    We have tons of Quercus velutina here in Taney County of Southwest Missouri

    @2:34 @3:07 vocabulary of the week:
    glabrous v. pubescent (velutina)
    @4:00 quercus rubra has smaller (and flatter) acorn caps and larger acorns.

    I had no idea black oak leaves could be so thin! I could have definitely misidentified a black oak as a southern red oak before this

      Southern red (Q. falcata) always has a bell-shaped leaf base--that's my go-to character for that species. I also always look at 5-10 leaves if possible (esp. with oaks) since they vary so much!
