What’s up guys, it’s KK here the Krazy Korean and today I’m here at the Khao Kheow Zoo to see the world famous Baby Hippo, Moo Deng.
This adorable hippo has caused Moo Deng fever with zoo attendance up to over 10,000 visitors on weekends. The zoo has had to limit the amount of time visitors can spend observing Moo Deng due to overwhelming demand so if you plan to go, I would recommend going on a weekday.
Moo Deng was born in July 2024 at the Khao Kheow Zoo in Thailand and has become an massive internet
sensation with millions of followers and her videos have become viral.
The name Moo Deng translates to “Bouncy Pig” in Thai and was chosen by fans because of her
playful, chubby appearance.
Now there are two different types of hippopotamus. The first type is the “Common Hippopotamus” which is the much larger and heavier type that can weight over
8000 LBS! The second type of hippopotamus is the Pygmy hippo which is much smaller and can weight only 400-600lbs and Moo Deng is a baby pygmy hippo. Pygmy hippos are an endangered species with less that 3000 left in the world. They are herbivores and primarily feed on leaves, roots, ferns and fruit. In
captivity, pygmy hippos can live for approximately 35-50 years which is much longer than their lifespan in the wild due to protection from predators and better
access to food.
Hippos are from Africa and if you want to see them in the wild and I highly recommend doing an African
Safari and seeing the Big 5 as well. The Big 5 are Lions, Elephants, Buffalos, Leopards and Rhinos and seeing them on an African safari is an adventure of a
lifetime.
