Thanks so much for sharing with us your sparring match! I love the three sectional staff and it looks like so much fun what you guys were doing! Keep up the good work!
Spear is the King of Weapons because it could resolve more situation and less of effort to use. But you can try non stop on Three section staff even this is more technical and difficult tool on combat test to spear.
The three section staff is the most difficult weapon to master in Eastern Martial Arts. The vast majority of people would not be abble to demonstrate it with any kind of proficiency.
If you ever do a followup, there is reasonable succes when uing the sanjiegun against polearms by keeping the middle section out forward and using it to probe and swipe the tip. if they retract, swap to big spin swing and return to middle section extended. I also found that mangual techniques pair very nicely.
As i said in the video, i am not a master heh but i manege to hit my oponent a few times : D but still, spears are anoying almost for every weapon. It is difficult to beat that simple, long, fast and precise weapon. Do you have some videos (yours or from yt) where i can see 3section staff in real sparring(not demonstrations or drills) so i can see how it should be used with good succes? If you know some...can you share it here? I would love to see it and learn from it : ) I would call my sparring a succefull one because i was expecting that i will the only one who going to die all the time hehe in my old sparrig video vs longsword it was more practical then here vs spear: ) Thanks for watching!
Awesome! I appreciate testing through sparring bc everyone wants to say this or that, and teach this or that w/o testing in sparring conditions. Obviously skills can decide who wins, but at least an audience can see the relationship the weapons have, and what techniques may or may not work.
Thanks! In the past I also did 3 section staff Vs longsword, it was the first time ever my friend and I tried this weapon in sparring. LINK: ua-cam.com/video/KqpE0hGFy3Q/v-deo.htmlsi=uBq_jOPOmN378ire we also get some cool moments there :D And you are right, people like to teach or show things and swear that things work but never tried in real sparring when somebody really wants to hit you back and not get hit. Ofc everything can work in a demo when one person freezes after an attack and gives you time to do your magic "hokus pokus". * I do not say that drilling is bad... it is an important part of the training but in the sparring you can learn more and see what works and what not. I know that I am not a master...and I am not even close to being "good".... Buuuuut.... Many "masters" never even thought about sparring...hehe
3 section staves are more of a less than lethal, carry on weapon for personal self defense, while spears are battle field weapons of course the San Jie Gun is at an disadvantage. The San Jie would fare much better against other side weapons like a single sword.
Great video :) One thing is, if you get attacked in close range, not talking about closing the distance against a spear, which is easier said than done, but rather if the fight starts at closer range... then the versatility of the 3 sectional staff comes into play. You can use either medium or short distance. The fix looks okay, shit happens. I can still use it although it was better to start out with, but it's only one I use once in a blue moon for content.
Thanks! As allways - as you said "easier said than done" heh. It was a fun TRY, buut spears are to good for duels heh. Against longsword 3section staff was pretty cool : D I am so sorry that your weapon breaked on me (IrON FoREARM xD). I fixed it now that you can still use it fir demos or sparrings- i used this tape on the top because this foam breaked there. I will give it back to you soon: )
@@MonkeyFist It's okay, you gave me that sparring version for free. I will only use this one for demos and solo practise anyways, otherwise I'm using the sparring one... and I have accomplished my goal of having one 3 sectional staff sparring video (vs Shinobi), so I'm not in a hurry to do it again :) other priorities rank higher. By the way, maybe we could meet this upcoming weekend and do something with that ATM or something :) perhaps use my pivo to catch the action :)
Yes spear is hard to beat ,I like the flex as it's hard block and time , maybe flail would do well against it , I would also like to see different thrown weapons vs long weapons like spear , as far as the staff it's pretty cool that you can carry it folded up and get that kind of reach , ide like to see the staff go against meteor hammer !! Great fighting , did you make that staff yourself ? I've never seen another one
Yea, spears are anoying vs almost every weapon heh it is difficult to beat something what is long, fast and precise (not NOT passible but just difficult). I think that meteor hammer vs 3section staff would bon that epic as you think it could be... Propably we going to use 80% of time to untie them from each other hehe. Buut maybe one day we can try ; ) This 3section staff i borrowed from Zen-Dragon. Buut i also maked one myself for him, where i used strings instead of chains, because he wanted a more "sparring friendly" version.
Three section staff was the weapon used for the emperor bodyguards in the song dynasty only the most skilled soldiers could use it...a spear can be used for anyone
Actually, once foam longsword broked my finger: p after that i invested in gloves heh People forgeting that under this 1-2cm foam it is something hard... And when you get hit then you going to feel this hard part because this foam will "work". Normaly We are training with minimum gear- face mask and gloves... And we train like that with foam/woden and syntetic weapons...so scratches, bruses and bluemarks it is just a part of every training hehe
If you hit yourself, it just means that you are not good with the weapon. I think that's the main reason you loose, not the difference between the weapons themselves.
I think i am pretty comfortable with 3 section staff. when i play around with it - but sparring when you want to hit somebody and somebody want to hit you then it is a little bit diffrent than drills or demonstration. and spear it is "the king of the weapons" so it is difficult to deal with it - it doesn't matter what (hand)weapon you have... BUT! you are right, i am not good with it. because i do not practice fighting with this weapon - but i like to play with it and do fency stuff and i am not afraid to pressure test in sparring : ) thank you for your comment and have a great day!
@@MonkeyFist I hate fighting against a spear myself, but fighting against a three-piece staff could be worse. The worst for me is actually a two-piece staff. I'm not a pro myself, I'm just saying that if your own weapon ever hurts you, and your opponent's doesn't hurt him, your opponent is more skilful and would probably win, nothing else matters. Like, he should've had something he hurts himself with occasionally as well to make this fight fair, you know.

3 section staff is fun to play with but it's not a real weapon of war, spear is just to fast and direct
It is allways fun to try new things : D we can learn from it : D

cool sparring like the weapons and from my own experience even a foam sword or spear is still dangerous so if people that are only toys ... well 🤷♂

Spear is stronger than 3section staff.
@@山田一郎-z3d yup, there is no better weapon than a spear 🔥🔥
