Dear Ben: Question: My U. S. passport renewal application was rejected and returned because of the photo. Could I attach a newly taken photograph to the same application documents? I am thanking you in advance for your prompt reply.
@@BenDreamVacations Thank you, Ben: However, what about the *date* on the same application? Do you think that I should rewrite the check, for this will be six weeks old?
@@BenDreamVacations How would I change the application date without rewriting the application? I had tried to call the passport agency but cannot get through.
@james cori I am not sure why your comment disappeared but to answer your question you need to send in both your passport book and passport card if you want to renew both.
I applied may 22nd with expedited service how long would it take me to get my passport after the agency approves it with standard delivery. And if so do you recommend getting the 2 day $20 delivery fee
With expedited service you will receive your passport within 4-6 weeks. I have been hearing that the passport agency is experiencing a high volume of passport applications so it’s possible that you may not receive your passport until closer to the 6 weeks. I would recommend getting the 2 day delivery if you need your passport back fast. You will get it back 3-5 days sooner typically. You can check your status at passportstatus.state.gov/. If your status says not available then the agency has either not received your application yet or has not started processing it yet. If it says in process then you know they are working on it and you can expect to receive your passport soon.
Hello! I am going to post office today to renew my expired passport. Do I include all fees (this includes passport book fee, expedited $60 fee, and 1-2 day delivery fee) all on 1 money order?
You can pick up a blank DS-82 form at your nearest usps, and some usps locations can even provide passport photo services. If there is not one that provides that service in your area then then you can get a passport photo done at a CVS or Walgreens as well as get a money order there. Walmart will also do money orders. Once you have your form fill out and your photo taken you can renew by mail through your nearest usps.
Can you get a money order from the post office? If so, what information needs to be on the money order and can you send a family member to mail the passport at the post office for you or do you need to personally mail it yourself? Thanks!
Hi Eric, Yes, you can get a money order from the post office. The information that you need to fill out on the money order is the recipient which in this case would be the U.S. Department of State. Then fill out your address in the purchaser section and sign the money order. Just note you cannot pay for a money order with a credit card. You do not have to be present if you are just renewing your passport. Just make sure you are mailing your passport through the postal service. If you use their priority mail or priority mail express they will provide you with a free envelope big enough to mail your passport renewal documents with.
It is recommended that you send your renewal through the post office's Priority Mail Express to ensure that your passport gets to the processing center without delay but you can just drop it in one of their mail boxes or mail from your home mailbox. Just make sure you have a large enough envelope so you don't have to fold the application as well as the correct postage.
I saw an article that the state department is working on an online passport renewal service. It is only for those over the age of 16 and was previously issued an adult passport (you cannot use this to renew a 5 year child's passport), no name or gender changes and you cannot use it to renew a passport card. Photo is simply upload a compliant 2x2 jpeg and you can pay using a card or ACH.
Yes! They are working on it and should be ready to launch towards the end of this year. This should be a much easier process than what is currently in place now. I will be sure to have a video about it explaining the new process after it launches.
Just for clarification, If I want my renewal expedited, my money order/check should have that included in the total? (As well mail it with expedite on the envelope)
Correct. If you use the fee calculator that will give you the total amount to write your check or money order for. When mailing your application write expedite on the envelope.
Can I get the money from Walmart and how do I send the money order ...out it in side the mailing paper. I was applying for job but a require passport.. 2. If i choose 2day delivery? Then ? Plz reply em not good at English Thank-you
Hi Tiger, you can get a money order at Walmart. You just need to make sure to make the money order payable to the U.S. Department of State with the correct amount of fees on the money order. Use the fee calculator to figure out what your fees will be 👉 travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/fees/fee-calculator.html A 2 day delivery just means you will get your passport within 2 days from the time it is ready to be sent to you as opposed to the normal delivery time which is much longer. Let me know if any more questions. Happy to help.
Hello I have a question how do I fill out the check in order to send my passport renewal ? I’m not sure how to fill it out ?, and I don’t understand how the department of us can receive the money do I have to put in my bank route number and stuff on the check ? Do I specifically go to my bank and ask for a check and it already my information?
If you have checks from your bank the routing and account numbers are already on the checks. You just have to fill out the check with the correct amount. If you don’t have checks from your bank then you can ask for a money order from the bank. It will be cheaper than having to order checks.
@@BenDreamVacations thank you so much I have this last question so I realize my passport was issued when I was 14 I’m 19 now am I still eligible to renew by mail with the ds 82 form ? I don’t want to go in person
@@heartlystar1563 you would need to use a DS 11 form and visit in person at an agency or an acceptance facility such as a govt building or post office. Child passports cannot be renewed by mail.
Hi Stephanie, on the DS-82 application form you will see three options. One to apply for a passport book, one to apply for a passport card and one to apply for both the passport book and passport card. Just check the box to apply for both. You will need to submit your passport card along with your application when applying. Hope that helps.
I’m the opposite. I will be renewing my passport book, and be getting a passport card for the first time. Is it the same steps? Will I pay the renewal fee of $110 plus the first time card fee of $65, or will I just pay the $110 plus $30?
Hi Evelyn! You will need to fill out the DS-11 form. If she is is still under 18 both parents will need to go with her when she applies. You can check out my video on how to apply for your child’s passport here. ua-cam.com/video/ZB8WExfmZAQ/v-deo.html . Otherwise, if she is over 18 she can apply in person by herself using the DS-11 form.
Hi Horan. Yes you can still renew your passport by mail even if your passports are expired. Just make sure the issue dates of your passports are not more than 15 years old. Also, if your daughter was under 18 when she was issued her most recent passport she will need to apply in person as a first time passport applicant since she is now considered an adult.
I am renewing my passport for a change of last name. Where do I write my new last name in the form? Do I just write the place and date of name change on BOX 11 and submit the marriage certificate with form? Please help. Thank you.
Hi Rezee, you will just check one of the boxes on box 11, write in the place of the name change and the date and submit your name change document. On the top of page 2 of the form, where it says name of applicant is where you will enter your new last name.
You can choose to expedite your passport which you can get it in 5 to 7 weeks. The other option the passport agency provides is what is called Urgent Travel. You would only be able to apply within 5 business days of your international travel and they only take limited appointments. You would also need to show proof of travel. Those would be your only 2 options.
Look at the issue date of your passport. If it is more than 15 years ago you will not be able to renew it. You will have to apply as if you are applying for the first time. I have a video on how to do that on my channel.
Unfortunately, passports that were issued to minors cannot be renewed. Since you daughter is almost 18 she will need to apply in person at a passport facility. The DS-11 form is what she will need to apply for her own passport. You can watch my video on how to apply for a US passport for kids 16 and 17 years old here: ua-cam.com/video/ZB8WExfmZAQ/v-deo.html. There are some extra steps that go along with it that involve you as the parent. Otherwise she can wait until she turns 18 and apply as an adult.

state department should have it up and running next year but there might be another trial as the first one met it's quota of 25k applicants.
What about shipping back ? How much is that?
The cost to ship back is already included in the fee. The passport agency will ship your old and new passport to you once the process is complete.
You can spend an additional 18.32 for 1-2 day shipping but they use priority for standard so it should come rather quickly.
Just for clarification, If I want my renewal expedited, my money order/check should have that included in the total? (As well mail it with expedite on the envelope)
