I hate the spotting system with a passion... just wish there was actually a distance where they're definitely going to be spotted. R-60Ms are always fun though :)
Since one of the old patches I've had problems with IR missiles, couldn't play top tier for 4 months (wouldn't lock on, even in test flight), finally fixed itself. However, the past 4 weeks, my r60s and r 60 ms, take about "4-5 Mississippi", to lock on, but only Russian IRs. Have any of you guys heard of this before, or is it just me?? I've been plagued with missile problems ever since Ixwa. *Aced crews too
@@jayklink851 I bought the su 22m3 with GE and slapped it on a 22lvl crew. It shits on other planes if they dont flare. I've never had any big issue from R60s

@@jayklink851 There is an activation period, labled as PWR on the hud, it will take about 3-7 to be able to Aquire targets shown on hud as ACQ, and once you get a lock it will go to TRACK. IDK if this is what you're talking about but that's all I could think of. The r60's are the worst for this it feels.
Yep, big agree on the spotting system. Had a match last night in my F-5E where 4-5 enemies just appeared within 3km, managed to get 3 but by the time they dispersed my team had disintegrated and at that point there's not much I can do. Still had fun but whatever they've fucked up with the spotting system needs a serious un-fucking, especially with higher performance all-aspects being introduced.
Things like that happen to me frequently, I find myself climbing higher than anybody else to avoid the problem. I was hoping it would be fixed this patch but I don’t believe it has been fixed.

Was a weird match because I was defensive almost the entire time. Still in process of trying to get the full 4 pl5s and am going on basic crew but j7e has been my favorite top tier for sure.

