DO you know when they will come out with the one sided dual shifter? Thanks. It will be interesting to see how durable this is over the long haul, and how resistant it is to oil leak. Thanks.
interesting system, great to hear a a right hand shifter with two triggers will come. that would be great, but I wonder if they plan on left hand shifter too as some people don't have a working right hand, so far only system those people can use is Sram twist shifter, or a pinion gear box with twist shifter.
@@EMTBVideos not something I need, but I know that there are some people who needs it. I will stay up to date on this system, as I think eliminating the rear derailleur is a good idea.
I ride an emtb with 2500 watt bafang ultra, which ruins my chain, derailleur and sprockets. Do you think it can handle such power? Do i understand correctly that shifting under power is harder the more power the motor gives?
Can the Kindernay XIV be actuated by a CABLE SHIFTER, like the Rohloff TWIST-SHIFTER? Do you need a FRAME SPLITTER to use this Kindernay with the Gates BELT DRIVE?
It's been a while since I talked to Kindernay, so they might have come up with new ideas. But as far as I know, cable actuation isn't possible. The hydraulic oil design will push the actuator to change gears. I've got no idea if that can be worked around with some kind of hack. But I guess one would still need 2 cables for the shifter. Unless you fit it to a bikes without chainstays, like an Orange, Forestal, etc, you need a chainstay that can be split.
It's $500 cheaper which should cause Rohloff to consider dropping its price a little. Also, the ability to slide this in and out of the frame is a HUGE benefit. You can use it on several different bikes without having to buy multiple units.
@@fofopads4450 Indeed you can sweep different wheels+ the hydraulic shifting is smooth. However, internally this gear hub is totally different from Rohloff. Only thing which is a bit similar, is the 2nd / last planetary gear set stage. Where the sun gear is not fixed but the ring gear. The shifting action seems to be accomplished by a totally new spring ball mechanism! Never saw something like that in an IHG
@@tonyd.3430 You seem to be experienced with the Kindernay. They are still testing for efficiency numbers, but how does it feel in the real world unassisted compared to a Rohloff?
@@philhunt1442 I don't see any differences in drag between the Kindernay and Rohloff nor I feel that a normal derailleur is more efficient. This is also because the tyres, the condition of the roade, the air drag are bigger factors in my opinion.
I assume it will. The 1120 has a 148x12 rear axle that is supported by Kindernay. The challenge is routing the two hoses from the shifter to the hub. I'm sure it can be done, but it may or may not look very neat and tidy.
Such an exciting time for bicycle development, it will be 10 years before I buy an ebike as I wait for all the technology to go to production.
Excellent review. Thanks
He's all over the road !
One more question. Have you tried the Rohloff before? If you have, I wonder how this compares in feel.

You developed the Rohloff-Speedhub again, Congratulations :)

Absolutely not a rolhoff, this is swappable

How does the Kindernay XIV compare to the Rohloff 14 speed hub?
@Will Swift Are they BOTH the same QUALITY?
What about the internal drag / energy looses due to internal friction? Could you feel anything? Or is it es efficient as a derrailieuer system?
Can you say anything about the sound? Is it a noisy hub when you're coasting?
The cage system is to weak for a touring bicycle and the spoke lugs break. After my 2nd cage, i have gone back to a traditional drive train
How does it compare to Rohloff?
What weighs more this or Rohloff?
Will this system work on Trek 1120

Its shit for only one reason for me..needs 36 spokes not 28
Belt compatible?
Yeah, it should be. I couldn't find anything about it on their website. You could contact them and ask to make sure.
interesting !
but heavy and expensive yet
Audio is barely audible.
Lack of drum brake suck for commuting
