I've tried this several times, but the string is too long for me to be able to hold it like that! I have the length done properly, but my legs are just super long compared to the rest of my body. Is there any way to make this work or should I just use another wind-up method?
I was having issues doing this with my newer yoyo, but then did a double-loop when putting the string on and now it works perfect, loooove it! BTW, the double-loop is explained in another video titled "how to put a string on a yoyo and adjust it for play" at about 3 minutes in.
I would recommend the Luminator if you are interested in learning how to yoyo. It may be a good idea to consider the Luminator Advanced Kit as well because it comes with everything you need to keep the yoyo working great including extra string, weight rings that will help it spin longer, and lube which will keep it playing perfectly. Hope this helps!
yotricksthis is just not working. On my fifth attempt it hit my nose and i got a bloody nose:(could you explain it abit mire of how the bottom hand is supposed to roll to roll the yoyo up?
I love this trick and it looks amazing, even thought it was a PITA to learn! One thing not mentioned in the video that helped my success rate tremendously was to flick the yoyo upward as I spun it.
If you're new to yoyoing and are looking for the best yoyo to get you started, we recommend the Fizz yoyo: yoyotricks.com/shop/yoyo-store/yoyo-brands/yotricks/fizz-yoyo/
+Angel Pardo The Whip yoyo is unresponsive, so you will need to perform a bind to get this trick to work. We show how to do this at the end of our bind video. ua-cam.com/video/R0wnN4blxII/v-deo.html
That is because butterfly yoyos cannot sleep very long, unless you have a very powerful throw. Even with a powerful throw it is difficult to get them to sleep more than 5 seconds.
The DV888 is a responsive yoyo, and it is much better than the butterfly. If you are interested in unresponsive play you can get the DV888 Unresponsive Pack from us and that includes the yoyo setup for responsive play, and everything else you need to set it up for unresponsive play as well so you can switch whenever you like. yoyotricks.com/yoyo-store/yoyofactory/dv888-yoyo-unresponsive-pro-pack/
+Hugo Angwald That will happen if you are throwing your yoyo crooked, or if you are not throwing hard enough. You may also be holding the yoyo in your hand backwards. In our video where we teach the sleeper we show how to hold the yoyo. ua-cam.com/video/9vmUMfUa7wk/v-deo.html
In that case I suggest you take a look at the Luminator Advanced Kit on our website. It comes with the yoyo we use in most of our videos and a few extra things you will need like extra strings and lube and some other stuff to help the yoyo work as good as possible.
@stormbreakerfreak Yoyo strings can be replaced. It was probably a cotton string. Those break quite easily. You can always get more string on the YoTricks website if you need it.
Thank You!!! Awesome presentation in this video. I am going to dig out my YOYO and see if I lost my touch as I haven't used/played with one in many years.
Im really good throwing a yoyo, in fact its my favorite part just throwing it down and up, I have used it so much im really good at throwing it but I don't know any tricks at all. And I really want to learn some tricks, I have used it so much that its starting to brake (metal yoyo) this is a responsive yoyo so I don't know if its the right yoyo to do tricks with, either way can you recommend any yoyo that is good for starting to do tricks?
We have a whole video about that: ua-cam.com/video/SErcb7pcNqs/v-deo.html For you I would specifically recommend the Sage yoyo. yoyotricks.com/yoyo-store/yoyo-brands/yotricks/the-sage-yoyo-starter-pack/
I started with a Duncan imperial to get the initial motions right because the ones at walmart seem to need to be thrown really hard to sleep which is good practice, then I moved to a cheap 12 dollar yoyo king yoyo with a c bearing in it to learn string tricks and 2 weeks later I can do; man on the flying trapeze, a front mount and a brain scrambler(?). So it just takes patience, perseverance and learn from the basics up and in no time you will be doing tricks. I use the tutorials from this channel alone and I can do a decent amount of tricks from what people would consider a "short amount of time" . Long story short, listen to this channels advice and trick tutorials and don't give up
@ArgosaxPower In this video we are using the Originator, but for an all around good yoyo I recommend the Luminator. You can get it on YoTricks. If you get it in a kit (like the Advanced Kit) it works even better.
