Mason has been a damn delight in every show they've been in. Cowboy Beebop, Sandman, and Quantum Leap all great and I'm glad the shows brought Mason into my viewing life.
They're our favorite character on the new Quantum Leap. That's so very cool you got to interview them! I really like how Ian is portrayed as just part of the team, and it's no big deal. That quip from the last episode was just note perfect to me as well; something kinda snarky I would expect from someone on my team at work. I'm glad you asked about that.

That was a wonderful surprise interview. What I loved about Episode 4 was not just as was said by Ian about the Gender creative experience so Trans rights got highlighted but also Addison's opening in the Cold open "30 Seconds in a women's body and already you have been Harassed assaulted and insulted. Sounds about right" focused in on the trouble that Women have in society.
Two major issues and both dealt with in a way that was non preachy or "woke" as the uneducated would try to say it is.
I adore Mason in the show and as a person. Have heard that wonderful singing voice recently and the only word is Wow.

Quantum Leap has been getting better and better each week. I like the present-day stuff, but in the first two episodes, that meant that the leap took a back seat. Episodes 3 and 4 struck a much better balance. It's also still casual and episodic enough that I can get my girlfriend to watch it more frequently (with the new Trek shows, she prefers SNW and LDS, while I prefer DSC, PIC, and PRO). Ian's a cool character on QL. They've got style.
I need to finish Cowboy Bebop, considering I was Sam Spiegel for Halloween last year.

I've only seen The Sandman so far, and Desire was an instant favourite. I didn't know any of the cast members in Quantum Leap so I'll definitely have to check that out.

Another amazing thing about quantum leap was that Sam not only jumped into bodies of non straight male bodies, he jumped into non human bodies. It has put a light not only on the need of equal rights for people but also for the rights of non humans.

I think that lack of empathy in real life among the reactionary right may be at least in part because historically they never had to see themselves in people who weren't like themselves. All the stories they loved included (or even exclusively included) people who looked and lived like them. When you grow up only ever seeing people like you in media it must be pretty easy to never have to empathize with different kinds of people. And it's probably pretty jarring to fairly suddenly have to deal with "different" people on the screen or page.
Not saying it's okay. But a lot of these reactionaries seem actually traumatized by having to see things outside their comfort zone. A serious lack of imagination and exposure has set them into an uncontrollable fit.
When they were handing out charisma,, Mason clearly got several peoples share.
I have been reviewing Quantum Leap on my channel and I am loving the show. So glad NBC is adding more episodes.

Speaking of Sandman for a second, I watched the Vanity Fair video where Neil Gaiman breaks down the trailer before the series came out. If only all those who complained about who was playing certain character had watched that video. He's quite thorough and very matter of fact in saying that people came up to him and asked if he'd gender swapped a character and he'd always say no and point back at the comic saying if you look here it is perfectly in line with what I did in the comic. It's probably wishful thinking that logic and reason will hold any sway over someone who uses the term "woke" unironically.

Mason is the ultimate version of Desire in my opinion. I do hope that Netflix has another season of The Sandman in the works. Unfortunately the new Quantum Leap isn't streaming or airing in Australia. I'm hoping it will be next year. I really don't want to resort to torrents.

It's funny you mentioned tech. One of my good friends just out of college (in the 80s) was a Trans Woman who was a software developer. I never thought about a tech connection.

Wow, hadn't got to Quantum Leap yet and didn't know Mason was in it.
Ian reminds me a lot of the real life Sam Brinton (someone I had the good fortune to meet a whole decade ago before they became a national name). They are very queer and nonbinary and they are so good at their STEM career that they served as the deputy assistant secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the Office of Nuclear Energy under the Biden administration in 2022. The perfect example of queer and trans IDs in tech and being so good as to actually be hired to high levels in the government.

I went into the new Sandman completely blind and wow did Mason just perfectly capture Desire. Absolute perfect casting.
I read Sandman ages ago so I had forgotten about how Desire was portrayed. When I saw the show I was "yes. That's exactly how Desire should be"
@@Iowa2006 Right? Now I couldnt imagine tbem any other way. I hadnt a strong impression of Desire's voice when I read the comics, but once I heard it in the show I knew it couldnt be any other way.

Many sports are not gender neutral you can create it if you want but don't expect that you can be part of women sports! i have no problem if trans ppl want to be parts of men sports!

My therapist encouraged me to do a "gender diary" so I could know more about how I felt about my gender. At some point I included Mason's pictures with the captions "I'M SO JEALOUS OF THIS MF". My therapist look at their pictures and said "They've got such a beauty...!". Fun times.

I have to say, youtube started suggesting your videos to me because of my interest in the Wheel of Time series and because at the same time I was also starting to watch Star Trek more seriously, so I didn't really come for the LGBTQ content, but because you are who you are, and you are so genuine - I've learned so much about that community in the process and I'm so grateful for it

I was wondering what we would expect given Mason was in the show. I was half expecting they'd be dropping Ben ending up in women's bodies at all.
I hope they actually have that kind of more elaborate interactions that were cut at a later time.
