season, Liverpool away, Spurs away (saved with his feet!). Raya will never stop us from losing a game but he will certainly cost us games and ultimately Raya will cost us the league
I remember watching our games live last season, and Ramsdale made important saves on a regular basis and often at critical points in games where we were rocking. I just don’t see that in Raya - when do we see him make the vital fingertip saves or instinctual reaction stops Rams did last season? Raya doesn’t seem vocal or aerially dominant, and although his distribution is good I wouldn’t say it is a massive upgrade. Just feel it is a shame that Arteta seems to have decided he’s sticking with Raya even though he’s done nothing to prove he’s the better option.
I've seen a lot of harsh comments towards Raya recently. Anyone who played GK before understands how awkward that kind of shot is to save because it's too close to the body. Granted how he handled the corner was poor but it seems as if all keepers in the league have lost the ability to defend their area, look at Allison last week. He was very good with his passing though. The teannates still believe in him and that's what matters!!
Issue I have is that he can use his foot, or he can take a quick, small step to the left and stop it, he’s used the wrong technique. I understand it’s a split second decision but for a goalkeeper at his level he should be doing better.
Raya is shite. But sadly, Ramsdale is shite now too! Barring injury to back 4, we will not lose the title to that. Instead we will lose the league because of this stupid goal keeper thing. And if we do lose it due to that,,,than this is all on Arteta. Self-inflicted nonsense. Now we have two broken keepers instead of one good one. Save for Rice, the keeper issue would be so front and center right now that the fan base would be rabidly calling out Arteta.
Declan Rice has two last minute winning goals vs two small clubs.
Luton Town and Manchester United
Ha! I didn't know where you were going with that but you closed it out in the end like Rice!
Bit harsh on Luton fella! 😂

I think the plan was 0-70mins of a tall physical team and then get the technical players in for the onslaught in the end.
I mean, I thought Odegard was mid tier. He forced it too much. Taking long distance shots or taking on players would love to see him slow it down and keep it simple. Turned the ball too many times in the half.

My guy still feeling them drinks from last night. Congrats on winning the award, what a way to celebrate it. Up the f’ing gun!
The fact that Arteta got booked for celebrating at the end, meaning he won't be on the touchline for the Villa game 🙄 refs want him to be a robot?

I remember Alison having a bad patch a few years ago. People started to rip into him. Raya will be fine.
Lol Raya has no credit in the bank and is nowhere near Allison's level to be given the benefit of the doubt. We need better asap.
@@TetaTalk Leave off mate FFS.

Raya's lack of height really bothers me. He looks tiny on crosses and even smaller on penalties.
Four goals from four different players, Havertz gets a quick reply as well, its all about the 3 points
Thought our front 5 were all excellent in a difficult game. If we hadn't conceded so many, there would be a lot more talk about how well that seems to be working and Havertz was an important part of that (even in the goals where he didn't touch the ball). Very promising.

You think of some of the magnificent saves Ramsdale made last season, e.g. Liverpool, with Raya in goal we concede simply because of height
Do you celebrate even though you’re in the press box?
Am I still drunk? Brilliant. 😀
The ability to play 97th minute pass like it is the 1st minute is a super power
How are the Luton fans unhappy with the referee? They were 'lucky' not to concede 2 penalties.
Congrats on the award, to you and all at arseblog
James commented on the Arseblog about the yellow card given to Arteta. It's perfect: :"Trampling joy."
If Arteta was serious about competition for keepers, Ramsdale is in the side for the next game 100%. Raya is having a blunder every game.
The low shot I don't really care about but another crossed ball leads to a goal - that's 4 if you count the Chelski fluke, but you can see how stuck he is and why a miss- timed cross could go in.
