I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear someone so experienced say that they have trouble with an area, then to hear such a lovely reaction to the way that the summer trees turned out. I echo others in my gratitude for your lessons; you're a gift!
I have watched and tried to work with many watercolour artists but you are by far the best teacher.
I like your calmness as well as your art. Your teaching style feels inclusive like I'm with you, thank you.
I’m blown away, time and time again by how generous you are sharing and trying to teach us how to maybe one day be able to maybe get a glimpse of how we could maybe do a somewhat good watercolor painting as well.
And every time there is no “hello fresh” or “dollar shave club” crap, I’m relieved.
Thank you!
Your tutorials are fabulous! I like how you show each stage of the process and the details of how to paint the trees' three dimensional aspects...excellent!
Hi Oliver - your videos are by far the most articulate tutorials I have seen over the past few years. Outstanding explanations of your thoughts on how to approach what it is you are focusing on and the reasoning behind the various techniques you use. Just brilliant. Thank you very much.

While addressing my paralyzing terror, of daring to draw and paint something so organic and natural as a tree, your tutorials are beautifully and unpretentiously enlightening!!
Thank you forever
Not only are you a wonderful artist you are a artful teacher! You have solidified my random bits and pieces of understanding into something I am so happy with! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the incredibly helpful tree tutorial. The little section on evergreens will help me capture the winter trees in my neighborhood, which is named “Lake of the Pines.” Michigan is dense with evergreens of many types, and this encourages me to try to paint their differing growth patterns. The section on painting trees in the round was an “ah-ha!” moment for me, as I now realize a critical element that I had been missing. Every one of your videos is worth viewing many times, as you are so very direct and clear and encouraging. Not only do you understand your art, but you understand the viewers and speak to us with consideration and warmth.
Thank you, Oliver! You provide exactly the information I need right now. Hope you will share much more knowledge and skills on You Tube! Your passion for the landscape and watercolour painting is very inspiring!
Thanks for another great video. I appreciate that you explain the reasons for your choices. For example, ‘this is a warmer color because it’s the sunlight side’. That seems an obvious statement when it’s written down, but in the heat of the moment, trying to paint, sometimes the mind goes blank! I am not a stickler for exact color names because those Chan vary from brand to brand, as does the exact shade even if the same pigment is used. What helps me more is knowing if you are getting a warm or cool version of the color, so I can readily match to my palette- and I think you naturally do this.
Thank you for your help! You are a great teacher!❤
Thanks for offering this great content! Your tutorials have helped me create better pieces and have more fun doing it.
I have been eagerly awaiting this new video! Thank you Oliver for such helpful advice. Your tuition on watercolour landscape painting is the best I have ever seen!
I'm struggling with my watercolours and sometimes feel like giving up. But this tutorial gave me new hope. I will now work on perfecting trees. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more presentations of techniques like this one.
Your videos are great, easy to follow and not complicated. Thanks Oliver.
Can't wait to get home after work to try these techniques. So happy I found Oliver Pyle. Love these trees!
Beautiful painting and your teaching techniques are wonderful thanks a lot for your running commentary it helps me to follow 🙏
I want to thank you for teaching me one particular thing which has improved both my painting but also the pleasure I get from painting. Watching how you automatically dry excess water from your paintbrush with a dab on an old towel has been an eye opener for me.
It's a good way of controlling the water on the brush - helps paintings not to look too washed out
Invaluable advice on trees thank you very much, I like that I can see the colour palette and how you vary shades etc.
Hello Oliver, congratulations on your tutorials. The best thing is your delivery, it's more like a quiet narration then a teachery type style and the pace is really good not too much info too quickly. I have all the tools to paint watercolour but got far too bogged down trying to absorb the information on the other tutorials and frustration got the better of me. I am feeling inspired after watching your video's and ready to have another go ! Thank you, Eve
Thanks for a straight forward understandable tutorial. I am remembered to choosing the most appropriate brush for the job, namely, the rigger. Trees can be a challenge like life drawing only they're covered with leaves.
I really like the way you paint trees, learnt a lot from you! Absolutely love it! I downloaded these tutorial, watched them several times.
Many thanks for the tutorial, Oliver! Very useful and practical. Thanks and keep going!
Thank you for this video on painting trees…it’s something we can watch over and over to really get the hang of it. I am practicing doing my trees before attempting a landscape painting.
You make it look easy. Thank you again for teaching us …I enjoy watching your videos.
while most tree tutorials show how to paint a tree on a white background - this was an absolute masterclass. you factor in background, distance, size, groups, different types of trees, season, etc. I learned so much I applied this foundation to some convincing Palm trees! (I live in California)
Part 2 is as good as Part 1 excellent. Regards Peter
You are an excellent teacher and you transmit your wonderful skills in just the perfect manner. Thank you!
Love this explanation of how to draw groups of trees. Watching this makes me want to get started, Thank you. You make it look so easy.
Can’t wait to have time to try this! Thank you for the details you share with the reasoning behind what you do and how to achieve the effects!
Thank you , you just changed the game in 10 min , i cant believe how much better i got from your clear easy steps , thank you
Thank you so much, it was a real help, I do indeed get muddled by too much information when I look at trees.
Great tutorial. Saved to rewatch and will practice. Thank you.
Thank you for your thoughts on colour. The lesson is to get to know our own colours and how they mix and then we can eventually work intuitively as well. i suppose it is to relax with colour. I am learning a lot about technique with the brush and observation of trees. Thank you so much.
Your painting is mesmerising, I aspire to be as confident and competent as this! Thanks for making this work. Both the watching and the listening are instructive and I appreciate this content a lot
Thanks for your great videos on trees Oliver. You break down the methods and skills to a level that I can follow. For example you show different brush strokes, how much water you use and how damp the paper is, and the different edges you achieve.
Love this, thank you! Just getting back into painting after years of artistic neglect. Your tutorials help immensely. Looking forward to trying these techniques. My downfall is making things look too much like a photograph. Very dull. I need to loosen up.
Perfect rendition of trees in watercolor….
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This was so helpful. I love mixing my colors to make greens. There are so many options. My fav is quin gold and phylo blue. I also watched your color tutorial and have made my charts. What fun that was. I look forward to all your tutorials.
Thank you so much Oliver for your patient explanation of watercolour techniques. For those who are serious about learning about this beautiful medium your channel, that I have just found, is absolutely The Best I’ve ever come across over many years. Much appreciated 🙏🏻🌠
Thanks Lee - most kind

