This isn't just limited to the rules of a game, but also like, "do you think it's a good idea to hit again?" For most tables in Vegas, the dealer is allowed to be totally honest and tell you, no, don't hit on a 20 hand, or something to that effect; yes, an obvious hand, but that functionality is apparently in place to make it so people feel more comfortable and play more. Not all dealers are nice or even honest; it really depends on the casino, and how you know really depends more on asking around at your hotel front desk, bartenders at the casinos, etc. Like don't get me twisted, Vegas is DESIGNED to drain you of money, the house is meant to win, unless you're counting cards (which will inevitably get you kicked out, in the modern day, back in the day, well let's just say the ivy league punks counting cards were lucky the pit bosses could tell that's all they were doing). That being said, there's a lot of ways to have fun, lose some money, maybe even make some money, get some free drinks or food, upgrade your room for free, all that stuff, while you're in Vegas if you play your cards right and know the right person to talk to or even tip (sure, it's no longer free, but tipping someone $50 to get a room that costs twice as much ain't too bad). The house also generally does have fairly solid rules on how the dealer will play. Again, depends on the casino and table, but usually it's posted (it might even be a legal thing) and so you'll know if you have an 19 hand, and the dealer won't hit above, say 16, then you win. I'm simplifying since I only have secondhand knowledge, but there are times when people do stupid stuff to try to "win", when they've already won. All this is to answer Lyle's question, the pit bosses don't really need to trust the dealers all that much, because they're basically just card dealing robots. Now, there are and will always be people who cheat for players, but that's a real bad idea, since it's both illegal, but also a quick way to get fired since there are cameras and eyes watching you constantly. If Lyle was a dealer and whenever Chris came over to play, Chris was able to beat the odds, someone will notice. Now with AI and shit, I'm guessing it's even more automated, since the casinos have been counting their own cards, so to speak, since they've been able to. Given that people working in the area are a dime a dozen, it's not much to fire someone and ban them from the property, and low key burn them from any property where they're able to make money.
