You two are so adorable especially at the dancing part. I know what it's like working with your SO. It can be difficult, wonderful and a learning experience.
+HarleyGin Glad you understand that it's not always easy, but yeah the spontaneous dancing really helps! Over time, we've learned not to get so wound up and annoyed at each other and now we're definitely better at swallowing our egos and learning to compromise :).
Thank you for your great tips! That's what I need to know now! Really appreciate that you take your time to make this video and let us know the things which may help us. Thanks again! Love your channel and please keep doing it! Joy from Taiwan
Thanks Bonecrusher27WTF and I totally agree with that point being important. Sometimes it's difficult working with a spouse, but at the same time, it's easier and faster to work out the kinks.... and it's nice to know you have the same goal and vision in mind.
+Spoon Fork Heart Aw so glad to hear that. I'm glad you can relate...not everyone can. Always nice to meet a fellow cooking UA-camr. Any insights you want to share?
+Chef Julie Yoon Shared insights, YES! You and Joe have super high quality videos, not just film quality, but overall quality. As beginners in the UA-cam cooking 'Yooniverse' we have been picking up little things here and there that are helping us improve our quality, both tech. and overall.
OMG!!!! Thank you soo much!!! My goal is to start a good cooking show of my own and I've spent a lot of time looking for a straightforward answer.. You have so many.. Thank you! You have earned a new subscriber. I'll be watching now!!
+Spoken Pan Oh yay! Good luck on your cooking show. I tried to be as honest as possible in this video. It's not always as easy as people might think and consistency/ longevity is the key... so make sure you don't burn out!
+Ervin Fowlkes You're welcome so much! :) We just wished we had some guidance when we first started...and we're still learning as we go. We try to share when we can.
Hi! I'm new here, and I only found your channel a couple of days ago because for some reason, your spaghetti squash video kept appearing in my suggested videos section and I finally decided to watch it haha.. I just wanted to say, awesome recipes and graphics! I really like the hand drawn illustration, stop motion touch. You have great drawing skills! Also, it's really comfortable watching your videos. It almost feels like I'm watching or listening to a friend. Great job guys! Thanks for the hard work! Subscribed!
+Amu gotdo thanks for your kind words of encouragement... it means a lot to hear these kinds of things. Welcome to our channel! Glad you found us. That's funny that our video kept popping up in your suggested videos section... thankful you finally clicked on it! :)
This is amazing! this is my first video ive seen of you and its because we have been planning to start our UA-cam video and I am the camera guy and really wanted to see what im going to go through. Thank you so much for making this and hope that (God willing) that our show becomes successful that we may collaborate one day. this isnt the channel by the way. we actually start filming today so im really more excited than nervous. Thanks again Chef!
So glad you found this helpful ***** and good luck with your filming! Once you do your first show, it definitely gets easier. And it's okay to adjust and make tweaks along the way... we sure did! We're still learning, and sometimes it's frustrating, but it's also been fun! :)
No problem! We're always happy to be transparent and share whatever knowledge we acquired from experience. We definitely don't know it all, but we're constantly learning as we go!
Thanks so much for sharing what you learned in season 1! I've just started my own cooking show (Melcy's Kitchen, Filipino home cooking) and I can relate to your experiences already!
Awesome... I'm glad you found it helpful and I'm glad you started your own cooking show. It's nice to know you can relate to some of the things I mentioned.
Thanks +Alexa Oo glad you liked the video. Yeah working together is awesome, hard, rewarding, frustrating, and a growing process...but we like it! Glad this was helpful for you!
I am about to start my own cooking show. Your video is much help for starter. I'll be using iPhone 8+ 4k 60fps. with DIY lightning and external microphone. So happy i stumbled on this video.
I'm so glad this helped. Getting started is the hardest part, but know that you can always adjust as you go along. Hope you're enjoying producing your show!
You are amazing! This video was so inspiring. I've been thinking about starting an online cooking show and your video provided so much insight. Thank you Thank you!
Hi Strong House Inn Vermont so glad to hear that because that was one of the reasons we wanted to make this video. It would've been so nice to have watched something like this before we started our cooking show.
