I will EVER be grateful for James Cleveland’s music, particularly in the 60s & 70s when I was dealing with abuse. His recordings gave me comfort…literally took my mind/my spirit to a better place. To this day, seeing him or hearing him sing makes my heart smile.💖
Her name was Laverne Mason she used to sing on the voices of tabernacle choir. The voices of tabernacle was one of the earliest choir James used to work with back in t50s and 60s during his Detriot days.
I think him for all his music. I can't think of any artists who has had more music covered by EVERYBODY. And thanks for Aretha Franklin Amazing Grace 1972

@@warricknorwood1986I did not personally know the Reverend James Cleveland. So I cannot attest to the things I heard about his personal life. From what I've been told it was some ugly stuff. The truth of the matter is I think all of us have some things in our lives that may not be all that good. Some people's stuff is more extreme than others. I, however, would like to see a biographical movie made about his life. Historical figures tend to have very complex lives that include contradictions of their creed and deed. Tell it all because it humanizes the larger than life figure. In the end, knowing some of these things makes those icons more relatable to the common man.
There will NEVER be a biopic because they would have to tell the truth that he was homosexual and died of AIDS, I don't care how many people try to deny it!!!

James Cleveland basically copied everything that Dr Thomas Dorsey did, and a lot of the songs he is credited for, he took credit for, acquiring them from people who knew nothing about the business. I tend to appreciate the honesty of Mahalia Jackson and Thomas Dorsey who were the First.
