While there have certainly been balance changes, every character feels viable and as though you can be successful with them. The game is challenging, but super fair.
Eddie will always be my favourite puppet character because of his godlike theme 'feel a fear' and the fact that since zato=1 is dead in xx the puppet is actually the one controlling the person
Fun fact: Devo is the first puppet character made in a fighting game. Also I won't consider forsburn a puppet character because his clone doesn't even attack and is just a projectile but I asked myself a question: could we consider the ICs from smash as a puppet character?
> could we consider the ICs from smash as a puppet character? most definitely, tho they work somewhat differently to most puppet characters in fighting games. typically a puppet character has direct ways of inputting commands to each of the two constituent characters separately, often making the main character in the puppet duo "call" for the puppet. with icies the secondary climber is instead almost completely a separate (but near identical) character who just acts on your inputs (instead of say, mimicing the main climbers moves) on a short delay. this, combined with a few mechanics and move restrictions that prevent the secondary climber from responding to inputs in the same way that the main climber can, means that once you set up a desync'd state you are in essence controlling two seperate characters at the same time.
I consider Ice Climber puppet characters, though not as maneuverable as Rosalina and Luma they are still mechanically puppet characters. They aren't as perfectly synced as Joker with Arsene which is ACTUALLY not a puppet character.
Nah I don't think IC would be puppet character. The amount of special tricks you have to Emily just to disjoint them from each other is what kinda ruins it for me to call them a puppet. Because doing the disjointed combos kinda "breaks the game" and is isn't intentionallly apart of their character They arejust an indefinite eieienbu (Yun from street fighter super)
I think the 1 & 1/2 puppet characters from Them's Fightin' Herds are pretty cool. You have Pom, who is the pure puppet character, having five different varieties of dogs that she can control for different situations and can (potentially) all be on screen at once. All pups can be commanded to reposition using one of her specials. You have the Digging Pup, which can perform a stationary 4-hit attack. You have the Growling Pup, which can attack backwards or forwards, with either a high attack with high damage and hitstun or low attack with fast startup and a minor launcher. You have the Pilot Pup, which can either attack horizontally to interrupt jumps, or an overhead that causes tumble on hit. Big Momma has a three-hit combo, a counter attack and command grab. And Big Papa (which is her LVL 2 super), which has a two-hit combo, an armored disjointed attack that causes tumble, and an anti-air. Then you have Oleander, who is an all-rounder who turns into a puppet character for her LVL 2 super, where she summons the demon that lives in her book; Fred. Fred always follows Oli, but has a long range with his limbs. They can be used to extend combos, catch opponents from behind, sweep from mid-range, command grab midair opponents, juggle midair opponents, and wallsplat. All of them can be charged to be more powerful.
My favorite puppet fighter is probably Eddie in Guulty Gear XX Accent Core for the puppet being the true master since Zato-1 is dead at the time. Plus the draconic appearance and morphing merges between master and puppet.
@@aaronatkinson3050 Nope. Either after the first game or Guilty Gesr X, Zato-1 died and his shadow creature Eddie took over his body. It was because Zato-1's original voice actor passed away. I wish there was more puppets that weren’t on a meter. So many puppets have the drawback be that they can only be out for so long, but I also love the idea of the drawback being that it attacks with you while it’s inactive which increases stuff like damage and reach, but if you put them out your normals get worse in favor for more complex pressure, and puppet specific specials.

Capcom created a literal puppet character for the Darkstalkers called, appropriately, Marionette, but she’s merely just a fancy way of setting up a mirror match, and she’s has no moveset of her own, in fact she only appears on screen during the opening of the match and the character controls the body she goes into. It’s a shame we’ve not gotten more Darkstalkers to flesh her out as a real fighter, as the notion of a living puppet works pretty good for the franchise. Here’s hoping…
So without spoiling to much of this Jojo character. The only way I could see Superfly working in a fighting game ( which would be the most invented thing ever or the most busted thing ever). Is that the stage itself is built into the character. Like if someone pick Superfly it doesn't matter what stage you or your opponent were going to pick. Both players are force to play on the Superfly stage. The other gimmick Superfly could have would be stage interaction ala Netherrealm Studios style. Tho I feel like that one might need a bit of tweaking.
Love the creativity! I was thinking something similar, where it would be like when Squigly is a tag partner for a team in Skullgirls. Her tombstone is always present on the stage you pick, but it can be on any stage, so she essentially brings it with her. Superfly would magically be on whatever stage you pick, regardless of when or where that stage is. Then it would function as the impediment/puppet that it would play like. Either way, you have a similar idea that I had, so good thinking!
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but Shadow Labrys' persona is Asterius, the minotaur from greek mythology. And yes, it is always angry, and can curse the user to madness after enough use.
10. Tag team, NOT Puppet user 9. Tag team, NOT Puppet user 8. Summoner, NOT Puppet user 7. ACTUAL PUPPET USER, via psychic manipulation 6. NOT a puppet user the weapon HAS to be an actual puppet! 5. ACTUAL PUPPET USER, via curse/possession 4. Summoner, NOT Puppet user 3. Shadow possession/magic, NOT Puppet user 2. The only puppetry is movement, its a soul vessel with relative autonomy 1. Immortal, NOT Puppet user try again
Yeah. She sure does look cute in a way. But when you're looking into her heart, beware. Lieselotte has a lot of secrets and mysteries that hide within her.
