NCAA is no longer an amateur sport. They can no longer say that. For them to say that CHL players are ineligible because they get paid, when NCAA athletes are making close to 6 figures on NIL deals is crazy.
I pray they don't allow it, because it would completely ruin the USA hockey system. Every kid good enough at 15 would leave the USA to play in the CHL only to return at 18-20.
I think the CHL would have a cap on import players. In fact, I thought they did already. The current restriction doesn't make a lot of sense given they are calling CHL players " pro" because they make 500 bucks a month per diem and have the option of a school scholarship, which about 50% use, yet there are athletes making millions as NCAA players. Open the system up and allow kids to play where they want. I think you will be surprised to find not as many Americans go north as you think and it would vastly increase the level of play in the NCAA, especially in the mid-pack teams.
