[LIVE] Shiny Roaming Entei after only 711 SRs (1,422 seen) in SoulSilver

- Shiny Entei appears very quickly on my SoulSilver. Very happy with this. My previous 7 shinies have required 15.9k encounters on average per each shiny so I suppose you could say I was due an upturn in luck. I’m still hunting for Raikou in my HeartGold.
The preparation for this hunt and the preparation to catch it took longer than the actual hunt. I personally believe these are the fastest roamers available due to the transition speed between Ecruteak City & Route 37. However, I do concede that prep time to hunt it efficiently using a Mamoswine (or a strong Pokémon of your choice) that will obey you plus the time it takes to catch it might mean others such as Platinum Birds and Mesprit are potentially “easier”. It’s really debateable I guess. I personally don’t mind prep time but others do. I suppose in a sense you can categorise them differently; Easiest & fastest. The actual hunt itself is ridiculously quick. You’re able to see a solid 40 per hour for the most part which is very, very quick as far as roaming hunts go.
The tricky thing is, you need your Smeargle and your Mamoswine to obey you as you can only possibly have three badges up to this point. To progress further, you need to have released the Beasts in to the wild. If you play on hunting this, make sure you have a completed save file in another Gen IV game that you can use to help you prepare and train for this.

Watched this while raising a smeargle in the soulsilver postgame for this hunt, and realized that I have to restart. Don't you only have obedience up to level 30 after Goldenrod gym?
Also, I assume after you find a shiny, it's okay to go ahead and save and beat the rest of the game, correct? In your method, you kill the first one you find, and you have to beat the game to respawn, so there's no way to hunt both shinies (at least with this method) before proceeding through your playthrough, right?
Also, what do you think about the Spore/Mean Look/Ingrain/False Swipe option for smeargle instead?

1) Yes unfortunately obedience is an issue. I think I mention this in the Raikou video. You can either trade a Smeargle caught/hatched in that game you're hunting in to another game to level it up or you can try the non-obedience method of literally just accepting it not listening to you.
2) You're correct. Once it's shiny, it's yours forever until they're caught. Sadly you're also correct, there's no to hunt both on the same save file without catching the shiny and beating the Elite 4 each reset for the additional roamer. You have to accept that 1 Roamer won't be shiny for that save file.
3) That move set would work great.

Is there anyway to get the pokemon to level 40 without having to send it over from another game?
funny thing, I restarted my soul silver game to relive the nostalgia and when I first excountered it, my entei was shiny, making it the first shiny ive encountered since seeing a shiny fearow in leafgreen as a kid
When I first got platinum and didnt understand pokemon, I got a shiny Uxie first encounter. Didnt catch it because I didnt understand, tried but ended up killing it
Same, just got into pokemon, got soulsilver to start out- got a shiny pokemon as a random encounter and killed it because i didnt know the rarity..
KirboGames as a kid I found a shiny geodude and I just thought that is was a normal one cus i’ve never seen a geodude before 😑🤦🏻♂️😅

I didn't know how the roams in soul silver worked and when you ran from it I nearly screamed.
So if you encounter a shiny raikou on the first encounter after the introduction cutscene, it will keep it's shiny status? That's really interesting
Stats and shinyness vs non-shinyness are determined when you interact with the Beasts in the tower. That's why each reset is saved a step before the interaction happens. It's a very cool way of hunting imo that's why I do roamer hunts quite often.

@@robinscompass5951 You must save before interacting with the beasts. If you save after they start roaming then if they're not shiny they'll never be shiny on that save file. So yes, they're essentially shiny locked.

Update: right away after watching the Raikou video two days ago, my highly wished shiny Raikou appeared after about 3 weeks hunting. I’m so happy with it and This video was very helpful under many ways. Thanks Steve and thanks to Karl for your luck wishes!!! Good luck with your hunts too guys!!!

I remember when I had my soul silver all the way through I didn’t bother to catch the legendary 3 dogs and once I got the master ball I randomly encountered entei and it was shiny and couldn’t believe it. I believe it was also my first and that started my whole shiny hunting quest. Still have him in white to this day 👍🏽.

a Bear I’ve been hunting in Pokemon X I’ve done about 1,000 random encounters and I have switched to Masuda method hatching eggs because at this point I’m desperate. It just sucks because I’m so busy I only get like an hour or two of hunting and I really hope I get it within October

Amazing hunt and video!! I wanna try this myself but I'm a little confused how it works. If you kill Raikou like you did in the beginning and then Entei is shiny, is that Raikou you killed locked now or is there a way to hunt that as well on the same cartridge?

I played Pokémon Soul Silver as a kid and had no idea what a shiny was at the time but after a couple tries (cause Lugia kept beating me) I found a shiny one and thought it was pretty cool and ended up catching it.

I'm hunting roamers with the post E4 method but I also have latias on the map. I figure with those odds, and the work I gotta put in each SR, it will make it an interesting enough hunt. also taking this as an opportunity to level up the 14 shinys I already have on this file.

Too bad my NDS-Lite has a loose power. The link connecting the battery source into the system is broken, so there is a gap and needs to be colored in with a special silver pen. The silver pen, when written on the pc board, will make a link to-and-from battery to POWER ON. So, I can't shiny hunt legendaries anymore. Any who, glad to see 2018 shiny hunts from HG/SS
I have a question: I recently (re)bought a copy of HeartGold. Today I managed to finally find a shiny Cyndaquil and I consider shiny hunting the roamers in HGSS. But I'd like to know why you'd have to kill the other beast. Is that purely to decrease the reset time? Or is there another reason behind it?
if you kill one of the beasts you will no longer accidentally run into it when trying to shiny check the other beast

How can you have a lvl 40 mamoswine that obeys you? Up to lvl 30 pokemon obey you and you cant catch a swinub before the 4th gym right?
Hatch the Swinub in the game you're hunting in, trade it to another game to level up & then trade it back.

I plan on shiny hunting entei, I don’t have another 3ds to trade mamoswine in, but what’s the need to KO the dogs? and how does it work when the dogs can supposedly respawn with different IV’s and the potential to get a shiny after defeating Lance? How’s that work?
Congrats! Awesome shiny! :) If I was doing this hunt, I would do it in FR/LG so I could choose the desired dog, and so I wouldn't have to KO the other and lose it permanently.

Wait, unless I missed something, entei shouldn’t have reappeared after using roar if you used mean look. Doesn’t that make the entei disappear? I know you had soundproof on that Mr. Mime, but what about smeargle?

congrats! is there the chance in your other game that youll find entei a second time instead of raikou or is there a way to do it in this game where youve gotten entei already by fainting them? or is it just not possible to change the randomness of them unless it is that original disperse of the 3?
Thanks. I am just checking the Raikou in my HG file now. I may get an Entei if I run in to it before Raikou but it's faster than checking the PokéGear. I just have to hope I don't get a duplicate I guess.

Im trying to hunt shiny latios in ss. I cant find a video on it anywhere. I assume i just have to save before i talk to steven. Do i still have to KO the latios if its not shiny, i dont see why you were KO ing raikou
Correct, the generation point is when you interact with Steven Stone. Make sure you're fully prepared before you pick up the Doll however from the NPC otherwise you're locked in to that building. Get your repels and Illuminate. Route 1 is a very good place to hunt the Lati twins by the way. Up and down like in this video. You'll need a Fly Pokémon.
You don't need to KO the non-shiny. As soon as you see it and it's not shiny, simply reset the game.
I KO the Raikou as it's not shiny & I don't want to run in to the Raikou again during this reset because I only have Entei left to check.