I’ve been drawing or painting trees since I was a child and never could figure out how to make them look “real”. You have made the concept clear and precise. Thank you so much for helping me to understand. What a great teacher you are.

You have given me so much enthusiasm to paint the english countryside. Many thanks
Lovely, lovely video....opened my eyes on how I paint trees impact the atmosphere of my painting. Gained insight into interpreting what I see merging with technique so.... thank- you.

34:20 I like to play with watercolor & your videos gave me new insight. 😊
Just amazing! thanks for sharing your experience. Greeting from Italy.
What a wonderful lesson on trees! Thank you so much.
Love these videos Oliver and the way you describe the effect you’re aiming for. I don’t need to know which colors to use or blend I think half the fun is learning which colors work best for you as an artist. Keep them coming!!!
Another great video!!! Clear concise and informative. I love you let the work and your knowledge shine and keep the production to a minimum!! Thank you!!!!!
For me painting trees was so hard that I have botched it many times. Now that I watched you painting trees, I can dare to try it. I really appreciate your tutorial video.
This has been so helpful. You've just shown me exactly what I'm doing wrong! So looking forward to getting it right. Thanks.
Gosh your work is so clean and crisp. Brilliant!

I see your name come up and I know I have a treat in store. Thank you.
Just found this, thank you so much. It helped me a great deal with the whole tree challenge. :)
I really like the way you paint, and i'll try to imitate you as much as I can.
I have never tried water colours but you have inspired me to branch out. I started out with acrylics to oils and some carbon work. I really enjoyed your videos. You earned a new sub. Great art work. Thank you. So beautiful.
amazingly interesting ... and relaxing: I usually have to watch your videos twice because your voice is so calm I fall asleep! Question - How about snowy landscapes?? Looking forward to your next video. Thanks:
Thank you so much for the excellent advice and much needed ( for me anyway) tips. I enjoy the way your videos are made, you said you’re not that good at making them but you are. I would like to see your reference sketch or photo in the frame if possible. As one who overworks a painting , you could show what needs to left out - you will do this as you’re so experienced but I get bogged down in detail sometimes.
I look forward to sitting down with a cup of tea and relaxing whilst watching, then off I go and practice. 😊
Hi Oliver, I just found your channel and I must say it's amazing. I just want to say thanks for sharing your knowledge. greetings from Chile
Have been painting trees like mad after watching this video! Very heartening improvement in skills here, as I am trying to learn from your brilliant instruction. Just received my rigger brush from Rosemary & Co , and I am eager to try out that trunk technique. ( love that way that Rosemary does overseas packages, too - it’s such a thrill to get a fabulous new brush on the porch in her signature box!) Thank you so much for your detailed and encouraging instruction.
Thank you so much, this is amazing!😊
Love your so beautiful countryside 🥰
I’m a new subscriber! Love your way of explaining and painting very beautiful trees. I struggle with painting trees. I’m sure this will be a great help to me.
very clear and useful, thank you so much!!
So very helpful. Thanks!
Thank you so much🙏🙏 I wish you would upload more videos. You are the best
Thank you Oliver. I got a lot out of Painting Tress Part 1 and was really looking forward to this. I was not disappointed. In fact, my only complaint about your videos is that we have to wait so long in between new episodes. I love both your style of painting and your style of teaching. Thanks, again, and happy new year.
Thanks Mary. Unlike many producers of tutorials on UA-cam, I make my living from selling paintings through galleries and commissions as my primary source of income. It's my job, so it dictates the timing of the videos I make.
@@oliverpyle-ourlandscape4442 I didn't mean it as a criticism. I meant it as a compliment. I guess that is what makes your material so good. You don't force the material to meet a deadline, instead you produce when you have something to share. Anyway, I'm painting much better trees this week thanks to you. Take care.
@@MaryShelsby No worries Mary, and delighted that you find them helpful and they’re producing result with your trees. Happy painting!
Awesome as always. Learning so much.
Thank you for another informational, inspirational video! You are a vary talented presenter, with your calming demeanor and ability to provide clear instruction. I have learned a lot about color mixing from your videos, as well as the importance of thinking about warm and cool mixes. I love how you carved out the forward tree using the darker mix. I understand so much more about painting trees thanks to you. Do you ever paint snowy trees?
Yes Kathleen - they're a lot of fun to paint.
Always so well explained 👍🏼
I would so love to see how you do gum trees! Fabulous video.
Too bad that you think that you are not too good at making these tutorials because I think they are fantastic. I am a beginner and I find your videos very helpful. Keep up the good work. Jackie from Canada
