How about 4WD 24-7 challenge any hybrid/EV 4x4 manufacturer to put one of their so called "capable" vehicles through the $1000 track or do the Tele track at the start of the season. That would be a true test of their product.
100% agree. Then we’ll see the truth.
Not gonna happen, maybe a test like they do with dual cab of the year but taking a stock vehicle through those tracks not happening
The $1000 track kicks even GQ's, GU's, and 80s from time to time so I don't think the dual cabs aren't gonna last through there😂
They took the new ranger though the telle track and it fell apart so it'll be even more finicky than the ordinary one
2 systems to power your vehicle. Why? Twice the maintenance and more to go wrong , doesn’t make sense to me, just over complicating things. It will get expensive when the 10-year battery life runs out , that will kill your resale.
Yep parallel hybrid are horrible. Just a more complicated vehicle that relies on burning petrol. It should be the other way around where it's primarily Electric Motor driven and just a petrol generator integrated. That's called a Series Hybrid.
I feel sorry for anyone that has not driven a V8 either a 70 series a 200series or a Y62 or any V8 that awesome feeling the noise no V6 turbo can replace it
Agree! I grew up in the 70's and currently own a 73 ford Bronco 5 ltr. There is nothing like stepping on the gas and hearing/feeling that engine roar!
facts. i had an 80 series and now drive a v8 4runner. i dont even care about the fuel issue lol
I think the big thing that people aren't recognizing is that it's no ordinary petrol v6 it's the same engine in the current GT-R. It sounds pretty damn nice, especially with a bit of custom pipe work
@@haterhater6409
Fair1 but what's the weight difference between a GTR and Patrol?.
Will the GTR be pulling 3.5t?
Increased stress doesn't help reliability.
if you dont buy them they will stop making them
@@calvinmulford6110 Hybrid vehicles are outselling traditional vehicles already
May as well figure out which ones are worth buying
@@Ktmfan450 - I think he was talking about the V8s - fleets buyers run far away from the "poor environmental performers" ESG means more to them than "the real bottom line" - the human capital. - Also the higher consumption (most fleet vehicles never tow heavy loads, so no "need" for the big motors, if that is necessary they buy a truck, not a passenger vehicle.) costs idling in traffic and running "bobtail".
@@Ktmfan450 that is simply not true hybrids are not selling more then traditional combustion engine vehicles at this point in time. I wonder if people who make these stupid comments have the same google as me.
The government is forcing them to lol!!!
@@TheBois434I beg to differ! Toyota offers hybrid options in most of their vehicles and also sells way more hybrids.
Yeah look im not too worried about the hybrid, no one in these comments want one. Its for those city blokes who dont take their car off road.
What a bunch of absurd nonsense. The dream overland rig is a SERIES Hybrid with a Straight 6 Petrol engine (basically a Barra). There is no mechanical connections between the engine and the wheels it's just a generator. Entirely driven by dual electric motors one for each axel. But no Automaker has the cojones to sell that, as it would make their current products obsolete.
Electric and hybrid aren't the same thing.
This one is an Electric.
Super charger at Gunshot coming soon.
This is why i got an ineos grenadier, no driver aids, and minimal ecus, solid axles. Built for purpose.
Patiently waiting for your guys to even acknowledge its existence little own test it offroad!
But B58 engine though, I wouldn't trust that in the middle of nowhere.
Every 4x4 after 2022 has too many settings and electrics
Every vehicle since 2000 more like it.
everything accept a 79 series lol
I'd say post 2000 is the yardline.
My mate's D22 Navs from 03-04 had 3 vp44 pumps have a electrickery brain fart meaning replacement.🤯🤬
Not to mention the Neutral Position Sensor issue.
Plus the 3 amigos on my mates Disco2.
You won't get that sass from my Series Landies 😂
Like I told my mate "if it isn't fitted, it can't fail!".😉
@@R.Sole88109 I have a 97 wrangler and will never sell it. It has an ECU but it’s just as easy to make it carbureted. These old 4.0 engines in these old jeeps just go and go.
@@drewstevens2244
Good on ya.👍🏻
I can respect old Jeeps.
After all, if it wasn't for two men in a field, playing with their Willys, Land Rover wouldn't have been invented.🤣
Battery replacement in about 10 years at a cost similar to an engine replacement means they are not a cost effective option long term, and unless your charging from green energy it's just bs.
