Pulwama A Hotbed of Dairy Farming - Meet Showkat an Entrepreneur

Showkat Hussain Mir runs a successful dairy unit with 20 cows at Pahoo village, located at a distance of six kilometers from Pulwama. Mir used to work at a private school earlier. After his resignation from the job he set-up a dairy unit in his village. His business has been booming since then. His dairy farm produces around 200 liters of milk every day and is being supplied locally into markets. Showkat is one of the many examples of a successful entrepreneur who despite all odds and regular shutdown in Kashmir has been successful with his determination and dedication. His dairy farm has employed many locals and is generating opportunities for many in the area.
With 8.5 lakh liters of milk supplied to over 40 collection centers daily, South Kashmir's Pulwama district is the leading milk producer in J&K. Last year, official figures show Pulwama produced 31 crore liters of milk, which was supplied across J&K, and in 2017-18, it produced 28.04 crore liters. Every day, 8.5 lakh liters of milk are produced in Pulwama. The abundance motivated entrepreneurs to set up processing units and the district has five big milk plants come up in 12 years.