Anyway, yeah you can forget about them pulling any kind of degrees/second while the motor is still burning. Even off, it retains speed so we’ll through the air it’s sometimes too fast for its own good still.
I just explained it in the comment above. They had meant to change both thrust and weight but only changed 1, making it have way too much thrust/weight for its own good or what is realistic. They haven’t gone back to fix this mistake since.
f4e should have flares, they are facing some 11.0 when uptiered. and without flares you are dead against almost all planes from ussr, french, china, israel, sweden and germany planes like the panavia tornado or the mig21bis.
FunFact: The pod that some MiG-21s carry is a combination-pod of ECM and ACM (chaff, flares). With the addition of ECM next patch (presumably since it was listed for the 104ASA on the Dev-server) we could see simmilar ECM systems (however they may work) for the Russians and Germans on a later date.
ECM won't be a thing (at least this patch). Just because it was on the dev doesn't mean its coming to the game. The 9L's and Python-3/PL-8 were both on the second dev server, and then immediately denied by smin1080p on the forums to be coming this patch.
R13M1 is basically child of Aim9J and G. İt does have G range alongside with J agility, thats why it can reach to insane distances while pulling harder then regular G’s.
Those are very heavy missiles too mind you. 1 R-13M1 weighs more than 2 R-60s which is why it has longer range. They are one of the heaviest IR missile (not counting the R-23T and R-24T) in the game.
Playing the bis SAU is pretty fun for the most part. I had fun playing it when I was grinding the operation winter event. The engine power it has is insane but imo the guns are way more detrimental than the speed bleed bcs at least it can get its speed back pretty quickly in a straight line.
I think they should add something like sim but in rb. You join a map thats on-going for 2 to 3 hours. You join you fight, you respawn, pick different planes, can leave whenever and get your xp and SL right after you leave. I honestly think this "mode" would be amazing without any nametags. Dogfights in ground battles are mint. Actually being able to lose sight of someone or the camo of your plane helping you win a fight is so rewarding. Holding right click to lock the camera on your target is stupid...
Oh god the spotting system, it behaves so much like wargamings world of X series spotting and you notice it so so much at top tier, I kept on swiveling my head around and saw no one, suddenly a F104G litterally spawns behind me, no dots before hand just spawns 1km and BOOM Aim9B wacked in my ass. And I was on 70ms ping and 0 pocket loss so I have no clue how that even happens.
Had something similar, I was running and dodging missile from behind until a jet suddenly appear right behind me diving at least at 80° and killed me with a missile literally a fraction of a second later Another happen when I was bombing bases with the A-26B-10, literally watching up down left right to my rear the whole time while flying to a target only to suddenly got killed from above just as I was about to reach a base with no indication of enemy planes at all, not even a single trace of gunfire, just instant death
Enjoyed the vid - I play my SAU very similarly. It's actually my highest ratio top tier, if one can believe that. Probably because it's so obviously not one of the best top tiers you can't just be complacent and try to mongo a bunch of Fox 1s up the gut.
I don’t agree, awareness is becoming a more and more usefull skill. In warthunder awareness at top tier might be the best skill to have, planes like the j7e would just dominate even more if missiles were nerfed beyond what they already are
To give my perspective on the spotting system, I think the only thing that needs changes is pop in distance. If he looked right at any point, he should've been able to see you, at that altitude you should also be contrailing, making it even easier. You are firing wvr missiles, and being blindsided by the fact that you had no SA, is entirely your fault. What is bs, is the planes that do have bvr missiles fighting against planes that don't have rwr. Dying from beyond visual range is fine, but not if you never knew you were even being looked at. But a big problem with war thunder is that missile trails don't render at long ranges half the time, and sometimes the dot you see as the enemy planes doesn't even render. In a mig 21(and earlier) era fight, whoever finds the enemy first should win, because that's the point of missiles. In a mig 23+ era fight, an enemy getting an ir launch on you is indicative of a lack of situational awareness by you, who has pulse doppler, and/or irst, and rwr, and are too fast to properly chase, and you have countermeasures. The only surprises in this game that aren't explicitly the victims fault is the 23s ir missiles from bvr The real problem is that the matches have too many players in too small a map, tracking a 24 player match in a normal sized map is simply too much for a human. Small maps should be like 6v6, with full lobbies only in the massive maps For my curiosity though, what do you propose for a fix, bring back the old mws? A 10 km spot radius around everybody? Missile markers all the way to impact? All of these solutions bring their own set of problems with them
I was outside of the spotting range when I had fired the missile, even if he was looking at me i wouldn’t have been spotted. I was only spotted by his teammates off to my left AFTER my missile marker had already burned out anyway, so the one chance he would’ve been able to finally see me, he couldn’t have even dodged my missile bc to him he would’ve never been able to see it was fired.
the spotting system is not good, but i believe that top tier require more skill than lower brs just because you have to corectly aim the cannon at near mach 1, you always have to watch your back and don t waste your flares or you re dead, for idk what it s skillful at props. you just climb for 5 minutes, and then start turnfighting or bnz ing everything, you gotta also know way way more informations about each plane at different speeds, you gotta know rockets, flares speeds, acceleration
I'm surprised the ECM Pod isnt modeled on the Bis-SAU, its modeled on the SMT and prevents the air brakes from being used. I would've thought it would be easy to copy paste that feature to it
Is you look closely, the Bis SAU has different airbrakes tht deploy arround the pod. Could be part of the performance upgrades because having an airbrake is really useful in that plane.

The only reason I think it doesn’t already have them is to make the germans feel unique. From a balance POV, There’s 0 reason for it to not have them. They’re otherwise the exact same plane.
i literally do not trust the spotting system anymore. been using the EJ Kai's radar 37km range to spot targets instead. and also not fly high or something like the first clip happens to a phantom lmao.

