yen costs 0.67 Russian Ruble for example. doesn't mean yen is dead currency. it has nothing to do with local prices as costs and salary are adjusted with rise in price of ruble. also, prices for living space actually jumped a lot in Moscow.
An observation: don't have a dog in the fight. things there are tied in to sovereign debt to gdp, lack of credit( character, capacity, collateral), inability to raise capital ,overall credit rating, debt to low income, fabricated data ( gold standard) vs true aggregate data. Dutch disease syndrome to infinity wants and finite resources= 113 rubles to 1 usd.
I think we should separate in this case the micro from the macro perspectives. On the macro perspective concerning overall economy the Russian Ruble is pretty flat line and very low in value which is an indicator that Russian economy overall isn’t doing great. However, that doesn’t mean that the individual life experience is bad depending on the income to price ratio. Plus, foreigners in Russia have the ability to get paid in $ through content creation. In that context the low valuation is actually beneficial
Russia is export oriented economy with low dependance on imports(mostly electronics, clothes and luxury goods). So weak rubble is not a sign of Russian economy doing bad, actually it is opposite. That's done for several reasons - to lower end price for Russian products on world market(mostly that are developing countries, who cannot afford to pay much). To protect local producers from foreign competition on local market and to stimulate production in Russia. To maximize profits from exported goods. To keep money inside Russia, so big capital would invest in Russia. Strong currency is needed in countries, who depends on imports.
@ that is actually the issue Russian economy has low productivity because they cannot achieve increased prices on the world market. Hence, a low Ruble valuation which is a sign for economic issues because it means reduced salaries/wages and or increasing inflation inside Russia. That’s not an economically useful outcome and leads to a self propelling circle. Less productivity means global sales are made through low prices which in turn leads to less profit for Russian economy meaning the Ruble has to fall even more in value.
@@svensulzmann4282 No, that is not, couse consumers of Russian industry products cannot pay more. If Russia would strengthen the ruble, those consumers simply would not buy product, couse they don't have money. Western market is closed for Russian machinery. Second point that huge part of Russian export are resources, such as gas and oil, which are sold at market price, so strengthing the ruble would decrease ruble profits for Russian economy. Third point, salaries in Russia may seem low, but if you take cost of life, they are same as in west. Also don't forget, that Russian salaries are always shown after tax an insurance payments, while western are shown before such payments. Also 20% interest rate is only for banks and consumers credits, but there also exist different reduced rate, for example industry can gain 5%(3% if they buy produced in Russia machinery) rate credits, mortgage for families with 2+ children are 6% etc. Also there are different subsidiary programs for different fields of economy. Russian economy is not based exclusively on free market idas, where everything is defined by interest rate and private banking, but uses also some instruments of command economy, where state subsidies and priorities different sectors of economy. Current interest rate is done only to fix prices at estate market, couse lower rates almost doubled prices at estate in several years, couse people have money to afford credits and also inflation was completely eating credits. It is not seen obviously, but in 25 years Russian economy grew 4x times. Such rapid grow always would lead to inflation.

Yes, the ruble is sinking and is about to collapse. It has fallen more than 20% since the summer and is now at $/0.0096 from $/0.012. It is not the West that says this - but the entire world's financial market - in China you cannot exchange Rubles at the moment. If it goes below 0.0083, it is a complete collapse and the Ruble is not seen as convertible anywhere in the world. Why: Russia needs money - 33-40% of the State Budget goes to financing an unnecessary war - The state seeks and issues bonds to raise money in Russia - money that should be used for investments in the private sector - the state pays bad interest and COLLECTS. This is done at the same time as the interest rate has just been increased by the Central Bank to 21%. Who does something like this? The entire GDP increase + 75% is state spending on war - war economy. There is a decline in all business in Russia - it is only state waste that is increasing. I agree with most of what you shared. Been in Russia for just over 3 yrs. For your viewers, a quick helpful tip is on home and ptoperty sizes. The conversion is basically 10 times the square meter gives you the square footge we are used to in the USA. So, a 50 square meter home becomes 500 square feet. A 195 square meter home becomes 1950 square foot home. The actual conversion is around 10.7 or so, but a general reference is simple at 10 times. Dan, I just sent you an email...
My dear friend thank you for bringing that up, I appreciate what you mentioned the Americans don’t really get the squared meters stuff. I’ll have a look at the email thanks for watching

Dan, I wouldn't worry too much about the ups and downs of the exchange rate. Russia produces most of the things it needs and uses, so it doesn't matter from an internal point of view. From a trade point of view, it does matter, but it depends on how the Ruble is going against economies that are important to Russia. I'm sure Russia doesn't buy a lot of stuff from America. Now, with the new BRICS currency coming on line soon, the whole situation will change anyway, and the US dollar will not even be a concern. (OK, I wrote all of the above before I had finished the video, so you know all this anyway.) Those that are receiving/bringing monies FROM the US will stand to benefit as they will receive a higher number of Rubles for their US dollar. You disappeared in the kitchen for a tick, but you're back. Your buffering took a hit by the looks of it. The living cost is very cheap but if too many people come that will go up, and the locals will be pissed off. I'm a trades person. If I was younger, I would definitely consider moving there. Even with a pension I would worry about my medical needs as I have several, and wouldn't want to be burdening their system, so I think retiring would be out. As an Australian the price of beer is BRILLIANT, pity I gave up drinking.
The value of a currency compared to a different one is meaningless in the context of massive financial sanctions and war; the reason for this is that governments are artificially preventing people from trading the ruble for US dollars, therefor making it worthless for buying US dollars. The harder it is to trade a ruble for US dollars, the lower its value in US dollars will be, until it is fully decoupled and will literally be worth 0 US dollars. If you are buying something in rubles, then this does not matter. If you are buying imports, this does matter, because people are less likely to want a currency they cannot trade for another. Considering how dominant the US economy still is, this does have a net effect on the value of a ruble when purchasing imports, especially imports from the US or Europe. When purchasing imports from ally nations, this effect is WAY less of an issue, such as BRICS. The country that has the biggest positive effect on the ruble in this context is China. This is why China is such an important economic ally for Russia, and why China is actually dangerous for Russia in the long term. If China decides to strong arm Russia, it could have negative impacts on the Russian people. I've always maintained that why while China is an important ally for Russia, their lack of freedom compared to Russia's more individualistic culture is not ultimately a positive thing.
@@frodeeriksen7195 If you look at the long term price changes marked at big changes in sanctions, NOT just the changes over a few months, the ruble only weakens by about 5% compared to the rupee and yuan when comparing post-2014 long term trends, while the US dollar is on the order of 20%. So the short term devaluation of 28% in all currencies is not natural, and not likely to stick around. Russia dealt with a far worse short term devaluation between February and April 2022, and Russian's did just fine.

