- This is my follow up ride review of the Scorpion EXO-R1 Air where I talk about my experience with the helmet from three days of on track riding at JenningsGP in early 2020.

I tried mine for first time last week , great helmet so far. Does have a premium feel to it.
Awesome review brother! I have had Zero issues with this helmet, definitely my go to top choice helmet mode. Was surprised when i got the helmet too with that metallic black sparkle paint. Matches my bike perfectly

Ordering the EXO R1 to replace my 5 year old R2000. I ride a naked bike and aerodynamics are important especially at freeway speeds and the occasional track day (@ Jennings LOL) Thanks for the comprehensive initial and riding review. Well done! Subscribed

Just ordered one with different graphic after checkin out your vid. I’ve been using RPHA 11 for last 6 months but I do feel pressure points on the side of my head. Arai CX fits me perfectly but I didn’t want to spend $$$.

I love my Scorpion R1! The aerodynamics are great as you’d expect from a Moto GP helmet. However my Shoei X14 has way better aerodynamics and venting. The Scorpion R1 is a bit more comfortable and a lot easier to take on and off. Thought I’d share a brief comparison since I hear a lot of people compare a lot of the Moto GP retail helmets. Wish HJC would release their MOTO GP helmet to the public. Looks amazing!
Thanks for sharing the comparison! I've heard that about the X14 and they obviously make a good product. I do wish HJC would release some of those helmets and replica schemes. They look awesome!
I haven't worn the Shoei but I do love the liner comfort and feel on the R1.
@@Ryhno411 I know! Ramirez has one of the coolest HJC graphics. I would pre order it instantly! I really wanted to get the R1 Quartararo scheme but couldn't find it anywhere for sale.
Ryan, thanks for your video review. I have the same helmet but in a different graphic. One thing I notice from the older version EXO-R2000 is that the new helmet is sized a little bit bigger. That my only issue with it, I thought the older one had a better fit for me in XL. Just my 2cents.
Hey Stanley, thanks for the feedback. I did notice a slight difference but I thought it was more due to the liner material. Having a different headshape could be part of it too. Appreciate your thoughts on both helmets! 👍👍
I spent Saturday breaking in my R1 air Bautista and also give it high marks. Break in was a non event for me as well. I hope to do back to back sessions and compare it to my Icon airframe pro because they have a lot of similarities imo. Solid lid and I've had a few. Subbed you.

Just ordered a scorpion exo r1 air bautista laguna seca version. This will be my first helmet since 1997. have not rode in a bike 20 plus years excited to get my v2 Ducati Pagani . Last bike was a 748 duc. Thank you for the review help me chose between OVER PRICEd Shoei..
Great choice! I'm really happy to hear my video was helpful! I haven't personally ridden the V2 but I have been able to ride the V4 and it was a blast. Enjoy your new V2 and R1 air!

thx for the review, highly considering getting this next, currently have the Shoei X14 Marquez 2016. i was able to see the Fabio one in person, just blown away with how light it was!! not sure if you've worn Shoei just wondering size, ill try on before i buy, but safe to assume a M in my Shoei will be same M for this one? cheers
I have worn the Shoei RF1200 but not the X14 and it did fit my head, it was a little snug on the sides and front. I was the same size (Large) as I was in my Scorpion. Overall the scorpion fit me better but I haven't tried an R1 on back to back with the latest Shoei yet. Thanks for the feedback! @@Ryhno411 thx man, im leaning towards the Fabio version (have a 2019 Monster Stealth) i think the colors would match up well, the other colors im considering are the Corpus R1 in either carbon look or the carbon with neon red one...... leaning towards #FQ20 one though ;) i wonder if the Corpus neon one would be same orange red thats on my Monster... thx again

Was leaning towards an x14. After watching a bunch of reviews on the scorpion, I'm having 2nd thoughts and seriously considering the r1. How do they compare? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Are you using it for street riding or track, both? I haven't tried the latest x14 but have tried the previous gen. The padding in the Shoei felt better than the R2000 but I really like the feel on the new R1. Price point and feature wise for your money I'd say R1. I've heard from others in regards to the X14 vs R1 that the Shoei may be a little noisier. I haven't tried one myself yet like I said though. Have you been able to try both on yet?

