Seth, on your 2x8 comment for wheeling bikes up the stairs, one way to avoid your daughter playing with it is to have it hinged off the banister rail, that way you can have it in an upright locked position when not needed, and then when you need to use it unlock it and flap it down onto the stairs, you can even make it look like a facing board for the banister.
I was thinking just putting a gate at the bottom of the stairs. This way they are completely closed off to the kids when he's not up there. I'd also be wanting something around the firepole at the top to prevent any kid from falling through accidently.
Your videos helped get me into engineering. I watched you and Alex convert his van. I started watching your guys videos and that got me into mountain biking. Eventually my bike broke, so I watched your videos and park tool to fix it myself. This lead to me taking apart my bike and putting it back together and then I decided I wanted to design things and be an engineer. I’m now at Purdue Engineering which is one of the best engineering schools in the country, and I love it here. So indirectly your videos changed the course of my life. Excited to see more flip bike and repair videos!
I use to be a bit of a hoarder of bike parts myself, but over the last 10 yrs my supply has dwindled down from repairing and building up older bikes for friends and neighbors. You should name the bike attic, the "Bike Addict"😊
Nice storage solutions! Something I find really useful on small draws is to hot glue one item from each draw to the front. Then you can imminently know what’s inside without having to read the label.
I 100% agree with giving old stuff new life. I recently got a 20ish year old Marin that I've been using to get around town because my ebike is in need of repairs I currently don't have the money or tools to do myself. It's been an adjustment going back to no pedal assist but I have been amazed at how well it's held up after a basic tune up
Good work Seth! 4:11 How about making slide/ramp for the bikes on a hinge? Then you flip it to the side when you are done moving bikes and its just a regular stair.
I typically would not watch mtb vids where people are just in a shop but Seths content is so amazing every time I see a new video I am intrigued to watch, I watch your videos even if I did not mountain bike.
Fantastic idea Seth, that's a HUGE space to utilise, and who wouldn't love a firepole to play on :) Maybe worth making the door at top of stairs taller so you don't have to duck every time?
Maybe it'd look weird from the outside, having this tall door real close to the roof? Idk it would for sure be more comfortable than ducking but I guess that could be an issue.
There’s always another optimization! So far on about 40 trips in and out I hit my head 2 times, so by the end of the year it should cost me 12 to 14 head impacts, or whatever it would take to make the opening bigger. There is a light and a fair bit of framing above the door and so it might not be possible to improve it much. Luckily I can just climb the firepole with plenty of headroom.
@@SethsBikeHacks The framing above the door is the header for the door opening and could be moved up higher. You would just need to relocate the electrical, which you already seem comfortable doing.
When you said you knew what we were thinking when going up the stairs, that was close. However my actual thought was "I bet Seth is thinking about riding down these stairs" haha
Yes Seth! More Flip Bike! I just modernized a Trek Xcalibur from a 2x7 to a 1x10 with an upgraded air fork. Was really fun to tinker with the bike and learn some new skills along the build.
From the start I’m thinking why would he put that pole in the middle of the shop. Surely he’s thought this through. I couldn’t see the vision. Honestly laughed pretty hard when seeing he doubled it as a bike stand as well 😂 Seth thank you, I’m so grateful for your channel. So inspiring! Keep up the great work!
Label maker for the win! Everyone needs one, even a basic one. Makes your life so much easier to find stuff when you need it, especially with organizer bins.
I’m excited that there is going to be more bike repair/ rebuild videos. This channel convinced me to strip my 2009 29er down to the the frame and rebuild it back better than ever. It’s still a work in progress, but I like being the old guy on the hard tail that is basically a one of a kind ride.
Love it, so jealous! I have two questions: why didn't you build a taller door and when are we going to see a review of the best bikes to ride down stairs?
Well done, Seth. Awesome work. Love the Bike Flip episodes. Also, that smile after you slid down the pole with the bike attached to the bottom was the best. Keep up the great work.
Absolutely love it man! I take the same philosophy with my '95 Toyota Camry still driving strong with some replacement parts. Reduce. Reuse. Then Recycle.
Your videos got me back on a bike at 39 and hitting jump and I watched your video on balance bikes and my daughter is flying around now and I new what one to get but your video so you rock Seth.
This is inspiring, as I'm waiting another couple months for cooler weather so I can clean my attic out and organize it better... I'm basically turning half of it into a bike storage area, and the other half to where I can move much of my garage items up to it to clear floor space for bike repairs and projects.
