The "back to life" series is my favorite. I wish they were longer, just video of you guys working would be awesome. i've heard about them forever, but that's the first time i've seen a slusher actually working. That's so great you went in the stubby mine! haha.
I've actually run a jack-leg drill. Imagine the "ground pounding" of a Harley mixed with the high-RPM whine of a chainsaw. One of the top ten coolest pieces of equipment I've ever run!
I have some good footage of it from when we're opening up the station and I have room to stand to the side. You can finally see what it is doing at the end... The footage from standing near the controls is limited because it puts out so much water vapor and so it is impossible to see what is happening in the distance. Tough for the operator too! You have to do everything by feel.
Can't tell you how much I enjoy this series ... so awesome watching this mine come back to life .. and all the little side projects that go with it! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I love this series of videos. I always look forward to an update on bringing the abandoned mine back. You guys are awesome! Thanks for sharing with us.
That ever so gentle back rub was quite refreshing 😁 lol. The way that drill/ impact was taking apart shows that that's not the first-time nor the last time. Right up my alley.... fix it wear it out repeat, y'all got a great team. Be safe
This is awesome absolutely awesome. I’ve worked in a friends drift mine working drifts into underground channel, watching the rock drill and jackleg in the previous video brought me back about ten years ago when I was using one. Setting the fuse off and hearing the charges go off absolutely awesome, good times when I use to help do that.
damn that guy is probably one of the best leg anchors in the industry........ unfortunately there just isn't much demand for this kind of task.....i miss that place
This channel should be a beacon to all young men throughout our country that live a life of violence and hardship. Do as these men do, yes there's hardship but the gain is well worth it. These men exemplify what Theodore Roosevelt spoke about where we as Americans began and our future and if unhindered by ill-conceived regulations may prosper.
We could use an Ian or Othias right about now to do a detailed breakdown of that drill, yeah I know it's not Forgotten Weapons or C&R channel but Hey it would still be Cool to have someone walk us through it!!! 🤠👍
CRAZY how much that boom reverberates. Rad seeing all of this in action. Same style of drilling and blasting for the past 100 years. Just slightly safer.
I like the series bringing a gold mine back to life. I have a tip for you if you want to waterproof your wooden beams take boiled linseed oil and apply it to the would just like you were painting beam with the boiled linseed oil and now your wooden beams are waterproof, it needs to be applied once or twice a year I use this method to winterize the tiki statues I make. You can do this to the wood before you put it in the mine, also you can take Uncle Henry's tar and apply it to the top and the bottom of your wooden beams. Good luck with your gold mining. Also you should have some guests, on your mind show, like Dan, better known as boxy from mine explorers.
The availability of really good helmet lights and generally better lighting must be godsend. I can't imagine doing this by candle or carbide light. I have an old carbide helmet light and it's better than nothing but barely...
Ive seen a Polinesian dude catching flying bugs of that sort of density to make into patties Ooh Anfo gogo boom boom, great to see you're all moving towards something albeit a little further away than you anticipated, it would be awesome to explore past those collapses...hmm you could wack the slusher in there and clear the cave-ins out ... I know pie in the sky Thanks for sharing
Jackleg disassembly was interesting. The splined shaft in there, that I am assuming drives the rotating portion, looks a lot like an input/output shaft from a HD manual transmission or transfer case. It is pretty country up there for sure. The bugs...well..we would have forgiven you if ya passed on that, LOL.
Can't stand when Nats, and mosquitoes get so thick you breathe them in and they're literally in every opening in your head before you get away. Use to happen when I use to fish for big bass all night in northeast texas. Be going along on trolling motor, just casting quietly, and all of a sudden you were in clouds of seemed like millions of mosquitoes just buzzing all around you. Then few seconds of kicking trolling motor up a little faster, and they're no where to be heard. So back to peaceful fishing, and only thing that gave you a hint that they were still around. Is the bats flying around would hit your line as you worked the lures back from where you cast it to. Occasionally you could see them fly across the face of the moon, because we fished the full moon in the heat of the Texas summers here.
I’m a downhole driller at the mine I work at We use Alpha also and also use emulsion on our wet holes. After 27 years I’m retiring from mining in March. Gonna miss the explosives
I did see a patch of oxidation in that test adit. They may not have found anything, or else not enough to justify further work, but I bet putting a few core shots in the general regiou would show at least something...
How much does the drill weight when in use? Do you have a cut off point of when can't run mine anymore for snow? Are you making profit yet from mine? Awesome stuff!
I agree with Porty1119 above me there, depends on the machine & leg. 110-140lbs is typical for the stuff I've seen. I've noticed when drills get hot as hell or cold as the devil it makes them even heavier... somebody explain that sorcery.
The slusher and Chinaman chute were a good call for that drift. I may have already asked this, but do you have a guard installed to protect the operator in the event a wire rope snaps?
Did you ever do an update on the results of the core drilling? I assume you are drifting the new section to something you found. I need to drive an exploratory tunnel on a vein I just uncovered this summer.

The safety fuse sets off a cap which initiates the detcord main (should be tied into a ring - I don't like horseshoe mains as the risk of cutoff is higher). The detcord initiates the shock tube (also known as Nonel) in each hole, which then initiates the booster which itself finally detonates the ANFO. Electric caps are extremely dangerous as any stray current from static electricity or RF can initiate them. Electronic detonators are safer but very expensive. Some large companies like them but I've been thoroughly unimpressed.
.@@Porty1119 Thanks for that. You have an interesting explanation. I've used electric caps underground for many years with zero problems - they are simple and reliable, IMHO. Static electricity shouldn't be an issue in that mine anyway! RF is not an issue underground, either.
You missed a golden opertunity to do a horror ending, because that really was an unreal amount of bugs. "There's so many of them.... in my ears... in my eyes... *cough cough* in my mouth *cough wheeze* starting to bite... *stumble* _cut to black_

I can't imagine how loud the drilling would be without ear protection. Beautiful views outside! Thanks Justin and Crew! It's all so interesting!
Oh, the drill is absolutely deafening! Even with heavy hearing protection, it is loud. Glad you're still finding this series interesting...
I was wondering if it just sounds loud on my phone.
@@jacka5676 sounds loud on mine too
You feel those just as much as you hear them. The floor vibrates even ten feet away from the driller.

Mooooore! Why don’t more miners do this! So many people want to follow along . This is amazing.
They probibly don't have a handy Justin to film it.
and its heavily frowned upon. but get yourselfs some j bolfs and chain and a raise ladder. no need to be standing on a leg

I adjusted my volume accordingly all the way up . I ❤ noisey and boom. Need more volume on the boom . Ha ha ha. And remember anfo is your friend
Seems you would use an impact wrench on all those stuck fasteners.
Thats really cool to see. Have you guys found gold yet or are you still in waste rock?

I'm curious is the target ore body be above (a raise?) or below (a winze?) the current work area?
Seems like the slusher is much more productive than the scooper.
I definitely prefer the slusher and I don't think I'm the only one in this bunch that feels that way.
Don’t think I have ever drilled a drift round that narrow
Can you show us the mine that the water is coming from?
How much does the drill weight when in use? Do you have a cut off point of when can't run mine anymore for snow? Are you making profit yet from mine? Awesome stuff!

Damn good question! Had an MSHA inspector write up just that, until we added some expanded metal to guard against a broken cable.
with each blast about how many feet deeper of the tunnel does it open?
Excellent Question?!? 🤔
Did you ever do an update on the results of the core drilling? I assume you are drifting the new section to something you found.

Why do you choose burning fuse over electric caps?