Nah it's only a tiny 11.8kwh battery, soo about the same as the LABOR Cost for engine replacement by a dealer mech. Still not cheap.
Thanks jock for letting us know why the next landy is. A 97 disco 2
personally will never buy an ev or hybrid
Eventually you wont have a choice sadly...unless we all stand up to this "green" crap.
I have no interest in hybrids mainly BEVs then pure Petrol for specialized use case i.e Race Track or Towing.
The old timers were not wrong turbo failures are fairly common.
Shaun and Graham are looking pretty young these days 😂😂
There is NO TRUCKIN WAY that a hybrid or ev will ever be able to do anything that an ICE 4X4 will do in the outback.
What a bunch of absurd nonsense. The superior power train is SERIES HYBRID with a Straight 6 petrol engine, basically a Barra. NO mechanical connection between the engine and wheels. Dual electric motor driven only. Once automakers figure out that is the superior drive train for a 4x4. It's game over for Pure ICE 4x4. They are only too scared to sell it now in fear of making their current products obsolete.
yall should resurrect holden and design your own 4wd vehicles in oz
GM probably still hold the rights to the name.

Stop with the absurd nonsense. SUBMARINEs, SHIPs, WATERPUMPs, InSinkErator. There are soo many cases of electric motors being used with water. EVs have already proven SUPERIOR and crossing a RIVER. Heck many 4x4 BEVs have superior water fording height rating.
It’s really nice to drive these new cars. Very comfortable and very reliable day to day. But they won’t last out bush. Built with as much tech as possible for as cheap as possible and now built for every soccer mum takes away that toughness and longevity.
I’d be interested in seeing this channel take a Cyber Truck out for a review.
No one wants an ev’s in America I can only imagine how useless they will be way out in Australia
NOT an EV, it's just a Hybrid. Still burns petrol.
It might just be me but Jesse looks like he is reading off script at gunpoint talking about EV’s and the future of them, he looks very uncomfortable…!
Nah he just has no clue what he is talking about. That took a lot of effort to invent.
EV isn't the answer for everyone dusty dirt roads are my everyday travel could not see one lasting long here
I don't think they'll get a place on 4x4 tracks
Yet they work perfectly fine in MINEs and Timber Mills for the past several decades. Electric Drive is the one part of vehicle that is rock solid reliable in harsh environments. These PickUp (not even utes anymore) are not even Pure electric BEVs, just Hybrids which mostly rely on burning petrol. It's the petrol engine part which I worry about.
If those batteries catch on fire you're going to need more than water to put them out.
Or the EV itself could just SELF Extinguish the fire. The latest batteries are designed with fire resistant foam or putty between the cells. Then also far Less PLASTIC is used now mainly changing to metal or ceramic sheets for packaging. You end up having a battery that will self extinguish in many cases of fire, leaving HALF burnt battery pack. Who'd a thunk you could design a battery with less fire risk.
EVs won’t handle Australian off road conditions and hybrids will only be used in the city.
EVs can only go so far off road before they can’t get back.
@@liamgross7217 unlike cars with engines where clearly the fuel is "magic'd" out of thin air... Take some solar panels out into the bush, and you could stay their indefinately!
@@maxtorque2277 good luck. You might have to (Stay indefinitely)
Stop with the absurd nonsense, these are not even real EVs. Just parallel hybrids which mainly rely on burning petrol. Real BEVs or Series Hybrid are SUPERIOR at Off Roading and do way better job at mud and loose gravel than what ever you have driven. Even a Tesla Model 3 is freakishly good a climbing Sand Dunes. Your spam is just baseless assumptions.
@@Neojhun we were talking full EV. Leave the chat please.
No doubt the VK56 is a great engine, very very durable. But it has variable valve timing, high pressure direct injection etc....10 years ago everyone was saying it was a soft roader and would not last, independent suspension all round...ten years on and they are up the Cape over the Simpson and all over, nuff said. Australia is not he only harsh environment in the world. The Patrol is a legend in the middle east and much like the Y62, the Y63 will have had extensive development time in these areas and conditions. The middle east is a massive market compared to Australia and they will not jeopardise that. And can you buy a Landcruiser a Turbo? Cannot see anyone whining about the twin turbos under a 200 or 300 series, why whine about this? It will be tough, but you wont see it for while, at least in OZ
We wont be able to drive anywhere before long so being electric wont even matter..