I used to have an attic like that, but it was just way smaller. I used it to work on bikes and store them as well. It was a pain to get them up and down for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Seth Ive been a subscriber ever since you uploaded alot of Bike Hacks and tutorials in your small backyard with a small closet as a storage unit. Now look at this place. Its now a huge thing for the channel. Keep doing what you do and keep up the good work. 🤘🤘🤘
The more I watch you make these videos instead of you riding, it makes me not mind the newer videos im not used to, but the videos are still great and fun to watch
Thats a great Idea Seth! Sadly I don't have a big enough attic to do all this. But adding some insulitaion could save you a heat stroke on those summer days.
Your storage solution just gave me the answer to solve my own bike storage problem. I’ve been trying to figure out how to store multiple bikes in a narrow, under stairs cupboard with a sloping plasterboard ceiling and the door at an awkward angle. Pipe across and suspend the bikes by the saddle. Thank you.
It's so satisfying to see every thing organize. What you did on your attic was perfect, maximizing space... I hope i can visit your shop someday and get one of those old bikes.. 😂
Wood plank on a hinge for the stairs with a lock so your daughter can't pull it down. Easy to install, easier to get bikes in and out and not a danger for your daughter.
I love watching you fix bikes. I'm no mechanic but at least I have a much better understanding about bike tech. With some tools I might actually be able to tackle some of those repairs or mods. Great video and awesome workshop!
That's really nice. One of my friends gave me a Trek 7400 which in going to make into a bike camping rig and another guy just gave me a diamondback Ascent ex. It will be an extra bike for visitors. Thanks for making these videos
Nice!!! I'm on board with re*cycling*... I've built myself a nice 2008 Focus cyclocross and got pretty much everything used but in really nice condition. The only really new parts were tires, rims and spokes... consumables like cables, brake pads adn topped it off with new handlebars and saddle. The bike feels solid and new and it's satisfying to know I used stuff that was probably just not the right fit for the previous owner but not worth throwing away!! Save a tree, ride your bike... save lot's of trees, fix your bike!!
Not fancy? I love it! The style fits perfectly the attic and its quite minimalistic - which is fancy as hell. Its obvious that you were more thinking than cutting. Its well set. Better than any solution you can just buy.
You're a GENIUS Seth! So freakin organized. When you outgrow this space, and you will, you need a separate house/garage for storage. I enjoyed the video.
I was gonna say "yeah but now you have a fire pole in the middle of your work area.." then you showed me that its actually a benefit because now you can have a bike stand (or two) that doesnt even have legs sticking out. How dare I doubt Seth!
Organization is the key to happiness. I probably would have turned the loft into a cigar lounge and been miserable with my mess downstairs, LOL. Good call on keeping it at home and ditching the storage unit.
Should put in a bucket pulley system so you can lower stuff down without having to make multiple trips
But a pedal system to raise and lower the bucket!!
Elevator platform that slides around the pole
@@MrJamesLuz If this man doesnt make a bike powered elevator of some type i will be very disappointed.
@@mrsaucy1112and it better be super sketchy too!
Yep, thinking the whole time it needs a dumbwaiter of some kind. And probably a bike pulley lift on the outside like you see on hay barns.
That staircase looks like it could be used as a roll in to a new trail!
From small Florida shed to bike attic. What a journey
Used to be just a closet at some point
used to watch back in bike closet days, first vid i’ve seen in ages, super crazy

And let's not pretend that Seth won't at least be considering riding bikes down this staircase. He needs this! It could be another flight deck!
That would be sick

10/10 best name suggestion!
Thought of the same thing 😂😂
My thought exactly :D
"Seth´s Bikehacks" is now more appropriate again than ever. Fun to see the hole loop of bike entertainment coming to a closure. Keep it up :D
I miss the longer videos of seeing seth build it step by step i enjoy every second
Seth never fails to entertain me
Seth, you may have a future career as an exotic dancer.
The staircase redundancy bit at the beginning definitely made me chuckle. Wish I was as handy as you are! You make these projects seem so easy!

Wow that’s genius. Thanks for the great tip!
Sometimes I think Seth has a home improvement channel masquerading as a biking channel.
Yes! Ever since I saw the attic, I knew it had potential!
That was so satisfying! Love getting stuff decluttered and organized. What a relief!

I definitely learned something today: you actually use all that workout equipment in your basement. Climbing up a pole? I'm impressed.

Great job. Wish my attic was this organized. Also, love all the rebuilds!

Yes!
I was shocked to see he still had that 😅
