I've been listening to Zeppelin for over 50 years now. Many of their songs are favorites of mine. In '73 it was Stairway to Heaven, then in ' 75 I bought Physical Graffiti and heard this song. Immediate favorite and has been since. Robert Plant was asked what his favorite song was and the answer was this one. As I understand this, Robert said it was written after a trip to Morocco.
I first heard Led Zeppelin when I was 12 in 1972. This song when I was 15. Both life altering experiences. I was a young musician taking lessons since 1965. What a time to grow up in. Just the musical changes through the 1960's and 1970's. It all happened so fast, it was impossible to keep up. So much creativity, originality, and heart before big biz took over by the end of the 90's when the music died. I still haven't listened to all the music that I'd like to hear from those decades, there's so much good stuff.
That's so true✌️. Good new music is so hard to come by nowadays. You have to really go searching for it. That's why I'm on this journey. I know there's so much good music from back then that I haven't heard👍🎵✌️
Just keeps fitting better and better doesn't it? This one live 1979 at knebworth!!! Live all those string sounds are played by JPJ on the keys! Gotta watch it!!
Zeppelin is extremely diverse. They did many types of music and they did them all very well. They loved to blend that other type of music into a rock format and create something new. This is probably their second most popular song. They had only been around 6 years when they made this but it is one of their later ones. I think it's their best album. Puff Daddy did a remake of this song with Jimmy Page called "Come with me" on the Godzilla Sound Track.
Certainly changed my life as a teenager back in the 70,s . I have diversified and expanded thru the decades but Zeppelin are Zeppelin and my number one til I die ..👍👌❤️
My absolute favorite version of this song is from their 2007 live Celebration Day Concert held in London's O2 Arena. The late John Bonham's son, Jason, fills in for his dad at drums and kills it! You really need to watch/listen to it!
Epic track. You're right, it has been used in Iron Man, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Godzilla. P Diddy also sampled the riff/hook for one of his tunes. I think it's a different journey to react to each track in albums chronologically, its also richer to see tracks played live as they were SO amazing live. I look forward to following your journey! 🎉
Thank You. Much Appreciated. Ah, you're right! When Diddy was Puff Daddy. It was from a movie soundtrack or something? I was was well into hip-hop/rap and RnB during the mid to late 90's early 2000's👍
Saw them perform this song live back in May of 1977. The concert was my 18th birthday present from my then boyfriend. Kashmir is definitely one of those timeless songs, sung then and 30 years later from their Celebration concert.
Even though it's a relatively simple riff it's probably the most iconic and reconisable intro of any rock song ever. This song was how I first discovered the band decades ago in grade school and couldn't believe what I was hearing and was completely blown away by it..
You should watch the "Celebration Day" video of this song. If you really want to understand just how great these guys are, watching them rip this up when they are 70 years old (minus Bonzo😪) makes that clear. Best rock band ever!
Jimmy came up with that heavy guitar riff and John Bonham joined him with the drums! Jimmy and John were the two top credits for this song! Later Robert Plant came up with the lyrics when zeppelin was traveling a long lonely road through the Moroccan desert
In my junior year of high school when Physical Grafitti was released. "Another great song from the best band ever!" After experiencing LZ's first album, there was nothing like the anticipation of their next album, and then the one after that and so on and so on. I remember excactly where I was when I heard of Bonzo's passing. It was devastating.