While some of your points on the spotting system have some merit that guys death is all on him. You were a 7k meters he has one of those really cool things called a radar. Now if that guy was pointing towards you and didn’t see you visually or on the radar then it’s not his fault cuz gaijin has horrible radar mechanics. Furthermore if someone’s that high they need to be more vigilant.
I was coming from his left at 90 degrees. His radar can’t see something that far to the side, and the only way he could’ve seen me on radar would be to fly in a serpentine like a moron. Why is it stupid to wiggle left and right? Because top tiers stop accelerating at the slightest input of controls. “Just use radar lol” is a sorry excuse for balancing in air rb
@@SeekerHead The biggest problem is the 'scouting' by other team mates and unspotted planes not rendering so you will get surprised by a missile from a direction you just checked.
I never had any problem with spotting. Then again, Im a sim player used to spot the dot I guess. But still, I like the realistic touch of NOT seeing everything with a stupid label on top. Being able to approach an enemy actually unseen, lets not forget, it how it works IRL. And I mean in RB you still have a potential 360 degrees FOV just by holding C, imagine having no labels at all while being confined to a cockpit view, then were talking about some difficulty here. Id have no problem (actually id welcome), if RB only had friendly labels on. Again: You equate being able to see enemies with "being skillful", because then you can go into dogfights or whatever, but IMO the real skill in air battles is to a) approach unseen, or b), if Im on the receiving end, checking my surroundings often enough to see if something is close. TLDR of this is (again, imo): The real skill is to not "dogfight" at all, but to shoot, kill and disengage unseen, if at all possible. This is how I fly in sim, this is how I got to a 10:1 KD in my 104S without flares at top tier. Fly with your brain enabled, dont rely on the game to hold your hand in form of missile indicators or labels. Hell, I even remember when missiles were introduced, and in RB you would get an audible warning and a text flashing on screen like it was Ace Combat, ridiculous.
Just try avoid any kind of turning when possible. It can turn really well and pull really hard, once. You’ll dump all your speed and be an easy target. Only turn when u have to so you can reenage or defend etc.
I climb more so for defensive reasons than anything. I like having altitude to be able to dive when turning to get some of the speed back I lose. Playing it on the deck is also viable, just make sure you don’t go in first.
A go to tactic in the 21 for me is waiting at the af for 1 minute before taking off. Let the enemies turn attention on your team and turn their backs on you then engage those who don't see you coming. Stealthy play is essential in the mig21. Anyone who sees you can flare off missiles easily.

It really is annoying because i can't really fly around and do stuff.
Learn to operate your radar. The worse the spotting system is the more room there is for actual spotting which is a skill that can be developed. I think it should be removed entirely. Stop holding peoples hands.

I know it's not the most popular but try Air sim if youre getting burnt out budd. Adds alot more intense and satisfying gameplay oppertunities.

I was coming from his left at 90 degrees. His radar can’t see something that far to the side, and the only way he could’ve seen me on radar would be to fly in a serpentine like a moron. Why is it stupid to wiggle left and right? Because top tiers stop accelerating at the slightest input of controls. “Just use radar lol” is a sorry excuse for balancing in air rb
@@SeekerHead The biggest problem is the 'scouting' by other team mates and unspotted planes not rendering so you will get surprised by a missile from a direction you just checked.

I never had any problem with spotting. Then again, Im a sim player used to spot the dot I guess. But still, I like the realistic touch of NOT seeing everything with a stupid label on top. Being able to approach an enemy actually unseen, lets not forget, it how it works IRL.
And I mean in RB you still have a potential 360 degrees FOV just by holding C, imagine having no labels at all while being confined to a cockpit view, then were talking about some difficulty here.
Id have no problem (actually id welcome), if RB only had friendly labels on.
Again: You equate being able to see enemies with "being skillful", because then you can go into dogfights or whatever, but IMO the real skill in air battles is to a) approach unseen, or b), if Im on the receiving end, checking my surroundings often enough to see if something is close.
TLDR of this is (again, imo): The real skill is to not "dogfight" at all, but to shoot, kill and disengage unseen, if at all possible. This is how I fly in sim, this is how I got to a 10:1 KD in my 104S without flares at top tier. Fly with your brain enabled, dont rely on the game to hold your hand in form of missile indicators or labels. Hell, I even remember when missiles were introduced, and in RB you would get an audible warning and a text flashing on screen like it was Ace Combat, ridiculous.

Just try avoid any kind of turning when possible. It can turn really well and pull really hard, once. You’ll dump all your speed and be an easy target. Only turn when u have to so you can reenage or defend etc.

I climb more so for defensive reasons than anything. I like having altitude to be able to dive when turning to get some of the speed back I lose. Playing it on the deck is also viable, just make sure you don’t go in first.
A go to tactic in the 21 for me is waiting at the af for 1 minute before taking off. Let the enemies turn attention on your team and turn their backs on you then engage those who don't see you coming. Stealthy play is essential in the mig21. Anyone who sees you can flare off missiles easily.

aaand for some reason while playing the 21bis sau (or any other top tier) enemy phantoms (their radars to be more precise) tend to not give even a tenth of a shit about me doing that consistently (atleast one of them a game) keeping the lock on me despite me doing all of the above. It really is annoying because i can't really fly around and do stuff.

Learn to operate your radar. The worse the spotting system is the more room there is for actual spotting which is a skill that can be developed. I think it should be removed entirely. Stop holding peoples hands.
