  • Another birthday to be celebrated @zoo_planckendael !
This time for the family of black lemurs. Mama Kimmie and papa Oreo had offspring in 4 consecutive years. Wifi, Xhuna, Yuna and this year, another baby, of which the gender and the name with a Z are still unknown. (Wifi moved to another zoo meanwhile)Today it's Xhuna's 2nd birthday.
Again, l didn't know this when l recorded them during my visit on 14/05/24. At first, they were sitting all together. A complicated bunch of heads and tails. 😉😄 Later on, the baby showed its cute face. 🥰👍
Black lemurs, you may wonder. Only the males are black. The females are brownish-red. After a few weeks, the baby will change to black... if it's a boy.
The black lemurs share the walk-through enclosure with the ring-tailed lemurs. The lemurs aren't afraid at all of the people walking there. Now with the new baby, mama Kimmie is more careful to wonder around.
Of course, it's not allowed to feed them or touch them.

Aww! The little one is such a baby! The tail on the ring tailed one is long. Nice video!

As you would have heard, a volunteer was keen to share information. In Dutch and in English... all normal here in Flanders! Even French and German, if necessary.
He was saying that the zookeepers had watched the baby jumping around by itself already. The lemurs mostly eat vegetables and greens from the garden and flowers.
I was really early, so the family was still half asleep together. About 20 minutes later, they started moving, and the baby appeared. Papa Oreo keeps more to himself.
This is the extended version of my reel on Instagram.
Thank you for your comment, Emily! 😀👍

Yeah, ring-tailed lemurs have not exactly a steady pace walking on the ground. They are better in balance on branches.😅
Thank you for your comment, Traci! 😀👋

@@carinagryp6264 that's very interesting! But I was referring to the lemur drinking out of the bowl at the end of the video. Looked like what people do after drinking too much lol!
