On Feb. 2, A'ja Wilson’s No. 22 jersey will be retired at the University of South Carolina.
Sitting in the front row will be Wilson’s father, Roscoe Wilson, who has guided her rise since the first day she picked up a basketball. Ahead Sunday's ceremony, he spoke to Andscape writer Sean Hurd about his daughter’s historic South Carolina tenure, her humble beginnings in the sport and his abundant pride watching her achieve her dreams.

She is a WINNER, Mr. Wilson! Great job, Sir! 💪❤️🌟🎊
This is dope! I love that you captured her dad’s perspective
A proud father is the best for daughters! ❤ Congratulations A’ja! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
A proud family and community is best for any athlete.
Congratulations Aja. My dad never returned to SC due to racism . It’s awesome to see an African American woman obtain the “dream”. It’s wonderful to have a strong father figure to provide guidance and support . Love this ! Well done to her parents and Aja!
This is one of my favorite interviews of all time. He made some very profound statements. Thank you sir!
I wish my father was alive today to see 👀 this video. Born, raised and graduated from Carolina. He bleed Garnett & Black and was so proud of his Gamecocks.
Being a daddy’s girl and though my father is no longer with me, there is nothing like a father’s love and the expression of not only that love in action but the very words that a father speaks to his daughter and over her. This means everything to a daughter!! Well done sir and to see A’ja and the young lady she is today, well done!! Your dad said “BE THAT ONE” and you came to know that there are a million to one and you don’t have to be the one but be that one…be you baby girl..continued blessings my sister!!
Awesome guy, wonderful family!
Thank you sir and your wife for A ja
Great parents! Her father is a loving, caring and supportive father. God bless this family. Continued success to USC Gamecocks and the Las Vegas Aces. NCAA champions and WNBA champions in 2025.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I know he’s proud, she’s already a top 5 all time player in Women’s basketball

Nothing better than a father's love!
Beautiful interview !!! I love how A'ja's parents are so loving and supportive of their daughter..
This is awesome! Congratulations to A’ja and her family. Gamecock forever 🙌🏽
2:01 To hear Mr. Wilson mentioning segregation & how tough those times were, yet he was is proud native of South Carolina speaks volumes regarding their character. He & Coach Staley are trail blazers & it's immoral, witnessing the attacks on D.E.I.
New subbie…excellent content!
Congratulations Ms. Wilson,my favorite. ❤
I love how his supports her. Beautiful Black Family.
Loved this
She's a legend!!!

That’s a father!
She accomplished all her goals before 30 years old
GREATEST OF ALL TIME COLLEGE AND WNBA
AND MS. BOSTON MAY ALSO HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT IT TOO! Y-E-A-H!
PROUD PAPA! AND DESERVINGLY SO! I KNOW THERE ARE OTHER STARS, BUT I THINK WITH A'JA (WHOM I CALL "ACE") WE MAY BE SEEING THE MICHAEL JORDAN OF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL! I KNOW THERE ARE OTHER DYNAMIC PLAYERS LIKE REESE, CLARK, WIGGINS, GREY, MORROW, NEKA, ETC., BUT ACE JUST MIGHT BE "THE ONE"! I LAUGH, AS I KNOW THE OTHER WOMEN ARE HAVING THEIR OWN SAY! WHICH IS AWESOME! BUT I LOVE A'JA'S "ABOUT BUSINESS" APPROACH TO THINGS! I GUESS WE'LL SEE! LOVE HER TO DEATH! FRIENDLY LIKE, OF COURSE! Y-E-A-H!
Now how did uconn get in this 😂
I'm an African-American, Coastal Elite, Coastal Fool, former Marine Sgt, Vietnam veteran, USC [Columbia] grad, retired FED [Retired at 55 for those in Fly-Over America].
I started watching CC in year 1 at Iowa. I watched all 4 years. Truth be told I had no clue to who Bayou Barbie (A Empty-Headed Plaything) was until she did the "You Can't See Me". I had no clue what type of player she was.
And for that other lady. Of course she is the best player in the WNBA. I also attended the University Of South Carolina, I was there when Alex English played there.
For those from Columbia, I grew up in Saxon Homes (a project for black people). I was on welfare. I was accepted at Carolina in 1966 in Engineering.
I love Caitlin Clark. Stop referring to me as a CC racist fan. I love her game. During her 4 years at Iowa, I never saw her as a privileged white woman, I never saw her as white, I saw an entertainer, a star, a d*mn great basketball player.
For those from Columbia who can see the numbers don't add up. How can he attend Carolina starting in 1966, and be there with Alex English?
I attended Carolina starting in 1966, was asked to leave in 1968. Joined the U S Marines in 1968 for 4 years. Returned in 1972 & graduated in 1974.
My sister graduated from Benedict in 1960 (we were still living in Saxon Homes).
I have never seen A'Ja play. I didn't know who she was til this year.
I'm not a social media person. It won't be difficult to find out who I am. At 77, I don't care.
Her name is Angel Reese. Aja Wilson’s father gave a history lesson on Alex English, a memory. I’ve notice you list off all these accomplishments but yet you’re still ignorant. What a waste at 77. I can’t believe an “African American” man would come on a video to downplay Aja Wilson existence and accomplishments to uplift someone who struggled visibly in the WNBA. Not only that you came here to respond instead of listen considering you second guess what her fathers said. You still have the mind of a person on welfare. You don’t know how to uplift your community but you definitely know how to uplift the privileged and shovel snow, as my father would say. Have the day you deserve and stop disrespecting our African American women in basketball. Our Greats.
Bless your 77 yr old ❤
The real 22 from iowa, this dude is fake like angel reese's eyelashes 😂😂😂
if anybody looks like a dude it is A'ja put your glasses on
The 22 you’re speaking of is not a champion aja is suck it up 😂you clown she’s better than clark