I am not sure what you mean by special or normal, but it is important to have a good yoyo. We have all kinds of yoyos on YoTricks.com that we recommend. I suggest you take a look at the site, we try to tell you everything you need to know to help you decide which yoyo is right for you.
I find a simpler way to do this is just to put the string of the yoyo between your index and middle finger on your left hand (or right hand if you throw the yoyo with your left), and then pull down quick and hard with that hand
I suggest you go to the YoTricks website and under the YoYo Trick option select Beginner Tricks and work your way through those tricks. That should give you everything you need to know.
I used the first method with the placing the yoyo on the string and now my yoyo has a knot in between the two pieces so more the 3/4 of the string is stuck. I cant just pull the yoyo apart because i have a Duncan Imperial. can you please tell me what to do because i got this yesterday,
TheRagingPizza I used a small object like a tiny screwdriver or a knife blade to get under the knot and free the rest of the string hope that helps you
@ElementWoIf If you changed the string it is possible that you put it on wrong. If so take a look at our video about replacing the string. Do a UA-cam search for: learn how to replace a yoyo string and it will show you how. If you did not change the string I recommend you take the string off and put it back on and see if that helps.
This is the Originator yoyo. We stopped carrying that yoyo, however, because it was a bit too easy to break. We now carry the Yomega Brain on the YoTricks website instead, it is similar but does not break so easily.
I have a weird yoyo part of it is sometimes responsive and unresponsive at the Same time while it can be turned into a fully responsive yoyo and this trick doesnt work
If you get the Shutter I suggest you get extra strings and Thin Yoyo Lube. This will help the bearing last much much longer. You should learn to bind first, though, because the shutter is an unresponsive yoyo. If you want a yoyo that can play both responsive and unresponsive I suggest the Velocity (it is an updated speed dial) or the Dark Magic 2. We carry both on YoTricks and both are very nice yoyos.
I don't know if one brand is altogether better than all the others, but there are definitely yoyos I would recommend depending on your skill level. Are you just getting into yoyoing, or do you already know some tricks? If so what tricks are you working on?
I would say that YoYoFactory has the most reliable products, especially when you are looking for an unresponsive yoyo. If you are looking for a responsive yoyo I would recommend the Peter Fish yoyos we have on YoTricks, especially when you get them in a kit. If you are looking for something just under $50 YoYoJam has some of the best yoyos in that price range.
It took me a week of practice to get it right edit:(and buying one with a bearing) and he responded to me when I asked what I was doing wrong and he said it's a trick that is waaaayyy more difficult than you would think
@westdellwoodguy It sounds like you need to learn how to bind. Do a youtube search for: learn how to bind a yoyo and watch our video. I have a feeling that will clear things up. A yoyo like the whip is better once you have mastered a few string tricks already, because technically the bind is a string trick. Some people may call the whip a beginner yoyo, but it is really a yoyo to help you begin unresponsive yoyoing, which you really can't begin until you have mastered a few other tricks.
We no longer sell the Originator because it is not durable enough, so I would recommend the Luminator. If you get the Luminator Advanced Kit that will help the Luminator play much better.
In all of our videos on UA-cam we have a link to the yoyo we are using (or recommend) in the description. In your case I would recommend getting the Luminator Advanced Kit which is the yoyo we use in most of our videos. It is available on the YoTricks website. Hope this helps!
Thanks @yotricks. Your help and these posts are invaluable to us. No yoyo schools around here I'm afraid. BTW Ended up on my knees trying the sky bind last night. Figuratively and literally. Getting good at winding at least.;)
If you already know how to bind then you can't go wrong getting a Protostar. Those retail for around $35. For just a little more you can get the new Shutter Yoyo which plays really awesome for the price. On YoTricks we are currently selling that yoyo for $45.
