The look on your face when the doorbell rang was priceless, a kid on Christmas morning. Just found your channel, like your content. Next stop your race video.
The Altra trail shorts were one of my favorite shorts of all time. I tried out the T8 Sherpa shorts and I'm pleased to report that I like them better. They don't have a built in liner so you have to pair them with T8 Commando underwear. Together, they're lighter, have more storage, and dry faster than the Altras. I haven't chaffed in them yet.
The shorts follow the same design as Salomon and as far as I'm aware the pocket is stow for a lite water/windproof jacket. Well its what its used for in the UK.. where it rains most of the blasted time!
Ah yeah a jacket makes sense. I've tried to put a water bottle back there and had to really tighten the shorts so they wouldn't fall down 😂. I think whatever they intended it for needs to be light. I've put gloves back there too, but am always scared that whatever it is will fall out. So I just don't use it, but a jacket would probably work really well. Thanks!
@@RyanClaytonFilms been there and done all of the above.. the shorts did come down.. soft flask, ahh it made the ladies laugh!! How did the run go.. or that spoilers?
I’m newer to running but familiar with endurance cycling. How do you determine your nutritional and hydration needs beforehand? It sounded like you could refill at your vehicle, so didn’t need to take everything with you. Why do you take a gel as often as you do?
Doing my first 50 in June about 7k feet of vert. Any tips for the first one on the list ? Idk I'm excited looking forward to the challenge just lost as to what to bring with me.it sounds like theres 12 aid stations fully stocked but just thinking about the 16 weeks I have to prep haha
Watching in 2022; about to go out for a 20 mile training run (prepping for the JFK 50 milier, November 19th). Today, it's a wintery mix of snow and freezing rain!🥶 I don't want to do this!😫 However, this video got me psyched up!😃💥Thanks!👋🏽🏞️🏃🏽♂️
hahahah, that became more and more of a "fear" as the run went on. No email though, probably would have made me pike right then and there 😂. It looks like I'm still #3, and I am okay with that for now! In a few days the sting of this run will wear off and I'll be excited all over again!
I went out to Prophetstown State park, local place here close to West Lafayette. 10 mile loops made it nice to come back to the car as an aid station. I need to get on the Ginger Ale, I always forget about that!!! Thanks Denise!!
Great stuff, it seems you really planned it perfectly. Clean 🧼 up your shoes maybe before a long run / race. 😅 I dunno 🤷♂️ you wouldn’t want to start a run with dirty clothes, so why would you do it with dirty shoes (but that’s just me; cleaning shoes after 90% of the runs). I didn’t see the follow up video, but I feel it went pretty great 👍
Being an injinji loyalist, I’ll have to give the xoskin socks a try Do you feel like the Olympus is too much shoe for a 50m? I did a 50m last weekend started out in salomon sense ride 2s, switched to hoka soeedgoats and then to altra lone peak 4.5s because of toe blisters forming. Have fun!
Yeah the Olympus is a lot of shoe for sure, but the shock absorption is key for me. I'm 6'2", so the ratio of shoe/human is a bit less than some people 😂. I don't know if that actually matters, but the max cushion helps me more than the weight hurts in the long run, I guess that's how I see it. Hard to find the perfect shoe!
Ryan Clayton yeah that’s very true, makes sense didn’t realize you were that tall. I have the Olympus but haven’t busted them out yet. The speedgoat 3s are comparable in weight and I love those shoes wear them all the time to protect feet on rocky roooty trails here in nj.
I’ve always used Anker and they’ve been great. I have a really small one that’s easy to fit in a pack while running Incase a headlamp or watch battery gets low. But I have a large bank that can hold a lot more of a charge and charge quicker that I keep in the car.
Not for this run, during a 100 I’ll have a different approach though. Trickle in solid food with gels for the first half and then do whatever needed during the second half to get calories in, gels or food

Haha yeah I guess I do get a little excited when a new camera shows up! 🎄
I think the back pocket/sleeve on the shorts is to run a shirt/extra shirt through. Great vid, good luck!
Good call! That would work great, I'll have to try it for that. Whatever it is needs to be light and a shirt or jacket would definitely work!
EEEEEK! Hope you have an amazing run! Can’t wait to hear all the good n gory details!!!
Hahaha, thanks!!!!!!

Oh sweet! I need to check those out right now!

Great video, l love hearing the set up... Already watched your solo
Good luck and enjoy the ride. You are an inspiration to a lot of people - myself included.
Thank you so much Joey, that means a lot!!! 👏

Stoked to see the outcome of this 50 miler! Have fun!!
thanks dude!!!! Knowing that you and others were rooting for me kept the engine going while I was out there alone!!! 👏
Have fun! Looking forward to the run recap video!
Thanks Bernard!!
Good luck! Love those shorts, the back sleeve shorts is to hold a pack away jacket. I have tried it, but don’t love it. Best of luck
Nice, that's something I need to try. Thanks you!!!
Good stuff, man...really appreciate your videos!
Thank you Alex!
Nice video. What was the app you use for calculating pace? It looked useful.

You got this!!!!!!
Sounds like a solid plan! Have fun with the 50!!
Thanks Robyn!!
Good luck! Enjoy the day!
Thank you so much Jim!
Murphy’s Law says 100% you are getting an email asking you to sign up for that miler while you’re running tomorrow. Have fun!!

Where ya running ??? Ginger ale little cans good to have on a 50
Or 100 miler!! Good luck!!

Rooting for you from Chicago!!
Thank you Sherry, that's awesome! 👏
Very exciting! 50 miler and third in the waiting list😃👍 woohoo!!
So close! The further I got into the run, the more and more afraid I was to check my email! 😂😂😂
Have fun!
Thank you!!
so jealous of your temps and clean air. in norcal and its still in 90-100 and Smokey.
Ahh, hope you guys are doing okay over there! 🙏
Past week has been 100% better.
robert good to hear!

Thanks Alex!
Best of luck to you.
Thanks Todd!
A solo 50 mile wow got to see this effort I did a solo 50k and stopped at 40k was brutal
Good luck!
Thanks Max!
Good luck Ryan. Take it slow, have fun
Thanks Mark!!
I’m curious which Salomon shirt you like?
It’s called the “S/LAB NSO TEE” and it looks like the new model is slightly different but that’s the one. 👍
Ryan Clayton do you find it runs true to size or one size up? Thanks!
Jamie Rickard it is the same as other Salomon, they all run a bit small. It’s okay for me but others I know get a size up with Salomon shirts.
Good luck
Thank you!!

And yeah, big plus on rocks and roots!
Those are my favorite shorts, Altra should reintroduce them.
I totally agree with you!
Pocket in shorts is for a shirt that you need to take off during run and not have to hold it
Oh awesome, thanks!!
What power bank do you recommend or are they all about the same?
I’ve always used Anker and they’ve been great. I have a really small one that’s easy to fit in a pack while running Incase a headlamp or watch battery gets low. But I have a large bank that can hold a lot more of a charge and charge quicker that I keep in the car.
Sanitised the cardboard box you say?
Revisiting these videos. My 50k in two weeks was cancelled. Planning a solo one.
Awesome!! While I definitely didn’t use all of this, I felt better being prepared, good luck!!
@@RyanClaytonFilms Thanks man!
No solid food?

you lost me at "i sanitized this box already"
I'm curious why you would use such a large, heavy (by comparison) MP3 player? Why not roll with a much smaller MP3 player like a Sony or something?
🏃🏽♂️🤞🏽
Thanks Jeff!!!
