Morbid Angel's legendary debut album "Altars of Madness" turns 33 years old the day of the release of this video. It was a lot of fun learning these riffs. It was more difficult than what I expected, specially because of all those sliding chord riffs. In the end, I'm really happy with how this video turned out.
Mix and master done by myself too.
I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE MUSIC. Please support the band in any way you can. (Also, someone get me an Altars' shirt)

And yes, I recreated the reversed intro myself too.
Amazing!
I always feel myself a little guilty when I listen to this record. Headbanging to it for the 100000th time instead of discovering something new.
There’s some classics you just can’t beat
It's like a sore dick. You just can't beat it.
Probably my favorite death metal album, perfect blend of thrash/death/black metal, its just a perfect record.
It’s up there for me
Maze of Torment intro, the best riff on that album
Big classic Heavy Metal influences in that one.
Fun fact: the original album was made with exactly the same setup. But Neural DSP plugins and EZdrummer weren't really popular in the late 80s, so they hid this fact. But JoJo discovered this information and gave the album some kind of tribute.
I’m always up to recreating the musicians’ weird and unorthodox methods of recording.
dude!!! holy shit...this is superb!!! im a 52 yr old metal rhythm dude...got to college...my soon to be a best friend spun me on to this...at first was like, whats up w the vox??? then like a lite bulb, it went off...their early riffs shaped the way i play along with voivod and metallica...just subbed my brother, cheers!!!
Thank you so much man! That’s an awesome story too!
Very rarely, if at all, do I see a video dedicated to death metal made this well. Amazing tone and playing mate
Thank you so much man! And nice profile pic of Dark Ruler Ha Des.
shit man, that album is as old is myself! still my "go to" Morbid Angel Album, it is timeless. Ever thought of a Pungent Stench Riff journey? Austrian Death metal Legends next to Belphegor
I haven’t thought about doing it, but I’ve had a couple ppl ask me to. I might do it in the future, for now I have quite a bit on my plate.
Trey is one of the best metal guitarists. Great job, this was very enjoyable to watch.
Thanks man. And yes, Trey is one of a kind.
your videos always make me want to practice guitar, thanks dude.
No no, thank YOU for watching and supporting the channel!
Uncontrollable, instantaneous headbanging!!! It is not possible to not headbang!!! Another great video!
Thank you so much! And yes, I headbang to it myself.
God DAMN dude! Yeah, lots of sliding power chords. Old school. Just watching you play Trey riffs, whew, his shit is something. Makes Cambodia look like Kansas. Nicely done. Also! I recommend to everybody the Earache Full Dynamic Range (FDR) releases of Altars and other Morbid Angel - audiophile death metal! They are very high quality all around.
Thank you so much man! I actually did listen to the FDR version to figure these songs out.
That was sick! 🤘 Hail morbid! Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thanks man!
Dude your a BEAST!
Hey thank you so much man!
Altars of Madness, an undeniable goat album. Awesome cover man!
Btw did you like create the tone on your own in fns or is it a preset?
Thank you so much man! No, I made it, with my own IRs and all.
Ayo Im glad the algorithm Spit me towards your Chanel; great metal! Keep killing it ima keep listening
Hey thank you so much man!
@@jojoplaysmusic yea bro I’m about a couple videos in but they’re all basic bands that I listen too. Thanks for the content it’s awesome! Keep it up!
Great album and an even better guitarist, both u and trey
Thank you so much man! It really means a lot that you put me up with Trey.
Tremendo canal . Ojala crezca muchisimo . Saludos de Uruguay 😎
Muchas gracias amigo! Un saludo!
You nailed it dude, it was one of the more difficult albums to learn just in riffs terms to me, solos are other story. I admire you so much, keep your good job as always. 🤘🏻🔥
Hey thank you so much man! There’s an ungodly amount of sliding in these riffs.
Awesome Medley!
Sick young man!
Finally, I wait for it a lot of our!! really good work!!! keep it brutal!!... or more brutal!!!
Thank you so much man! Share it with the people.
Great work brou! Altars is a masterpiece!
Thanks man! It is!
02:06 my #1 riffs from Altars Of Madness
That's actually mine too!
Killer covers dude
Thanks man! I appreciate it.
Death Metal!!!
I know right?!
awesome you deserve 500 K followers
Any help you can give me, sharing, shoutouts, word of mouth, it all helps.
To me Altar of Madness is on the same level as Regin of Blood. I think MA never made anything better than this. It's just excellent.
To say the never did anything better is kinda weird. They never did exactly the same thing, so I guess you could say every album had its own flavor.
@@jojoplaysmusic What I meant is simply that this is MA's best album.
@@magister007 that we might agree on
For me it's Covenant. I got into MA late (after seeing them in 2006), first Blessed, then Covenant, then this. I listen more to this and Covenant. Not unrelated, both feature least processing (midi sampling) of Pete's drums.
me thinks "blessed..." is my fave, but its pretty damn close!!! cheers all!!!
This is among the most kickiest, assiest, kickass, that has ever kicked ass! 🤘😈
I dont think anyone has an Entombed riffs vid yet 👀👀👀
Yeah, what about it?
So do you get copyright strikes on your videos? If not how are you getting around them. Also, really great mixing and tones man.
Thanks! I think it’s because I’m using my own recordings that I don’t get strikes, but I’ve had a couple of claims here and there.
I'm convinced that MA was the fastest band of the 80's. Like Slayer sounds slow compared to this
Also I like the tone, it sounds way more thrash than the original. Interesting to hear these riffs in a different way.
I might have to agree. And thanks! I went out of my way to make a tone that sounds appropriate for the time but right to my ears.
@@jojoplaysmusic awesome! I'd love a similar video for Sacramentums Far Away From The Sun, If you ever get a chance. Every single song on that album has amazing riffs just like Alters. Would make an amazing medley I'm sure.
@@henrywalton5967 I was just listening to that album right now.
@@jojoplaysmusic it was meant to be then
@@henrywalton5967 perhaps
Favorite album of all time, subbed🤘 if u need someone to play the solos on this album on ur channel just hmu😂
Thanks! We’ll see about that heje
Awesome, but Suffocation is one of their best songs; my band, morgAtory, wrote a song ( back when we were 15) that was called " The Ivory Tomb " that was influenced by Suffocation. I subscribed btw
Aaaa that’s sick man! It is indeed a banger.
Fuck yeah man 😎
😼🤘
Heaviest album of all time
you are the best!

@@jojoplaysmusic Appreciation for that *knawledge*
Really great guitar tone, tbh I like it better than the actual album’s tone
I was just think the same thing hehe
Nah. Really cool tone but the almighty oroginal version is intouchable.
You can't even know right what note Trey is playing, i think it's because the rat, it's a fuzzy pedal. And i am a guy who can hear Nile guitars hahaha
@@detts5082 early Nile’s tone is suuuuper scooped
@@jojoplaysmusic through cheap speakers, Blackseeds of Vengenace it's basically a drum and voice album
This is what drinking coffee sounds like.🔥

GHOULS ATTACK THE CHURCH
Legendary opening line.
that was awesome as fuck, Satan would be proud, If he existed of course....
they really need to go back and re-record all the 90s death metal albums. some of them are so good but sound like pure shit
Yeah I bet that slimy tone they developed would sound awesome with better production.
