The absence of ANY kind of reaction whatsoever from Gene when Roger says he could be one of the Muppet Babies is hilarious. He just stares blankly.

Eberts appreciation for some low brow comedies of the 80’s (Bachelor Party, Weird Science, Up the Creek) made me an instant fan of his yearly movie guide. He even gave thumbs up to Angel!

Angel wasnt a comedy. It was about a teenage prostitute and it was miserable.

Burt Reynolds was capable of great work (Deliverance, The Longest Yard, Starting Over, White Lightening, The End...). He also made more than his share of dreck which was frustrating because he was capable of so much more. Similar to Stallone in that regard. Shout out again to JB for posting these - MORE MORE MORE!!!! (-:

How wrong are these critics. Obviously anlot of critics out there don’t know what they’re talking about. Sadly, most reviewers still continue just blurting general impressions of a movie, or filling reviews with Wikipedia info unrelated to the piece analyzed. Anywho. Thanks for the timing. This is a timeless classic. Will tou Check my reviews- there’s a few. Trust me: Bachelor Party will become another movie after you see my reviews. Hope to see you there. Cheers

Watching a show from 1984 is weird. They had no clue how huge Tom Hanks would be. No idea John Travolta would get not one but two career revivals, and Burt Reynolds would continue to sink into obscurity until Boogie Nights, many years later.

NR Meant The Film had yet to be Rated by the MPAA. And in 1984 They only had G, PG, and R, PG13 came about as a Result of "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom" being To Hard for a PG Rating, but not Hard enough for an R Rating, So They needed a Middle Ground Rating, Thus PG13 was Invented.

Ebert lists all the good movies that Reynolds made, making the point he needs to submit to good directors. He listed Sharky's Machine. Oops--that was directed by Reynolds.

  • @drumtum

Burt Reynolds could have had a long great career if he had been focused on better scripts and better movies. He just took big paydays for many years in really bad movies, and later on no one really wanted to hire him. He did great in Boogie nights, and he didn´t even like that great role. I guess his favourite role was in Smokey and the bandit 3. RIP

Neither were particularly horrible but they just didn’t really make me laugh or move me like it should have. Early Hanks I much prefer just about anything else except those two.

I'm pretty positive after hanks stellar Oscar winning career he has blocked out bachelor party. Scarily enough the producer if the film based this on his own bachelor party. Pretty scary considering the animal that if it didn't unbelievablly snort tons of drugs was supposed to do some sick crap w/ that hooker/dancer. The movie is just sick. Like ud ever believe some beautiful wealthy girl would pick a creep like hanks plays here. Horrible embarrassing film. I admit at Like 12 I found it funny b/c I was a dumb kid. At 19 I shut it off. I also always hated that guy who played Cole type cast always as the Rich jerk butt of all Jokes. Speaking of butt we get a very unfunny scene if his.

i just watched the episode where they review "Splash", they made the same poor mans Bill Murray comment about Tom Hanks in that. guess he will never be able to get out from under the shadow of Bill.
Gene comes across like the Hollywood liberals today that just inherently dislike middle America when hes talking about 'Last Night At The Alamo". i sometimes forget how common this side of America was back then when i was a kid growing up in Oklahoma. you had those trucker films and tv shows from the 70s into early 80s, as well as the Dukes Of Hazzard. you had Clint Eastwood doing the any which way films, you had the urban cowboy type films and lots of other things. i never see this side of America really portrayed anymore and certainly not in a very positive light.
