- The Columbus Blue Jackets finish out the sweep of the first-overall seed Tampa Bay Lightning at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on April 16, 2019.
It’s the Blue Jackets first ever playoff series victory and it marks the first time the team that won the Presidents' Trophy has been swept in the first round of the playoffs. The Jackets advance to round two to face the winner of the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins.
CBJ scored three empty net goals to finish out the series with a 7-3 victory. Watch above to see the last two empty net goals by Alexandre Texier and Matt Duchene.
Post game celebration includes interviews by Jody Shelley with Blue Jackets forwards Cam Atkinson, Josh Anderson, and captain Nick Foligno.

- This is without a doubt one of the most ground-shaking playoff upsets in recent memory. There have been numerous upsets with top seeds getting knocked out by 8th seeds beforehand...but THIS one....a team with a record-tying number of wins during the season getting SWEPT 4 straight by another team which had never won a playoff round before this year & only had made the playoffs a small handful of times before this year. How does this even happen?? But anyways....Congratulations to the Blue Jackets and their fans!! Awesome atmosphere at Nationwide Arena for sure! Good Luck in the next series vs either Boston or Toronto....! :-D

one of the biggest upset in sports history. as a Tampa fan it was hard to watch such a promising team fail. the Lightning had the skill but no heart fell apart early and Columbus had all heart and never stopped pushing forward, hope you Sweep the Cup series so it doesn't look as bad for us, lol. at least we are not alone in the sweepstakes thanks to the Pens. @@chrismatzenbach1967 I think I heard the Bluejackets played the neutral zone trap against Tampa. Next opponent Toronto or Boston would be prepared for it now its known how they used it.

This is probably a dead comment section, but can we take a moment to appreciate how perfect the entire goal sequence is? The smoke is in sync with the cannon, the crisp goal horn, and that amazing song.
We got the hot fudge, the sprinkles, AND the cherry on top. It was almost too perfect.
My wife is a Blue Jackets fan and is loving life, even as a Leafs fan I went mental when CBJ did the clean sweep. If the Leafs don’t go the distance i’ll be sure as hell cheering you guys on. #CBJ 🏒🥅

Thanks for posting this. It means so much to us diehard fans who live out of state now. It killed me not being able to be in NWA, where I've sat through so many bad defeats, bad years, you name it. Other fans will never understand what this series win meant to us diehards. Brought tears to my eyes after it finished, and still does today. Amazing job boys. WE'RE MOVING ON!!!!

I don't think the Jackets could possibly have asked for better circumstances in winning their first playoff series. Sweeping the heavily favored Presidents' Trophy winners, clinching the series on home ice, and putting the entire rest of the league on notice. This was so massive, it barely registers with people that the top team in the west, the Calgary Flames, lost on 5 games to the Avalanche, who qualified for the playoffs with the least points of *any* team in the post-season.

Late to the party here but this is awesome footage of a historic upset. As a Hurricanes fan I can most definitely appreciate watching the Jackets fans enjoying their first-ever playoff series win as the Jackets have always had a great fanbase, they just needed a team that could do something in the playoffs for them to finally erase those first-round disappointments. This is the kind of upset that makes the Stanley Cup Playoffs the best playoffs on the planet. What a run, and good luck to the Jackets in the future, except against Carolina of course!

Oh shit you're right! Wow. I've never noticed that. Probably for 1, I haven't been to more than 3 playoff games, and 2, I am too thrilled to be there, I cant look anywhere else. The atmosphere is amazing there, and I couldnt imagine how I would've felt if I was there at game 4. Oh boy, being a fan of CBJ for over 15 years, seeing tons of losses, and then seeing them pull off an uno reverse card sweep?

Columbus kinda reminds me of the Nashville predators when they swept Chicago out in the first round except that Chicago didn't win the president's trophy
And the difference is while Pekka Rinne was white-shot at the end of the 2016-17 regular season going into the playoffs, Tampa Bay struggled with suspensions and injuries

- I'm a Leafs fan, I hope for once they can get past Boston but that series is far from over just yet. Quietly though, I'm interested in how they could match up vs Columbus. But it'd be a tough series nonetheless, could go the distance. Whomever Columbus meets in Round 2, it's bound to be a pretty interesting series.
