I love Bowmanville zoo I want there as a kid and took my son there for years it is sad what happened to it and I miss it all the time when I drive by it
This makes me so sad because now it looks like nothing just from looking from the outside of the zoo, I wish that it was still there so I could remember being there when I was little. About to cry.
I remember sitting watching the shows they’d put on in the auditorium, rats used to run on the ropes on the ceiling to the stage. I remember the tigers and elephants used to stand and jump on the metal stools in that room. White horses would go around the stage and preform

this was posted on my birthday lol, so many great memories heres espically with limba i like 6 at the time i first met limba. one morning i woke up and my mom told me she passed to cancer and i cried all day.
Great to see this all again in your video. Other than the tigers, my main childhood memory of this place was breaking free from my daycare to finally get on that yellow slide - as everyone else was boarding the yellow school bus to go back home. Got in trouble, but had no regrets (though I always thought it was more grand in scale than this. Guess that's the perspective to a 6-year old, haha) :)
One mo thing I forgot to tell you what an amazing video you shot of the Bowmanville Zoo..I enjoyed it brought back a flood of great memories...Thank you
I just would like to add The Bowmanville Zoo was at one time years ago a beautiful amazing place..It was the oldest privately owned zoo in North America & many of the Animals were featured in movies, commercials & mags...Unfortunately Mr. Hackenberger was caught on video abusing one of the animals...Former owners would be devastated they were very very great folks...
The large field with wooden fence was for some of the larger antelopes, and near the playground was mainly birds, lemurs, and smaller animals. When crossing bridge petting zoo would be to the left and elephant rides to the right, which was across from a snack shack and lion cages. Elephants and giraffes were near back of property near the auditorium Frequented that zoo often as a kid.
Hi Dave. I remember this story. Never been though. Lots of stuff. That playground was creepy. Glad the vandals haven't been there. Thanks. I enjoyed the video. March 2021.
I love watching the Salmon, we have a fish ladder here for them to swim upstream. One year I actually got a video of one jumping up the ladder. It was really cool.
Some of the animals went to the Killman Zoo, I THINK. Killman Zoo is more rehabilitation for animals. They only have animals that would never survive in the wild and they rehab them.
My family and I still have pics of our visit from 2011, and I'm here after recently unearthing said pics. It's a shame it had to be run out of business because of what its owner did...
I just watched the video of what Mr Hackenberger did to that tiger & he should have that done to him!!!..I hope is in jail or worse..Unbelievably one of the cruelest things I've seen...F.U!!!!!!!!!!!
He still owned the property at the time the video was posted that place was reopened summer 2017 I forget what it was renamed “Clarington family something” .... it has been purchased by the municipality I believe as there are current plans to make it a nature park with. Ike trails and walking paths

This video brought back so many memories I forgot I had, I went here countless times in the summer as a kid. Thank you.
That's great. Thanks for watching

The small building near the carousel used to be one of many "cabins" where people visiting the former Tourist Camp could stay in.
Great location, and it looks like a really nice piece of property, what a waste. Thank you for sharing😊❤
it will apparently be turned into a public park soon!
@@Freaktography That's great, at least they're not sticking condos or a load of cookie cutter homes there😊

Most of the Zoo land is going to be turned into a park sometime in the future.
Somehow missed the notification. Glad I checked in. That Merry Go Round will only get creepier with time. Neat find.
Thanks, ya the merry go round was worth the trip!
Desertify Urbex: Abandoned Places I went in a few days ago at night. It’s really eerie
The rides had kids on them as recently as fall 2017 .... they have been “questionable” for a decade

WOW. I have very faint memories visiting here in 2009 or 2010. I remember that splashpad area and the tiger exhibit more than anything else.
Very cool!
That was the best Zoo ever
Head up to anyone who may want to explore here, THE AMPITHEATRE IS SUPER RISKY - The property owners home is literally maybe 60 Meters away.

Koo Place❤
Interesting Video. Not a fan of the commentary style.
Glad this place is closed. It was a prison where every inmate was innocent.