@preput What do you mean 'the other way around'? If I had to guess at what you meant I suppose it is true that when you catch the yoyo the string is in your hand backwards. That is the case if you catch the yoyo palm down, but one way to solve this problem is if you turn your hand over and allow the yoyo to fall into your hand palm up. Then it will fall into your hand and the yoyo and string will be facing the right direction. Of course, you may have been talking about something else :)
If the string is glued to the center it is not meant to sleep, you will need to get a different yoyo. I recommend you look into getting a ball bearing yoyo like the Luminator, which is the yoyo we use in most of our videos. If you get the Luminator Advanced Kit on the YoTricks website it comes with everything you need to do basic to advanced tricks.
If you are not sure what binding is I suggest you get the Velocity. If you want to know what binding is do a search for Learn how to bind an unresponsive yoyo and you should find our video about it.
It can, you just need to bind afterwards. If you check out our video How to bind an unresponsive yoyo we show how to do this towards the end of the video.
@RsExTeel What kind of yoyo is it? Most often when this happens either the yoyo isn't designed to sleep, or there is a knot in the string around the axle. If there is a knot around the axle then the string usually needs to be replaced. If it is a ball bearing yoyo the string may be caught between the bearing and the yoyo. If this is happening you need to take the yoyo apart, remove the string, then put the yoyo back together and then put the string back on. Hope this helps!
If you are having difficulty with your bind it will be very challenging to learn this trick on an unresponsive yoyo. I would recommend that while you are learning the basics you get a responsive yoyo, this will help you progress much more quickly.
It is normal when you are learning to have a hard time getting enough spin, so just keep working on it. When you bind, though, you should get the yoyo on the string like a normal front mount (like you would for the brain-scrambler/brain-twister). If you get the yoyo on the string the other way it will not catch. Hope this helps.
The yoyo is not too heavy. Just keep working on it, the Maverick is a fine yoyo for learning this trick. If you feel the yoyo is not responsive enough you could try lubing the axle.
I suggest you go to YoTricks.com and walk through the beginner yoyo trick videos. You should find just about everything you need to get you started in an order that is easy to follow.
Weight Rings are large O-rings that fit perfectly into the side of the yoyo to add extra weight to increase stability and allow the yoyo to sleep longer.
We sell the yoyos we use on our website. On every video (including this one) we give a link to the yoyo we used or recommend for learning the trick we are teaching. Hope this helps!
The yoyo in this video is the Originator, but we no longer carry that yoyo because it broke a little too easily. Instead we recommend people get the Fast 201 or the Yomega Brain if they are just starting to learn how to yoyo. We carry both on the YoTricks website.
We teach this at the end of our binding video. Do a youtube search for How to bind an unresponsive yoyo and towards the end of the video we will show what to do.
Actually in this video we use the Originator yoyo. We do not carry that yoyo any longer because it broke to easily. However, the Luminator Advanced Kit would be great for learning this trick.
That yoyo cannot wind up without brake pads (as you discovered) so you will need to replace them. You can either get Duncan replacement pads, or you can get the thin .555 silicone pads from the YoTricks site (which last much longer than the Duncan pads). Hope this helps!
Some of those questions only YoYoFactory could answer, but I'll give you my take. To me the Shutter is a budget metal yoyo with no compromises, that is to say it's not undersized, cheaply made, or poorly weighted. While I don't like it quite as much as some YYF's $90 offerings like the Genesis, that is probably just a matter of taste. I do like it more than a DV888 except that the finish of the DV888 is amazing for grinds. All in all I think it is a fantastic deal for the yoyo.
The Dark Magic 2 comes with 2 bearings. The thin bearing plays responsive, and the wide bearing plays unresponsive. If you play with it enough you will need to replace the response pads, but probably not for a while. I do recommend you get some Thin Yoyo Lube for the wide bearing, because this will help it last much longer. It is not strictly a "necessity" as the yoyo plays fine without lube, it will just keep it in working condition much longer. The thin bearing should not need lube.