Moderately aggressive street riding and bit of sport touring, no track days planned. I've tried x14, felt ok, im thinking r1 would fit better cuz of airfit. I've had buncha hjcs, using 3rd gen rpha now and pretty happy w it. Unfortunately, not a big scorpion selection at stores near me, haven't tried 1 on. Did try and buy a covert x. I know it's completely different but I just wanted something different. Build quality, padding etc is great. Fig r1 would be better build quality
What about aerodynamics at high speeds as so as stability? Was there any issues?
I did not notice any issues at high speeds as well as stability. If I need to do a head check at speed things were fine. Even being on track tucked in at triple digit speeds, everything felt fine. I didn't experience any excessive buffeting instability.
How's the helmet holding up after months of use? Also, is the airflow good enough for really warm places like the Philippines?
It's held up well overall. I've taken the liner out to clean it a couple of times and done the normal cleaning of the surface of the helmet. All of the trim pieces, vents, etc. have been working without issue. We had a few race weekends where the temperatures got up to the 90F+ with humidity and overall I thought the helmet performed well compared to others I have used. The biggest improvement I would say is the feeling of the liner material when you get warm and start to sweat. It felt much more comfortable than the previous model R2000. For everyday riding I will say the R420 model flowed slightly better however, I still think the R1 Air has a better balance of airflow and wind noise. Hope this helps!
@@Ryhno411 I'm finalizing between the Scorpion R1, Bell Eliminator, and the Bell Race Star Flex DLX, I know very different helmets. I'm currently on an RSV4 but planning to shift to a Z900RS Cafe and want a helmet that would be good for both so I don't have to switch helmets anymore. Currently I'm using an LS2 that's making my neck hurt because i constantly need to keep looking up, tried a friend's RX7X yesterday and it had a much better view.
Would you recommend this helmet to someone who uses round/oval shaped helmets? Wrecked in my arai quantum x and looking for a replacement without breaking the bank, thanks
I have a round/oval shape and would say it's worth a try fitment wise. The brands that seem to fit my head shape in order of comfort and fit other than Scorpion are Arai, Shoei, HJC although I haven't tried on the latest of each brand recently. Helmets like AGV and Bell do not fit my particular headshape as they are too oval for reference. Hope this helps!

Hey man quick question.... Are the lines on the helmet red or Orange?? I noticed theres orange faded into the helmet but was wondering if the lines are red?
I have a Ktm Superduke R and finding an Orange helmet is harder than finding Waldo lol Thanks
They are more of a red/orange but I wouldn't put them close to the orange of a KTM unfortunately for you. I have a buddy who rocks the neon/red Corpus model of the R1 and it's a bit more orange than red however, not KTM orange. Wish I had better news for finding Waldo 😅
Lol ok cool thanks.. ive incorporated that hi viz yellow into my gear so its fine i think im just gonna get this helmet.. gonna have it airbrushed in back over the Bau 19 and put my initials and my number in a neon orange with black!! 🤷🏻♂️
Ryan N. Does the dark tint visor take the pinlock as well? Or only the regular clear visor?
I have latest r2000 bautista, that is with kuickwick 3 liner. I have tried the R1, liner wise they are same. but R1 runs half a size bigger. also it seems like an xl despite it was an m. r2000 has some disturbing booming sound due to rear exhaust wents, I cover them by some tape so it greatly reduced but helmet itself is not so quite. for instance arai has similar exhaust wents but covered by some wings to reduce noice. interestingly r2000 lets some air around my face and eyes despite all wents closed, don't know where it is coming. over all it is good but not great helmet. it is the best fitting helmet for my head but stability wise it was on average for advertised top racing helmet. there are some shaking going on at speeds. I didn't like the new R1 comparing to older r2000 as well because its bigger shell size but I may fit in size s so shell can be comparable to r2000 but chin area is elongated so it will be still bigger on the head. also horisontal wiev is limiten at he top, it is a good 1 cm less than the r2000 which is a big no no to me. what I like the most about this helmet is the liner. it is the most tender one on the skin, using it for 2 years and it is still like new. absorbs the sweat well. it feels just premium ( there is no shoei helmet feels or looks the same quality as KW3 to me), I think it is the only premium feeling thing on this helmet is this. and lastly one of the best feature is it comes with dark wisor aside. please share your toughts about R1 more, I am still considering it as most of the other brands does not fit me well
Thanks for the feedback and thoughts compared to the R1. I have an initial tabletop review video where I made some comparisons to the R2000. The liner in all of the R1's I've had compared to the R2000 is a different material and feels softer and absorbs the sweat better. I didn't experience any sizing differences. If need be you could maybe try a smaller liner and swap it out? Also, the airfit cheek pads could help dial things in as needed. I know some people have done that before. The R1 did weigh in lighter than the R2000 as well when I weighed them back to back. When I've had the R1 on at speed it seems to cut through the air better than the R2000 when I turn my head. Which is comfortable between agv corsa and this helmet sir ?
The AGV brand do not fit my head shape so I can't comment on them. I know others that love them though. The main knock against them I hear from friends who use them is the price but they r ally like them.
Is that the FIM -version of the helmet?
I'm not sure if the FIM officially reviewed each size but I know the FIM did test and pass the R1 in a size small for Fabio. I believe the other size tests are still pending.

If you mean the dark smoke visor shield it came with the helmet as well as a clear one.
Is the helmet Snell rated?
It's DOT and ECE 22.05 certified.
Would you recommend it for everyday use, commuting?
Hi JakubH sorry I did not see this comment. I think the helmet would be fine for commuting. The only thing I would say is the anti-fog properties seemed slightly better in the more street oriented R420. So if you're in a lot of stop and go traffic you might experience some fogging. Other than that the helmet might be a little bit louder due to the more sport orientation and subsequent venting qualities. I'm hoping to do a review with a headset sometime to compare and see. Hi Ryan from England the helmet is very well made scorpion premium helmet only thing I do not like, Ryan is changing the visors smoke visor is so hard to fit Ryan I did break the smoke visor had to buy new one not cheap Ryan 70 pounds in UK all the best Ryan for future gary
Thanks for the feedback Gary. I did notice there are a couple of extra detents on the sides of the shield to fit them which does make it a little more effort to change. 70 pounds is a steep price for a shield. That's almost double what it is here. Thanks again! Cheers 👍
