I had an emotionally abusive stepmom myself. When I became an adult, I cut ties with my father just for that reason. My mom warned him that if he didn't stop her (the stepmom) that when I got older, I wouldn't have anything to do with him. To me the male figure in my life was my grandpa. It was hell having to visit him on every other weekend. As soon as I was old enough to make my own choice, I immediately cut ties. I've never really heard of a situation of good stepparents tbh. Also, I'm only 29 about to be 30 in 2 days and I have not only high blood pressure but also AFIB (Atreal Fibrillation) on top of that I have other issues that affect my heart. And this woman makes having high blood pressure seem like a death sentence. High blood pressure among people her age is pretty common aswell. Ngl I teared up tho.

Mentally, meaning they are basically destroying your self esteem/ mental health. And emotional, meaning they find a way to threaten you or become really controlling. Hope this helps you understand.
