Hi Cris! Enjoyed your shopping. I also enjoy watching birds. Think twice about encouraging the woodpeckers. They ruined the exterior of our house and we had to replace it which was costly. Also, Jay showed a hawk in one of his videos. I have a few and I feel so bad when they go after my favorite birds. I would try to get some sort of shelter(I don’t know what) around the bird bath etc. so that the birds feel secure . Have fun with your new bird watching and keep us up to date with what you are planning for your yard.
Yesss love the nerdy content! Loved how you talked about providing native plants for pollinators - it’s so important, especially in these days. The sci fi shindig looked really neat as well. I will definitely have to watch Jay’s video later.
Hey Cris and Jay, Birding is an awesome hobby! I live in Louisiana so our climates are similar as well as birds. I started birding at 15, 47 now. I was trained by many great birders and a master hummingbird bander here locally. If you have questions about birding anything, books, plants, binoculars, feeders and baths etc. let me know. I’ll help lead you in the right direction. I’m looking forward to more videos on birding things!! Y’all are awesome! For hummingbirds, use only the regular table sugar and mix one part sugar to four parts water in however small or large of a batch you need or want. Also make sure you take the feeders down and clean them every 3-5 days depending on temperature. Hotter temps will make the solution spoil faster. The mixes sold usually contain red dye which is harmful for hummingbirds and not necessary as the birds already know to look for the feeders and the red parts on feeders are enough of an attractant.
Cris- I love these types of videos- home and yard maintenance and decor! And I love to hear you rattle off the names of plants. I never had luck with indoor house plants but I became familiar with a lot of the outdoor landscape plants. I had a birdbath and really enjoyed watching the birds dive down from the roof- it was like bird “cliff diving”. Sadly I lost my birdbath in a move to TX. However, I have a backyard pool now which is a resort style birdbath for the locals😂
I do get a variety of birds. Finches / Doves / Blue Jays a Woodpecker and Ravens. Red Cardinal sometimes. Love sitting on the front deck and watching them. The hummingbirds as well.
And you are correct in that it is difficult to grow flowering plants in areas where we get extremely hot temperatures. I have given up on flowering plants and use colorful foliage for that pop of color!
The best thing about living in Florida, the garden centers are open almost year round! Look for some nice gardenias.. I had good luck with them. I also had some beautiful roses when living in Naples! Another good one was hibiscus! Another thought is orchids. You can put them in the palm trees in just moss...
Hey Cris, I want to tell you about our new obsession for flowers. We’ve never grown them before last summer. It started with our hummingbird feeder out back, and how easy it was to attract them. Then we got some flowering plants that attract bees an butterflies. All of a sudden we have both hummingbirds to watch, as well as lots of butterflies! Love both of these “watching” activities now, and super easy! Best wishes!
I would exercise caution on encouraging woodpeckers. They WILL go after your house which regardless if you're a renter or an owner, you don't want to have to start having to fix the damage. Guaranteed, they will put holes directly through into your home. That will of course invite other critters that you're not going to want. Further, since you do rent, you're landlord won't be too happy at all. It cost us over $8K to fix the problems caused by the neighbors bringing in woodpeckers.
Get a Golden Finch feeder. You'll be amazed how many you get. They love the black seed feed. I forgot what it's called though. And a traditional finch feeder is a long cylinder (more narrow) 😊
Loving the video!!! I have 2 bird feeders out in my front yard. I have a woodpecker that comes. But he eats with the other birds. I live in Alabama guess they're different here lol I buy the generic Walmart bird feed. My bird's like it. I fill my hummingbird feeders with 2 cups water and 1cup sugar. Boil water melt sugar cool put in feeder. Clean feeder with lemon water. Totally get a birdbath. They like a food and water source. Muc Luv ❤
Hi Chris I very much enjoyed your video as always, I must admit I've never had much of a green thumb however I'm hoping that will change this year as my husband is planning on recreating our back garden this year and he's said once he's layed down the foundation the rest is up to me, god help him 😅 after seeing your video there's a few things I've seen that I like . The outdoor convention looked cool too, we have a comic con convention coming to my hometown soon and I'm very much hoping to cover it , it will be my first time ever covering one x
I have tried Daisies last year. Keep them in pots clay to move in shaded area, when it was too hot. Direct sun drys them out . Even tho it said 6+ hrs sunlight. They survive the winter. Hope to see daisy flower soon. Best to you.
As the King of Men, I hereby declare January, from this day forward, to be Vloguary. I also declare, my subjects, that February will, from this day forth shall be called Floguary.
Dirty things lol! I sometimes wear disposable gloves and just throw them away. Soon I am getting some new plants and soil. Cannot if I haven't botany lol!
Hi Cris. Glad your bird feeder is working out. I think when the birds get the word out there's some good food at your house, you'll be swamped. lol. I have Peregrine falcons that visit our yard. I get worried because we have kittens that play out there. If I remember, you have one too going to your yard. They're so beautiful. Even the crows stay away from them. Thanks for sharing, take care Cris. 🙂
The clear window bird feeder does not work!! We have 2 and took them down….we didn’t get any birds. We tried different food and nothing worked. We’re going to look at what you have since that seems to work!
Cris if you have a rural king or tractor supply company farm stores down that way they have feed u can buy in bulk and supplies that are majority of the time cheaper we go to those all the time up here in Indiana and Michigan... love the food u chose for the birdies .my neighbor loves that feed and gets a ton of birdies ❤❤
When Tampa Jay and You go back to Savannah Georgia you and Tampa Jay need to go to Juliette Low house where Girls Scouts museum and not the far from Chippewa Square where part of Forest Gump was filmed

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Blue Jays love unsalted whole peanuts.
Renter recommendation don't plant anything outside that get bigger than 3 or 4 feet tall. Palm tree would be a hard no.
FIRST ❤
Good morning! Nice time to get some shopping done on this rainy weekend
I love you!
Oops I meant to put that comment on the video comments haha
