Now, admittedly it's been a while since I've played, but last I checked, lava can't turn water into obsidian anyways. It'd turn it into cobblestone. And the only thing that turns into obsidian is lava source blocks when touched by water.

Water source -> Stone
Water (non-source) -> cobblestone
Lava source -> obsidian

@@coolguy4709no, not water source -> stone. Stone generates when lava approaches from the top of the water whether it’s source or flowing. Cobblestone generates when the liquids approach each other from the sides. And then obviously obsidian generates when water flows into the lava source block.
The reason this happens is because the game considers bubble columns to be a separate block

On top of that, for obsidian to form, the water should be on top.
This feels like a minecraft version of leidenfrost effect where the bubble pushes the lava enough between water and itself that they dont touch each other

I used this a few times for hidden bases. It's a neat trick that keeps anybody out who can't bathe in lava
You could even use dispensers to place the lava when you get up

This is probably because mojang forgot to code the lava turning into obsidian/stone when the water is a column.
nope. If you look closely the lava and the water never hit each other.
There is a small layer of "bubbling animation" in between. (to fit the animation, the top most water block is shorter.)
No dipshit if that was the case the ocean and lakes would be immune.
What happened is spmeone forgot to consider bubble water as water and since water and lava have been around for like ever and bubble water is fairly new theynever went back to LAVA code to add in the new lines of code to inculde bubble water.
Becuase if you know ANYTHING about code is that computer do EXACTLY what we tell them to do.
Problem is sometimes we dont know how to tell them that or we say some ambiguous thing and expect them to understand which they do not.
If tou want a robot to pick up the trash.
You have to say pick up item 1 pick up item 2 pick up item 3
Or pick up all items in sector 1.
Or scan sector 1 reference sector 1 database if new items are in sector 1 remove offending items.
You cant juat say hey lava turn water into stone and ALLL water turn to stone.
Since IN CODE bubble water is an entirely different block they have to add in that distinction into lava code

The reason is that lava tries to turn minecraft:flowing_water , but bubble columns are minecraft:bubble_column instead of
