- ABC News’ Steve Osunsami spoke with Newbern, Alabama Mayor Patrick Braxton, who claims in a federal lawsuit that former mayor Woody Stokes III contests his legitimacy and has locked him out of office.
Ive heard about this story.He won fair and square and the now former mayor is still there and will not leave.True definition of a racist sore loser.
Is his name trump?
We have Federal issues along this line, too. The old formers did not want to leave and tried to set up their own government. This should not happen in tje USA.

My ex husband is from Newbern and Mr. Braxton is his cousin. I don't know him personally but I'm not surprised by any of this. I'm proud of those black residents for finally speaking up.

While its not mentioned here, its important to note that this has had fatal consequences.
Braxton is a volunteer firefighter for the area as well as mayor. Since this all started, he's been locked out of the firehouse as well as city hall. This resulted in the death of an elderly woman who experienced cardiac arrest, as he was delayed in getting the defibrillator from the department.

And the lady who's working with him that they interviewed also had her home firebombed, on top of the letters filled with racial slurs and threats.

These secret meetings are held often in a lot of peoples homes or places of employment. So what can you do, are what should you do. You figure out a way to say hey, enough is enough. Get the law involved if it's possible. Stand up for what is right! It appears to me that a huge problem still exists in Alabama. I've been to Alabama three times in my life. Twice for my niece's college basketball game 🏀 and one for a small business venture where ladies could purchase good night attire and novelties for the bedroom. It was hosted by a friend of mine, not my business though, anyway the Caucasian women that came to they're friends house were so much fun! They never showed any signs of prejudice or hate, but that was one part of Alabama though. I've heard that it was a racist place but what place isn't? I see the world much differently now that everyone has literally come out to say that they hate me and other black people simply because we we're born with this beautiful chocolate colored skin. I feel for the black mayor who never got a real fair chance to serve and I hope that he will still pursue the job and get legal help on the matter. Someone decided long ago that they would let us live, but not with a life of wealth but with a lifetime of pain and suffering 💔.

As someone who was born, raised, and still lives in Alabama (Tuskegee)...I am not shocked this kind of stuff happens!!! There are so many circumstances that continue to this day that affect blacks' ability to hold office or hinder any kind of political influence in Alabama.

I'm black and was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. Anytime i go back home, i hear people complain about the things that they do not have enough of. Change will only come when you make it happen, sitting down complaining isn't going to get the job done and i'm happy to see someone like Patrick Braxton take a stand in his town to make a difference. I just wish younger people would have the knowledge, courage, and will power to get up and do something, its always our parents or someone older making these changes.
I take it that a deep seated fear among blacks in cities like these go back to the time of slavery. Otherwise how could a town with a roughly 80% black population not have overthrown this oppressive system a long time ago?
The problem with Birmingham? It began as NEW SOUTHERN money. Montgomery was untouchable due to OLD SOUTHERN money. Then, Birmingham elected a Black Mayor, who then, like this small town Mayor did…appointed his ENTIRELY Black administration. What happened to Birmingham? They filed for bankruptcy.
