I feel like the slide changes have affected aggressive frames the most, our we just notice it more on aggressives cause we use them the most. The nerf to pellet spread during the slide can get you killed more often now, especially if done in the wrong scenario. From watching this gameplay, shotguns are still viable in the right hands, but when used to push the boundary from the weapon being "in a good spot" versus "being broken" thats where the slide nerf comes in to keep the weapon in line. Referencing the engagement in the video where you slid into the titan at 2:16 and another engagement somewhere in the video, those ended up in bad shotty damage for you because you were sliding into someone (proc'ing the 1.5x increase in pellet spread). Every other engagement in the video were all easy one bangers, even some during the slide animation. I dont really think there are any "niche" shottys now and more about who made the better play during a gunfight which I believe is an excellent change for a game like Destiny having such a niche way of being successful. Sorry for the TL:DR. Hope everything is good or is getting better in both you and your families' lives. Been watching you since the D1 days when you were giving TrueVanguard and KJHovey the work on stream! All love!
i feel like that’s bc a lot are using weapons that aren’t shotguns. so sometimes it’s not necessarily camping (even tho some do) but them playing their loadout. like if you’re running a sniper hand cannon you have no reason to be up in someone’s face 24/7
@@quentinb734 I have one with full choke, accurized, QuickDraw, and thresh with a range masterwork and the thing is great. Just wish I had opening shot
ya know, if they had good footstep audio they could make aggressive frames a lil stronger without it feeling cheap. But in the sandbox currently it always feels weird to me when players run up full speed with a shotty and there is little to no audio with it. So my issue isn't even with shotties directly..its that some of the plays with shotties wouldnt go down the same with proper footstep audio.
Surplus/opening shot Astral Horizon was hitting pretty good in IB today. Even sliding i was still hitting shots. Just had to follow up with a melee more than i did before.
yea I used felwinters all season since the Quickdraw nerf no problem. But this season I had to switch to precision frames and lightweights. my favorite 3 are the new stasis primary Quickdraw opening shot. cqc Quickdraw snap. my favorite shotgun this season riiswalker with surplus iron reach. all with fullchoke or barrel shroud and range/ handling MW
I got a 4/5 rolled fractythst. And i still think felwinters is better. Just due to the fact of pellet spread from sliding now. Felwinters bullets always have tight spread, jus my observation so far tho
Aggressive frames just got hit the hardest. They increased the pellet spread, and on sliding even more spread so now they're just bad. Lightweight Riiswalker and Precision Fractethyst shotguns seem to be the best shotguns aside from slug shotguns right now. There are some really good perks on the new Fractethyst shotgun. Harmony is really good, I wanna try Adagio to see if it's any good.
I've got a Sudden Death with full choke/threat detector/snapshot and it's the best feeling shotgun I've used since the season started, it's phenomenal.
riiwalker with iron reach has a 10.5 meter 2 tap. along with the lightweight frame for increased agility while strafing. I believe lightweight frames also have a tighter base spread along with more pellets per shot. to me riis is better while sliding and for cleaning up primed targets then any other shotgun I have. ( still want to test timelost found verdict ) I'd like to get your opinion on the Cartesian Coordnate fusion. I think it has some potential 🤔
I think I enjoying this season meta the most overall. Shotguns are still viable but there's a much variety to choose. SMG are definitely meta, Autos are good, Hand cannons like you said is always to be the king, Fusions aren't that bad anymore, and so fort and so on. Let's see what comes in the next trials.
I hate the fact that because of Felwinter’s mistakes (meta and annoyance), all other pellet shottys are horrible. I didn’t hate pellet shotguns, I hate how consistent felwinters was for how hard and far it hit compared to other shottys
the only one that feels consistent to me in found verdict with opening shot. The handling is down but you run warlock with ophidians it feels pretty good.
Never liked rifled barrel. Especially now taking away so much handling. Full Choke or Barrel Shroud might make it feel better for you. I've been really liking my fractalcyte shotgun (stasis kinetic shotgun) with barrel shroud light Mag quickdraw opening shot. (It is a precision frame like DRB)
Riiswalker feels like it's gonna be the meta in my eyes. I have a roll that feels really strong, but could be slightly better. I've been rocking it this past week and nabbed about 500 kills with it, it feels awesome. I use it over felwinters or astral any day of the week
You I've noticed you NEED opening shot or full choke for a shotgun to feel viable. The roll is especially important on high impacts. Tbh found verdict with its long barrel feels good but that's the exception not the rule.
Wish Try out my found verdict (timelost) with full choke/riflesd, assault mag, surplus, opening shot and range MW. Kills half a meter further felwinters. And feels sooooo good with handling. DM me if you wanna
Yes the meta has changed rapid fire fusions smgs and ar are running the show. As far as shotguns it’s lightweight which is riisewalker and precision and failwinters just cause of shot package that’s on it.
Nah what you're experiencing is astral being dog water lol, unless it has opening shot it's always felt inconsistent. I'd try found verdict out in the energy slot before u count aggressives out, as that with surplus + opening shot is my favorite energy shotty. In the primary slot riiswalker (lightweight, titan in the video killed u with it a couple times) with surplus/QuickDraw + iron reach feels super consistent, and that new fractethyst precision shotty should be good too with QuickDraw opening shot.
outside of slugs or absolute god roll shotties i’d say they pretty much are. i think the reason why aggressives don’t feel good anymore is because instant swap has been nerfed. also, targeting/dexterity mods feel like they hit a cap imo. i think shotties still work if you want to close in on a target/ape them. but when it comes to swapping quickly to shut a close range player down, they just don’t work.
I think shotguns are at a point where u need to combo it with something else kinda like fighting loin u have to Combo a Grenade or primary shots u can’t just sprint around and blast people anymore which I think is better
Yes bro, I'm agreeing with you on how shotguns feel but the point of a shotgun fits great into the feel of the game but they feel like junk coming from playing the game in any other season. Precisions are the top 1hk from what I'm seeing
I agree 100% shotguns do not feel good anymore. I would use duality/ chaperone or something else. I'm really enjoying null composure though it slaps but it's just not a shotgun
*reads the title* thats cap, i just lost a game and the top player was an xbox guy in a steam lobby running no back up plans and felwinters. I dont think he had a primary. he dropped 47 kills and I only got 25.
I know this is a hot, hot take... but I'm glad they're dead in all but the best players' hands. Sorry, not sorry. I didn't hate them, but they needed to be reigned in.
I can honestly say with the release of duality, reissued first in, last out, and then there's chap. Slug shotguns are pretty consistent and good. I've done some crazy shit with my loadout and getting kills with slugs shotguns that normal one's just can't reach. I have many clips to back it up. My loadout is currently in 6v6 and rumble is Well of radiance Tigerspite Duality Threaded needle And it's done me great 👍
Since the shotty and range nerf, shotties that shoot faster and have a nice two tap range since OHK range was reduced. So glad to see this nerf cause it doesn't really nerf shotties that much but still feels good in its intended range. Lightweights are currently the meta due to the spring speed and easy two taps. Aggresives are still good but won't map people like before. We aren't in a one shot kill shotty meta anymore like before imo
chaperone is a good pic, as its a slug youre gonna be baiting more instead of being the one to slide into the engagement, especially on controller chap sticks to heads
I slide in with chap and duality a lot and I’m on controller. I do play hunter so if I need to I can dodge back behind me but you can def be aggro with slugs
@@tyler77971 I agree but getting in someone's face with a slug when they're using an agressive or precision, ain't a good idea. Hitting the headshot that upclose is unlikely where all they have to do is hit you in the chest