Hey, Julie! I love your channel. This video was one of my favorites and one of the most helpful when I first started looking for ideas/advice while developing my own cooking show. Now I just watch because it's a great show :-)
I'm preparing to start my own cooking show and no it's not easy. What lighting do you use and how did you choose your cameras? I really appreciated this video!
No problem Vivid Pantry glad you found it helpful. We'll probably have to make another one of these videos after we wrap up Season 2 since we learned so much more after shooting this season!
So glad this helped. The key is definitely not to stress out but to take it easy and let go of being perfect! I learned this over time, but it's still hard!
Woo hoo lipstickstainsz ! Let us know when you start it! So glad you found this video helpful. We really learned a lot from our experience and have made changes for Season 2, which is definitely making things go a lot smoother. Best of luck on starting your show! :)
A Korean Girl Eats even though you didn't make as many, I feel like you're a natural on camera. But yes... watching my first few videos makes me so uncomfortable haha! Glad you know how I feel.
@Limechillo Twitter....... thank you so much. That was one of the most delightful things ever I've seen in my life. Blessings and thank you so much for all the wonderful things you managed to share as well as what it is like to be with some one you love.
I really like you honesty & loved your advice on what to expect.👍🏼😊 I know it's not easy but I have been thinking of starting my own UA-cam cooking show as well. I am very nervous & optimistic about how my videos might turn out to be. I think I would be terrible at filming myself. If you can, can you please list some of the equipment you use? I know you spoke about your camera but I just wanted to know what equipment you would recommend? Keep up the good work.😉
+FunForShez glad you found this video helpful. Good luck with starting your own channel...I'm sure you'll be great at it. Here's a list of what we use to film our videos. Hope this helps: chefjulieyoon.com/resources/filming-tools/
Thank you, I really appreciate the help.👏🏼 I love your vlogs as well as your cooking channel. You really inspire me to do good & take my cooking to the next level.😉 I'll be looking forward to your next episode. Keep up the good work.👍🏼
Hey awesome tips! I really enjoyed this video and I see so much of myself in this! I think it's so wonderful that you and your husband work together on this and I can't help but ask, are you a born again Christian? You have this great light about you that just makes me feel like God is shining through you. I love it! But even if you're not that's ok I just feel like you shine so brightly and you have such a positive energy about you that's so encouraging. It reminds me of what Jesus has done for myself. Especially with your tips on being so natural and learning how to love and respect your husband and how to compromise! Anyway, I loved this episode so much. I'm going to subscribe! I hope you continue to shine this brightly and don't ever let the world (or the heat 😜) get you down! You're doing really well and I can't wait to see more!
Thank you for sharing your experience with the viewers. I'm starting my own show and have just about all the equipment to begin filming. I like how you mention to be yourself. This is so true when it comes to cooking or interacting with others. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for that video! I has been rerally helpful, since I make my foog blog with my girlfriend as an operator. My blog is in russian, for russian audience, but I was thinking of making stuff in english, cooking russian and eastern european food, do you think that might be a good idea?
We do our stop motion by literally taking pictures of each movement and moving them slowly one at a time and then piecing them together into a video like a flip book.... it's old school but it works for us! Best of luck on your cooking channel! :)
First of all thanks for your great vid! i love also to cook and want also to make a youtube channel but more how to cook with really healthy food like paleo but i am really unexperienced in it how to make this vids as you are cooking. Can you do it also with your phone or? because i have not really a budget for a lot of camera products for filming. Thanks for your advice and maybe you would make a vid about it :)
I don't see anything wrong with filming with your phone. We shoot our ingredients boards with our phone... as well as some bonus clips. Equipment doesn't matter... story does! :) Good luck!
You guys, so many people have asked us about our filming gear so we linked the important stuff in our description box. Thanks for all your feedback and encouraging comments saying that this video was helpful! When we first decided to film it, we thought we'd get maybe 100 views...haha. You guys are the best! Makes me want to keep sharing more helpful tips! :)
I am so glad I came across your video! Me and my husband are just starting a new youtube channel and we are going through the same hiccups. Thank you for the great tips and this will keep me motivated!