I have a 2.0l Wildtrak kitted out and had the winch malfunction on the road. Long story short, I’ve seen what the guys mean by these things going haywire with low voltage. By the time we stopped, not even hazard lights were functional.
People that drive through mud and water will just own and maintain the vehicles that are currently on the roads.
Seeing what happened to that ranger up at cape York last week should be enough to deter anyone from driving a modern vehicle through deep water.
These new electric utes are clearly designed for driving on the highway, and dirt tracks at the most.
Boys! What happened to the fails?!? Was keen to see if I was gonna be on there with a broken CV! 🤣🍻
More Junk.
While not everyone goes bush, it still shows how these cars act when things go wrong, and even without going bush, things go wrong.
Regarding Electric cars the only way to prove their capabilities is to test drive it on the Tele track
Ranger Ev +Aussie bush = A Bush Fire .
Nah that would be a Jeep Pentastar. Luckily very few of those exist here.
That New Hybrid Ranger will be Fantastic. 100kg battery, 30 kg Genny and 10kg of fuel to run the genny You will be left with a payload of a suzuki Jimny. 2 people and 1/2 a tank of fuel you'll go for miles. LMAO NOT !!
Ranger battery is 11.8kwh that is less than 100kg, 90kg including protective ARMOR. It will have very little effect on payload. Not much difference to the Pure Petrol version.
Reading facts off google is somthing anyone can do
this EV push needs to stop
WHAT YOU SAID ❤
Totally agree 👍
It won’t. The goal is for everyone to be electricity/grid dependent
@@Jake_Hamlin You must have a Hydrocarbon cracker in your backyard
@@Jake_HamlinHaving hybrid/EV makes you less dependent on a grid of petrol stations lol
Where do these EV's get their recharge? We all know solar and wind doesn't recharge these vehicles 😂..
More coal and hydro power necessary for sure.
GAS, still way cleaner than Petrol and especially Diesel.
No fails this month, I know I submitted one for my GU

Lmao.... my TD5 gets me to the same places as a V8.... I just go further on a single tank.
They do more damage to environment making these batteries then what a diesel car does 🤦♂️🤦♂️
And how do they dispose these batteries after a 5yr last
Battery will outlast the life of the truck and no they dont don more damage than a diesel. You're just repeating what everybody that dont inform themselve say.
🤔Have you even done any research on how the batteries are made? @@FrankMcEnnis
WTF the WARRANTY on many EV batteries is 8 years. Why you got to make up absurd bullocks?
@@Neojhun let me know how that goes in 8 years...
Yeah, that's not true. Just so you know.
Not a fan of hybrids or EVs. I just can’t understand how all that electrical system can be reliable or easily repaired when far from home and civilization. I am lucky to have a low km GU patrol wagon built and dedicated for camping/touring etc and fully engineered for lift, tyres, gvm etc. I have stocked parts including panels and motors to keep her and mates GU patrols going for years to come. Glad I did it because I don’t see myself (or my mates) selling them if these EV and Hybrids are the options facing off-roaders into the future. I’d be hanging onto the battle tested and supported landcruisers and patrols if you own them.
The small print- using this hybrid vehicle off-road will void warranty. 😂
Also goes for the standard utes as well, that's just the manufacturers having tight purses as usual
No! The electric motor seats inside the gearbox and replaces both alternator and starter it's much simpler and beefier system! The Prius has been doing that for decades.
Stop with that insane nonsense, that is blatantly false.
It's happening in the states too. Going with smaller engines then putting turbos on them which just increases failure points and maintenance costs go up. Ev and hybrids are actually going away here. Not selling. Ford just dropped it's ev trucks because the cost is higher than they can sell them for and aren't willing to keep losing money rightfully so.
4wders aren’t the market or the future for these cars. It’s all for city folk and pure black top use. Absolute shit feeling but sadly we’re a dying breed
Is jesse related to the drummer from parkway drive? They look and talk the same
Lmfao! The V8 isn't dead. They tried that shit here in North America... now all the big auto makers are looking at full lots with crap nobody wants to buy. And they're all scrapping their EV plans.
