Great Episode. My wife and I set this as a stretch goal from day 1. Probably never really got to the full 50%, but even still hitting a savings rate in the high 30s even 40% made all the difference in allowing us build margin for future expenses, build investments, etc. We spent 7 years living in 700 sq. ft. apartments/condos, and 5 of those with 1 car, but since it was just the two of us at the time, we didn't really need more than that.
30% or 40% is amazing! And just by having the goal of 50%, you will moderate lifestyle increases until it's a reality.
For one week every month I save 50% the other 3 weeks I save15% -10%is put in a high interest no touch saving account and 5%in an emergency fund, This has worked well and allows me not to feel deprived