Hi Daniel Im retired know and would like to by a house in your area Irkutsk. and live there. What is the process about paper work for residence ? Regards
Starting from September 1, 2024, foreigners who support traditional Russian spiritual and moral values can obtain a temporary residence permit (RVP) without a quota and a certificate of knowledge of the Russian language, history and laws of Russia. That is, you do not need to apply to the quota commission for approval of the RVP and take an exam in the Russian language. Adherents of Russian moral ideals skip these stages. For reference: A temporary residence permit is the first step on the path to citizenship. The RVP is issued for three years. But after 8 months, you can apply for a residence permit (residence permit). Read more here → How to get a residence permit of the Russian Federation in 2024 in Moscow: step-by-step instructions. After five years of residence on a residence permit, a foreigner applies for Russian citizenship. Step 1. Apply to the Russian consulate for a visa. Attention: a private visa is issued for three months. Step 2. Collect a package of documents upon arrival. You will need: Passport. Migration card. Registration. A special visa. Certificate of no criminal record + apostille Birth certificate (if the surname was changed) + apostille Marriage certificate (if the surname was changed) + apostille Divorce certificate (if the surname was changed) + apostille Photos 3.5x4.5 are matte, colored. It is better to coordinate the package of documents in more detail with a lawyer All documents in a foreign language are translated into Russian and notarized in the Russian Federation. Step 3. Submit documents for a PRTR without taking into account the quota to the territorial department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the place of registration. Those who live in Moscow should contact the MMC in Sakharovo at the address: Moscow, 64th km of Varshavskoye highway, Voronovskoye settlement, household 1, building 47. You can get there by bus MC1 from the Lesoparkovaya metro station or MC2 from the Prokshino metro station. Let's summarize Since September 1, 2024, citizens of foreign countries where LGBT, transgender, Satanism and other "abnormal" values flourish receive the RF RVP in a simplified manner: without a quota and an exam in the Russian language. There are 47 States on the list. These are the majority of unfriendly European countries + the USA, Canada, Japan. To move, you need a special visa, which is issued at the Russian consulate. A foreigner must receive a RVP in Russia in three months.

I was only covering the trend of the ruble my friend, thats a totally different thign that can be mentioned for sure :D
Ruble and Russian economy is done. Only getting worse. Ruble’s course to yuan is identifical with USD.
Late comment on the first part of the stream. First, congrats on your new job Professor. Also you're fast becoming the go to UA-cam channel for moving to and living in Russia. Maybe it's your life story and straightforward way of talking and explaining how not to get "punched in the face" by Russia.
Thanks a lot my friend

(OK, I wrote all of the above before I had finished the video, so you know all this anyway.)
Those that are receiving/bringing monies FROM the US will stand to benefit as they will receive a higher number of Rubles for their US dollar.

New video is out 👍🏻
Not only usd, but most larger valutas. Like Yuan, Rupee an euro
All I know is the uk has gone to shit, I want out.

Im retired know and would like to by a house in your area Irkutsk. and live there.
What is the process about paper work for residence ?
Regards
Join our forums brother linked there it’s quite simple, I can help with everything information and how tos🤝🏻
You will need:
Passport.
Migration card.
Registration.
A special visa.
Certificate of no criminal record + apostille
Birth certificate (if the surname was changed) + apostille
Marriage certificate (if the surname was changed) + apostille
Divorce certificate (if the surname was changed) + apostille
Photos 3.5x4.5 are matte, colored.
It is better to coordinate the package of documents in more detail with a lawyer
All documents in a foreign language are translated into Russian and notarized in the Russian Federation.
Let's summarize
Since September 1, 2024, citizens of foreign countries where LGBT, transgender, Satanism and other "abnormal" values flourish receive the RF RVP in a simplified manner: without a quota and an exam in the Russian language.
There are 47 States on the list. These are the majority of unfriendly European countries + the USA, Canada, Japan.
To move, you need a special visa, which is issued at the Russian consulate.
A foreigner must receive a RVP in Russia in three months.

"Its not crashing according to people to live here"... Yes it is not affecting the Russian stealing butter from stores because the prices of Butter, some meats, and onions are about 25% more expensive than a year ago, according to official data. Some supermarkets have taken to keeping butter in locked cabinets. The people who live their especially in rural areas where their pensions (Avg. $233 U.S. dollars per month ) don't cover basic needs like medicine, food and housing.. He is right. Now is the best time to invest in Ruble and buy a house/apartment while it's still cheap. Russian government is lowering ruble for a reason and that reason is to attract investors. I have no doubt Russian economy in the next 5 years will only increase. Europe will still continue to buy Russian gas and resources because they simply have no other places to buy resources at the price Russia offers, is this the reason European economy was so good. Now its very bad and getting worse.