You should hit up Ford to "test" a new Ranger Hybrid with a run to the cape! Remember which vehicle had not problems on your last run to the Cape. It rhymes with Land Rover. KISS
Jesse, what's going on with your tool box in the back ground? The top two drawers are sinking on the right side.
Hybrid Ranger will tow better. It will be heavier than a standard vehicle and the combined torque of a hybrid is superb. Instant torque. Durability is an unknown though. But its called progress people.
With Jessy now driving a BMW powered Patrol, has he also thought to adopt proper BMW driving habits?
As for EV/hybrids, even just in general, not specifically 4wd, I'm quite on the fence about them. If I would be forced to go for fomething like that, I would go with a Hybrid that charges off the on-board petrol engine. Partly because just like with a normal ICE vehicle 5-10 minutes at the pump when it's low on go-go juice, and you've got full range again.
And partly because of the (perceived?) reasurance that if either motor goes cactus, if something still works, you could potentially still limp it to a mechanic.
And if it's just for on road use, I think a vehicle that alternates between the electric and petrol motors depending on battery charge/power needed/... can be acceptable.
Dad's got a Toyota C-HR hybrid like that since two years, Says if not treated too harsh, he can get 4-liters per 100 out of it on the highway. And that's not holding back on speed. Just consistent driving.
And as the time is coming closer when he'll be able to retire, he's thinking about getting rid of one of our vehicles when it's time. And he already said if he has to pick between the Yota and mom's Peugeot 2008 with just ICE, most likely the Yota is staying.
Only thing that's been wrong with it so far was a rattle in the driver's door, that even the mechanic couldn't find what it was, or why it eventually went away, despite driving the car extensively for a day.
I think with the exit of the V8 and going to hybrid I think its not going to hold up with in the bush drama at all
On the V8 topic. Appart from towing, anything a V8 can do off road a 4 or 6 cylinder could do just as well. Power and torque is no match for good line choice and driver skill.
People buy hybrids for city and inner urban areas because of the fuel saving in traffic. I’m sure some of these people will want to take their hybrid 4x4 to remote places, time will show up problems if there are any with the new tech.
Fact: the most unreliable Range Rover is the hybrid.
Perentie saves the trip. Simple tech wins for reliability 😉
Mean while me cursing in my n/a 2.8 ln106 that just runs forever
Now you're going to have Prius driver's driving Ford rangers and they can't drive for s***
How many tradies these days use electric tools, battery tools are the thing now.
I mean yeah a PHEV Ute won't be as capable as an old Patrol or Landcruiser. But imagine a Hybrid Ranger and being able to use all that electricity for touring, powering your 12V Setup, without the need to buy additional Lithium Batteries. I mean it could be kinda useful for a normal tourer.
You can always hate on new technology but we have to accept change and make the best of it.
Agree with Jocko. Hybrids are great for someone who works around town. A great savings for your business. Would probably work for some light off-road touring, too. I would never take one anywhere 4wd 24/7 goes, though. " losing its brain inFruit Loop mode"😂😅😂😅😂
Aww no more V8s...
Y'all sound American 😂
You're having fun in your Hiluxes and 80 series cruisers, right?
There is currently no reason to make a snorkel for a hybrid truck
My biggest fears with the hybrids/electric offroading is the fire risk. Its something that could lead you to being just F'ed or even worse starting a large scale Forrest fire. I would have to have a full installed fire suppression system.
As a Ford fan, I would never buy an EV for off road use.
EV is not the way! Lithium is horrible, its worse on environment just to manufacture one battery than a diesel in its whole life. Not to mention charging and all that bull.
Me and the wife loves you guys. We would love to see a trip with vehicles between 1990 and 2000. Pajeros, Landies, Isuzu. Nothing against Toyotas and Nissans, just want to see something different. Old school mechanical machines. Thanks for all the hard work your team puts into these videos, we do appreciate it, love from South Africa.

Nissan need to bring back a single cab or space cab patrol ute..
Enough of these useless family wagons..
Y63 if they have got rid of the y62 front suspension then they could compete with 300 series so can be altered suit bullbar and winch combination 😱
Reliability will be the major issue with hybrid/electric 4x4. Also capabilities. Will they perform just as good as the 4by's we are so use to 🤔
Still prefer my manual 4wd on any given Sunday..apart from some bad operator error choices,it's reliable does the job, never let's me down...given 😊 some of the tracks 👣 it's been too.
