It winds through mountains and forests, past historic towns, unbelievable nature and pristine lakes. Sure highway 1 is great, but if you want jaw-dropping mountain views for days on end, this is the ultimate route through California! 😍

I've lived in California all my life (76yrs.) and have only been on a small portion of this road although it's been an ambition of mine. This video has inspired me to "hit the road" and see the backside of the Sierras. I've seen many places in California but for some reason haven't really done this section. Time to make plans. Heading to Rocky Mountain National Park in a few weeks so this might be something to do after we return. Keep up the good work!

Then when you shared about the death of a parent, I just sat with tears rolling down my face. My father had just died in December 2022. I am around the same age as your parents. Keep having fun! I love that you covered your trip to Lone Pine, Bishop and the Bristlecone Pine, and the areas near Bridgeport because that is an area of California that not many people even know about. Every October they have the Lone Pine Film Festival, which is a must go to at least once on your bucket list. I was born in Bishop and my dad was Postmaster & we did our skiing in Mammoth. I consider it one of the most beautiful parts of California other than the Big Sur ocean area. Well done episode!👏👏👏

I’m so glad you decided to see CA via the 395. The Alabama hills and the lone pine western film museum is awesome. Eric schats( pronounced Shots) is epic. I love that place. I never miss it when I go through. My best friend is from June lake and so we go up and down the 395 a lot. I know you didn’t have time to see more but on another trip you need to spend even more time exploring places like manzanar, eastern sierra museum, Whitney portal, the fish hatchery, keough hot springs (which has a campground with showers), millions of mountain lakes and trails. Ancient bristlecone forest is epic. One of the best visitor centers ever is there. This year is such a great year to visit. The historic snowfall has made it especially beautiful. Looking forward to your next adventures in my amazing home state.

A little trivia about Bristlecone pines. There is one tree there that is the real actual oldest. When we were kids our folks took us there and I just turned 70. My dad had an old book that had the picture of the actual oldest tree. When we got there, the sign sitting in front of some other tree said it was the oldest. Well, the picture showed the real one on a hill side and we walked around a bit and found the real one. Unmarked. Maybe by today things are different .. but it was cool to see the real one. The reason they used a decoy was so that people couldn't mess with the real one and harm it. I can see it in my mind, ...

We didn't show it (because we filmed way too much), but we walked away with so many goodies from Schat's! Their rosemary sourdough loaf was THE BEST!!! 🤤

I'm glad you made it out of there before Hilary hit! The mountains got so much water that Death Valley became a lake. I know there's some time between when you film and when you post, but I was still a le-e-etle worried for you guys.
As a former Californian, this video did my heart good. The vistas are so magnificent, and when you get out of the big cities, there's definitely a 'country' feel to it. 395 is a drive to remember. Great vid, guys!

Again, it would be great if you would please respond to this question!!! Other viewers and I have asked this question several times, but we still have never received an answer from you. What was the arrangement that you have/had when you got the Black Series trailer? Did you purchase it, or is/was it a loaner from a dealer or the manufacturer? I have this question because you made a number of renovations to the unit that would not have likely been done if you didn't own it or had otherwise gotten permission from the owner. Thank you!

If you do go north, highway 128 is a SPECTACULAR drive with the redwoods. It’s jaw dropping. Just saying! 😉