It will work on unresponsive yoyos, you just need to bind after you get the yoyo spinning. Checkout the end of our video about binding and we will demonstrate how this works.
@akemper1394 I demonstrate how to do this in the video about binding. Do a youtube search for: learn how to bind a yoyo and you will find our binding video, and after 3:10 in that video I demonstrate how to wind an unresponsive yoyo up.
@SkaterzRule44 When I am learning most tricks I use a yoyo in the butterfly shape. However, if I am learning how to loop I use a thinner yoyo. If you are just getting into yoyoing you can's do better than the Luminator and the Dominator that we sell on YoTricks. However, if you are getting into some of the expert tricks you should pick up an Unresponsive yoyo. There are plenty of good unresponsive yoyos out there, but you should know a few string tricks before you try them out. Hope this helps.

Learn how to bind an unresponsive yoyo
and you should find our video about it.
Yes, but you will need to bind the yoyo to bring it back. In our video about binding we show how to do this.
You can use the dropdown menu to select 100 instead of 10. We do not have this option for every type of sting, though.
It can, you just need to bind afterwards. If you check out our video
How to bind an unresponsive yoyo
we show how to do this towards the end of the video.
Ok thanks. I learned how to bind a long time ago because I have a velocity. I'm not getting a shutter yet, but when I feel the need to upgrade I will.
Thanks man!!!!!!!!!! I can now wind my yoyo up WAY QUICKER NOW!!!!:)
If you are using the thin bearing. If you are using the wide bearing then you will need to bind after you get the yoyo spinning.
Weight Rings are large O-rings that fit perfectly into the side of the yoyo to add extra weight to increase stability and allow the yoyo to sleep longer.
This makes it less crimpy than doing the regular way. Thanks
He makes everything look so easy
We sell the yoyos we use on our website. On every video (including this one) we give a link to the yoyo we used or recommend for learning the trick we are teaching. Hope this helps!
The yoyo in this video is the Originator, but we no longer carry that yoyo because it broke a little too easily. Instead we recommend people get the Fast 201 or the Yomega Brain if they are just starting to learn how to yoyo. We carry both on the YoTricks website.
@dalmatian212 In this video I use the Originator yoyo by Peter Fish, but for most of our tricks I use the Luminator yoyo, also by Peter Fish.
We teach this at the end of our binding video. Do a youtube search for
How to bind an unresponsive yoyo
and towards the end of the video we will show what to do.
Then you will need to bind after you get the yoyo spinning. We demonstrate this towards the end of our binding video.
In most of our videos we use the Luminator Advanced Kit which we sell on the YoTricks website.
Yes, but you have to bind once you get it spinning. At the end of our video about binding we show how this works.
If the string is too long we do have a video about adjusting the yoyo string to your height. That may help :)
All in all I think it is a fantastic deal for the yoyo.
these vedios are so so so helpful for biginers&to learn various tricks of yoyos
With a Dash you will need to bind after you get the yoyo spinning. We show what this looks like at the end of the video where we teach how to bind.
Wow! Thanks! That's helped it a lot! I can go up half way now, and it can sleep better now! Thanks dude! :D
Yes, you will just need to bind at the end. We show how to do this at the end of our binding video.
Yes, you can do this with a metal yoyo. What kind of yoyo do you have?
It will work on unresponsive yoyos, you just need to bind after you get the yoyo spinning. Checkout the end of our video about binding and we will demonstrate how this works.
@akemper1394 I demonstrate how to do this in the video about binding. Do a youtube search for:
learn how to bind a yoyo
and you will find our binding video, and after 3:10 in that video I demonstrate how to wind an unresponsive yoyo up.
Will it never bind, or just not off of a quick wind? Also, do you have the yoyo setup for responsive play, or unresponsive play?
Thank you SOOOO much!
Ive gotten so frustrated ive BITTEN the yoyo!
thanks!
