There was an article a while ago where this reporter went around asking Harvard students what the capital of Canada was and the only student who got it right was Canadian.

As an Albertan, I can recall the winter of 2013/2014, and yeah it was -40 with windchill temps down to the -50s. In this video was released, I had actually just gotten back home several days prior, from a vacation down in Panama for two weeks. It was a 70° difference in temperature change, from +35° to -35°C. Pretty freaking cold, eh?

I am also from Alberta, and not all of us have the accent that I'm assuming you're referring to. I find that it's usually the more rough small-town people who have the accent. I am from a small town where many people speak with the "Alberta accent", but somehow my family didn't develop it. lol

So, basically, Americans and Canadians have senses of humor (Woo for North Americans!), and the rest of the world likes to seriously think that the U.S. is pretty much all obese, lazy, stupid, and arrogant.
Well, considering we're the world's #1 superpower economically and militarily and actually provide an obscene amount of defense for our allies in Europe and Asia enabling them to focus on other concerns... Okay. Something is working for us.
(We do tend to be kind of arrogant though, but what country isn't? Like the Canadians. They actually think they are cool. Silly Canadians. They're obviously just cold.)

Speaking for the rest of the world, yes we do think Americans are stupid, obese and arrogant - but we also see Canada as America's little bitch and Canadians are quite happy to be lobbed into that category as long as they are seen to be in the same light as Americans.
To put it simply, Canada is in an abusive relationship with America but it really loves America so it's prepared to put up with its shit. Canada's mother (Britain) and half sister (Australia) are not happy with this but Canada is a stubborn fucker. I think it gets if from it's step father (France).

Nah, it's always there no matter what. What they're looking for when the shopkeepers hold the bill up to a light is for the plastic strip at the bottom of it. The security strip can only be seen when held up to a light.
I doubt one dollar bills get counterfeited often.

I don't know this, but I'm guessing the design of the dollar bill has been the same for years, and when they were first printed in the way you see them today, they probably didn't have those plastic strips, so they needed details in the print to avoid counterfeiting. And beetles1964, you raise a good point.

I'd love to visit Canada one day. I've always liked Canada. I watch a guy on youtube who does urban exploration in Canada. He does a lot of exploring around Ontario and other places. His channel is called Daadeeoh.