Electric as a drivetrain offers quite a bit that should be useful off road. Heaps of torque for example. The problems, however, make it unfavorable, at least with the current state of electric technologies. From the added weight of batteries to the hassles of fault tracing in the bush means that no one wants one.
Wow Jesse's faceial expression says everything. If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all. Looks like there is soo much more he wants to say but cant
Jocko be careful what you wish for! Land rover models after the old school 110 turned their owners into mechanics on a daily basis with constant issues being mainly electrical and suspension.
Can't say anything about this new one but..... I have a 22 next gen 2l bi-turbo and have not had one problem with it.. tows like a boss and I'm not easy on my off loading either...
All the newish vehicles are breaking too fast. Manufacturers will make a different version every few years because they don't test their vehicles over a longer period of time.
The issue with the Y63 will be the V6 TT cannot run on 91 like the Y62, so good luck taking that around Australia and i will keep my Y62
Jocko's Land Rover love affair a Alby Mangels looking Sasquatch type deal ... he was the cook their up on the cape so it was channelling the bush tucker man as well
I think ev 4x4 are the biggest waste of money it’s an out right stupid idea they would be only mall crawlers
Take them out! POS wouldn’t make it anywhere we seen you guys go! But it would be hilarious to see them fail miserably!!!! The only problem is water crossing definitely short out!! Love you guys stay safe and most definitely stay frost! The fear factor is if out say Cape York and that thing caught fire you will never put it out!! Australia under fire no joke and towing drop your range by half!!
I can't see hybrid lasting out in the bush personally , anyway keep up the great work guys love watching these vids
Interesting with EV or Hybrid powertrain, i wonder whats manufacturers reponse are? Or details in owners manual? Wonder more 4WD owners have older rig instead new 4WD? What happens if old rig or tractor on farm needs jump start can these electric powertrains jump start old rigs?

We used to say a Land Rover was Soldier proof. In other words, you do want a complicated vehicle out the bush. The Army found out with the Mecedes G3. Break down has to go on a flat bed and take it home.
I would love to not only see another Land Rover Perentie build by a Jeep build added to the 4wd24-7 fleet.

Hybrid utes are fine as long as they aren't the only offering if youre using them off road you clearly bought the wrong spec vehicle
Pathetic you don’t start with the tyranny. 🤦♂️🤡🌎
If I am taking a hybrid off road in taking a land rover on a trailer with me. Water and electricity have never got on well and I can't see these working
The new v6 motors are better then the old mang mang commodore's. And if the nissan sounds like the there new v6s it will be better then that thong slap y62
Bought a 2011 Prado 150 series 2 and love it from new, Toyota sill no 1 in big 4wd
Eventually EV's will be like phones, To old to do the latest updates so you'll need to buy a newer model every few years. if you don't update then your ev is unsafe for the roads. great way to make money lol
That analogy is actually so redundant. Its like saying, "Soooooon all outboards on your boats will be like phones!!!" If you care for the real combustion necessity then you will stop accepting your fate, and actually have a spine against it.
It will get to the point where only private markets will be avle to habdle it. At a loss because the gov is going to fine them for it. Private people buying and keeping and selling and making parts for ICEs. Meanwhile the gov will fine everyone for it. Even here in the US. Gov dictating the market has a word and it used to be as bad as nazi .@hhhllkk88
Yeah sure folk are gonna fork out $50k every few years for a new 4WD? A car company that has that business model is gonna go busy very quickly.
100% right. technology eats itself. Be like trying run modern apps on Windows 95.
@proximaone1350 not when you don't have a choice bwcsuse it's mandated by the state. What are you going to do buy another model that can't be updated? At the very least you'd have to being it back to the dealer to get upgraded loke the older tesla.
Tech companies do this already. Apple lost a lawsuit over it. Purposely slowing down older models to force consumers to buy new. Now they just load your phone with so much shit the memory gets full and you again don't have a choice but to buy new, or jail break it so you can delete the stuff it doesn't let you delete
Jocko nailed it with the rule number one in towing principles. Tow vehicle heavier than trailer!
Go and use an angle grinder or inverter welder in a rain storm and you soon learn a lesson about could happen with that ranger
The legos are hillarious! Great job kiddo's
How fast does the battery die pulling 3.5 ton?