I just started my channel and this was great motivation and very inspiring! Your stop animation is so cute, and I appreciate the work you put into all of it. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. So thoughtful of you to share how you do things! I love how you shared about your personal dynamics, as I work with my mom. I love the stop and freeze moments you shared too!💖🌸
Chef Julie Yoon, I'm new to your channel. This is the first video I watched of yours. Keep your heart as you move forward. It's golden!!! Different topic: I'd love to hear your plan for shooting season two and making it less stressful, even if it doesn't work. Some suggestions about making your production season less stressful. I used to work on talk shows for broadcast production. Because there are so many moving parts to a big production. (Especially, people flying in from around the world.) We would spend months in the planning phase, getting everything nailed down and prepared so that all we had to worry about when shooting, was shooting. We would then shoot our entire season in two days. Everything was planned so that we could shoot it live - 1 take, multiple cameras, a switchboard cutting between cameras live during shooting, graphics rendered and queued. (That meant editing was super simple, cutting the in and out point for the entire video.) I know much of it won't fit for you. Too much gear/people/money. But I'm sharing this incase there are some ideas in there that you find useful. I think what you're doing is great, and I hope you don't burn out. I'm cheering for you!!!
Hi Marla! We've actually shot multiple seasons after this video, and each time, we got a little better and did somewhat of what you mentioned. We ended up shooting multiple episodes straight in a week...then would take a break to edit and go again for another week. You're right about it taking too much time, people, money, and resources to shoot it like in a professional setting, but I hope that's something we could achieve one day! I used to work behind the scenes for a cooking show on TV so I picked up some tips from that too and it matches with a lot of what you said. Thanks for your advice and care.
Hi Julie, I am undergoing the very same feelings that u have expressed here. I have started my cooking channel and just a few episodes are done. The channel is Gitaz Kitchen. My daughter is recording me lol and all the drama goes on! But Thanks for this motivational video.
+Gitaz Kitchen I'm always happy to meet a fellow person who gets how hard this is. Glad you could relate to what I was saying. Good luck working with your daughter... yup... working with family is tough sometimes, but also rewarding! :)
Great information. I appreciate your honesty. You don't often find a lot of people within the same field, willing to help others as you do. It's refreshing to see. I wish you both the very best. I believe you'll go far. Dont give up!
Thank you and I totally agree... it's not a competition because there's plenty of space in UA-cam land for everyone. We're glad to help or share ideas whenever we can! :)
Hi Cookingwith Asians that's great that you're about to start your channel. Confidence comes with practice and time. The more you do it, the more used to it you get. Also, you have to relax and try to sound like yourself, even if it's not perfect or polished. The more "rehearsed" you sound, the more inauthentic it comes off, so just picture yourself talking to your friends!
Chef Julie Yoon I haven't tried it out yet, because I haven't been able to buy any spaghetti squash. I found a supplier about an hour away, so hopefully I can try the recipe out soon!
You two are so adorable especially at the dancing part. I know what it's like working with your SO. It can be difficult, wonderful and a learning experience.

Great video. Two years later and still very helpful!!!
Great video on how having the right partner who can really work with you and do things together can be so magical in making your dreams work out.
Thanks Bonecrusher27WTF and I totally agree with that point being important. Sometimes it's difficult working with a spouse, but at the same time, it's easier and faster to work out the kinks.... and it's nice to know you have the same goal and vision in mind.

Good advice...be yourself...because everyone else is taken!

Love U 😙
how do you need to stop motion on putting together Cooking Channel myself I like the approach any help or Insight would be great
We do our stop motion by literally taking pictures of each movement and moving them slowly one at a time and then piecing them together into a video like a flip book.... it's old school but it works for us!
Equipment doesn't matter... story does! :) Good luck!

amazing video... thank you for sharing that!!
i thought it couldve been abt 25% faster
+anthony azeir Glad you liked the video... even if it was 25% too long ;)
Hey i am starting my youtube channel soon about cooking and sharing my recipe. Any tips how to be confident in camera ? Thank you :)
Hi Cookingwith Asians that's great that you're about to start your channel. Confidence comes with practice and time. The more you do it, the more used to it you get. Also, you have to relax and try to sound like yourself, even if it's not perfect or polished. The more "rehearsed" you sound, the more inauthentic it comes off, so just picture yourself talking to your friends!
why it took me so long to find this channel Oh Gurl you got some real great content and recipes looks yummy. Just Subscribed ❤