finally someone does this on hunter. everyone else out here makin knockout reviews lol
True😂💯
I feel like people are more campy and stack together...like turret guardian... it is imposible to rush with shotgun this season
i feel like that’s bc a lot are using weapons that aren’t shotguns. so sometimes it’s not necessarily camping (even tho some do) but them playing their loadout. like if you’re running a sniper hand cannon you have no reason to be up in someone’s face 24/7
Riiswalker with iron reach and assault mag for quick two taps. Most consistent shotgun I’ve used in this meta. Hard to get though.
True on both aspects. I'm currently on a strong grind for it. #RNGEESUS
I prefer that new stasis shotgun from the seasonal activity with opening shot it 1 taps 90% of the time
They don't feel the same bc they nerfed the spread on them specifically
Felwinters was the most consistent shotty before shotties got nerfed
Faxxx got one the other day and it maps and also he can just use other types of shotguns but they are not useless smh
fractethyst with quickdraw, opening shot, accurized, full choke, handling masterwork.
How is it performing in crucible?
@@quentinb734 I have one with full choke, accurized, QuickDraw, and thresh with a range masterwork and the thing is great. Just wish I had opening shot
Shotguns right now are whiffing as often as my 5/5 godroll Xenoclast was before nerfs. So I think we can rule that one out.

Not saying those should bring back Invective but what are y’all thoughts on it?
We just had an ammo economy nerf and I think the last thing we need is a shotgun with infinite ammo

Chaperone?
I’ve been using a lot of riiswalker and retold tale this season both are consistent for me, god rolls with full choke though.
don’t have a god roll riiswalker but i love quickdraw

This comment is facts
Dust rock was meta because of NF, at least on console. For pc was ace + mindbender
Always appreciate the input
I had to switch to precision frames that shoots pellets, and even those are hella inconsistent but they feel good,

i feel like lightweight and precision are just better rn since you have to 2 tap more often
I have been running the Duality on xbox and I am enjoying it. Idk if its in the new meta or anything but it works for me

Try threat detecter on aggressive they feel good it procs at around 10 meters so still shotty range and it pulls out really really fast
I go back and forth between riiswalker and the new seasonal shotty. Aggressives don’t cut it anymore for me.
Full choke also feels like a must have for consistency.
A Sudden death for me has been more consistent than fell winter
Try dragon shadow if you want instant swap like quickdraw in the old days! Golden tip, seriously
Spread pellet is not as good now, slugs the way to go.
I normally snipe, but when I use my riis with fc, acc, eye of the storm, iron reach, range mw it feels real tight
You need to not slide as much especially when not using full choke
You I've noticed you NEED opening shot or full choke for a shotgun to feel viable.
