There are various ways you can do this - I've included the one I like best on the page on my webiste: anoregoncottage.com/freeze-corn-three-ways-blanched-unblanched-whole/
Been doing the straw trick for years. Finally broke down about a vacuum sealer It doesn't work well with chicken because there's just so much moisture. So I still do the straw method with chicken
I prefer the cooked kernels because I can use them from the freezer in salads. The raw ones are okay for when you're going to cook them. I think the flavor is similar.
so neat to see the different ways to preserve corn. I have always cut it off and cooked it for about 7 min then cooled and bagged, froze. Love the knife. where did you get the knife in this video. Thanks, enjoyed this.
I froze uncooked corn on the cob and used cryovac bags probably had them frozen for about 4 months but I found they had a rubbery texture afterwards and no one would eat them, including me.
Well, everyone is definitely different. I've heard from people who swear that when they microwave frozen corn it's just like fresh. 😀 I don't really find that, lol, but I do a few ears this way because it is so easy and I can cook it (I usually boil it) and cut it from the cob to use in recipes and it seems fine then. Definitely pick another way to freeze corn that you like!
Yes, if you need to - just make sure it is thoroughly dry (if it's organic and covered with the leaves of the husk, you'd only really need to wash if there is an worm or something).
I don't think so - that means it's too old. Or you overcooked it - I don't know which. You could use it in a soup or something. Maybe heat the kernels in milk with onions and seasoning until the milk absorbs it? I've heard that used for old corn….
@@AnOregonCottage Sandhavi Srivastava means "corn silk," - the tassels on the top of the corn cob when still encased in the husks. It dries nicely and I use it to decorate autumn wreathes. I don't think you can preserve it to look as silky as it does when you first pick the ear of corn. Sadly. I think they're pretty, too. I often thought that if the silk can remain silky somehow instead of turning to hay, it would make lovely textile for fabric. But - alas1
Good video. But now let me help you. Next time put enough water in your sink to dunk your bags into. Then close the bag except the final corner. Submerge bag in water except your corner. Then seal. No Air. Better than a straw. Cheaper than a gadget. You will have a nice smile.
Thanks - I've tried that and find it more cumbersome and then have to deal with dripping bags. With a straw it's just remove air, place in freezer - done. To each their own, right? :)
Thanks for the tips. I met a nice farmer recently who told me to take as much corn as i want, this will be useful!
Lucky you! Glad this was helpful!
Thank you! I didn't know about the straw !
Happy to help!
Straight and to the point 👏👍🏻💪

Handy tips...thanks for sharing. Have a Blessed day.
Do you have a video on taking them out of the freezer and cooking them; the first option, cleaning and freezing uncooked?

Thank you for the helpful tips. I just bought corn on sale but my party isn't until next week. I've never had to store corn before. This helps

Thanks .Extremely helpful
Glad it helped!
Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks, will do!
Do we need to boil before freezing? Or can we directly put the them in the freezer?
You can do either!
Texture changes after while
Very helpful, thank you so much
You're welcome - glad it was helpful!
Dip the filled bag in a pan of water to the seal. It forces air out and you don’t hyperventilate.
Thanks - I've heard that a lot. :) I just find this quicker with no dripping water everywhere.
Thank you ! Very helpful !

Good info, I wish you were more specific about how many minutes to blanch corn
It's In the description with the link to here: anoregoncottage.com/freeze-corn-three-ways-blanched-unblanched-whole/
Will it get soft?
I haven't noticed that. I always suggest freezing just a cup or so at first to see if you like it.
What kind of knife is that and where do you get it?
It's the Fiskars Summit chef's knife and I love it! Here's an affiliate link for it: amzn.to/3k29kRm
How do you cook it then
You can find the best ways to use the different types of frozen corn here: anoregoncottage.com/freeze-corn-three-ways-blanched-unblanched-whole/

hey just wanted to know how is your dog now ?????
Thanks for asking - he had a long and healthy life until he died last fall at the age of 14.
How to make chewy corn fresh again.. Any way?

How to preserve silk corn

Thanks!
I do the same things, with all my veggis
Great!
Wait, you usually only eat 1/2 cob? You must not like corn on the cob😅 seriously tho, thank you for these tips
Okay, only if it's one of those really big Bodacious cobs - I do eat whole smaller cobs. 😀
Most beautiful woman...omgosh...and thank you for the freezing corn tip
😊 thank you
You do not explain what to do when you take them out of the freezer?
You mean how to cook them? I have suggestions on the page on my website - link in description - for using the different types of frozen corn.
Vac seal
That's a great option if you have one.
The corn becomes to milky
At what point?
No