Both are good ones! While I didn't have a 1 per series restriction, since there were more than 10 series to pick from, I only chose one Blazblue rep. Carl made it over Relius since I like that Ada is always present on the field, compared to Relius's wife, who just gets summoned and goes away if not used. Still, Relius is a good pick over Carl since he's very interesting, on and off the arena
A character technically being two characters doesn't automatically make them a puppet fighter. Annie/Sagan and Squigly/Leviathan still control as if they were one character. A good rule of thumb is checking if the main fighter and the puppet can be in different places on the screen at the same time. If both characters are stuck to each other and can't be separated, odds are they aren't a puppet fighter.
Along similar lines to this concept, could you do Top 10 summoner characters in fighting games? I dont know if there's even that many, I can only think of 4 myself, but If there are any others I'd love to see them Id define a summoner character as similar to a Puppet character but you can summon multiple, they all have there own health and they act largely on there own with simple AI. The only ones I can think of are Pre-3DS King Dedede with his Waddle Dees and Doos, Nappa with his Saibamen and Gargos and Jack-O with all there minions Edit: Strive Jack-O I would no longer define as a summoner
@@Crisisadvantage After looking Robo-Fortune Gameplay up... Unless she has another move I didnt see in action I can only assume you mean her heads, in which case, absolutely not
I would say I want a character from darkstalkers or mvc but these are the only ideas I have Qbee: she uses other small bees Anakaris: uses khabit his servant Marionette and shadow: literally mirror match characters Amingo: uses mini cactuses
Does Olimar count as a puppeteer character? I think he’s pretty neat. Who else has it written down in their game plan to cull the weak minions by throwing them off cliffs or into enemy projectiles. Plus the gimmick where your normals change based on which minions are in and out of rotation is really neat and surprisingly faithful to the games.
Every time I think you forgot someone you mention them at the end. I was like hold up where is Menat! 😄 Great list! But I do wonder what made you choose Carl over Relius since he uses his wife as a puppet. I would have pick Carl as well but I was just wondering your thoughts.
Most people didn't know that Viola is actually Amy. The girl that vampire dude whose name I can't remember takes care of before she lost her memory, until long after the game came out
I always envisioned Poison Ivy as puppet characters where she zones using a Venus flytrap as her means of attack. But she is another basic melee fighter is injustice which makes no sense for her.
Strive gave everyone a major boost! If it came out a bit sooner, I probably would have had a bit of gameplay from it in this game, but the original GG and Xrd at least show off some of Zato's flair
Would Android 18 or Captain Ginyu in Dragon Ball FighterZ count? Two other characters (Videl and Nappa) have summonable assist characters, but I think 18 and Ginyu are the closest ones.
I don't know if they would count but honorable mentions to Ice Climbers and Atrocitus from Injustice 2. He doesn't have a puppet per say but Dex Starr kinda works like one

However, they're always willing to help if I needed it and we are planning bigger collabs like what I do with other cohosts for when they collab with me next.
Surprised that Jack-O did not make the list even as an HM. She had the whole puppet play style.
Might not be on this because outside of buffing them or making them explode, the minions are purely automatic, thus not traditional puppet characters.
@@IppoX90 okay. What about Giovanna from Strive?
@@gilessaint-loup2426 Her pal is just something that gives passive bonus depending on your tension meter, not seperately controllable.
@@IppoX90 You mean pet right!? If this was a list of fighting game characters with pets, it would make sense.
@@akilcharles3473 Yup, that. I just tend to call it pal.
after watching some of previous top ten, im wondef if you already did a top ten superb boss o secret boss . i mean like: kyo/iori at King Of Fighters 99, Order Sol at Guilty GearAccent Core +, unlimited Ragna/Nine/Izanami at BlazBlue CentralFiction, Akuma at Street Fighter 2
(bosses after the final boss not guaranted to appear only if certain conditions are met)
Secret Bosses is one of the few types of characters I have not covered. Definitely would like to do it some day.
And Kankuro cries in the corner
Carl Clover bean with a freak sibling elsewhere twins with hat daddy dammit these games are perfect
I choose Relius over his son because his Astral Finish is so good and honestly looks more interesting.
And Shadow became the opponent it just defeated for the next fight, right?
That's what ELEVEN should have been in SF5!
unfun fact, zatos voice actor died of cancer. when this happed they killed him off and let eddie take over
Can you do a ten ten characters using weird robotic weapons?
What about Sasori? He can literally control 100 puppets at once.
Ferra&torra from mortal Kombat x
10. Tag team, NOT Puppet user
9. Tag team, NOT Puppet user
8. Summoner, NOT Puppet user
7. ACTUAL PUPPET USER, via psychic manipulation
6. NOT a puppet user the weapon HAS to be an actual puppet!
5. ACTUAL PUPPET USER, via curse/possession
4. Summoner, NOT Puppet user
3. Shadow possession/magic, NOT Puppet user
2. The only puppetry is movement, its a soul vessel with relative autonomy
1. Immortal, NOT Puppet user
try again
As much as I like my Unga I appreciate puppeteer based fighters like Relius
Ooh Lieselotte looks cute!
Yeah. She sure does look cute in a way. But when you're looking into her heart, beware. Lieselotte has a lot of secrets and mysteries that hide within her.
Pretty good video, I’m hoping to see the top 10 psychopaths/sociopaths in fighting games!!
How about Relius Clover from BlazBlue (should be HM at least) and Galford & (maybe) Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown?
Both are good ones! While I didn't have a 1 per series restriction, since there were more than 10 series to pick from, I only chose one Blazblue rep. Carl made it over Relius since I like that Ada is always present on the field, compared to Relius's wife, who just gets summoned and goes away if not used. Still, Relius is a good pick over Carl since he's very interesting, on and off the arena
I love Fighting games and this video. ^_^
Kinda surprised that squigly or Annie from Skullgirls didn't make the list, or at least an honorable mention.
@@lasatar6428 Ahhh thanks for the clarification.
Along similar lines to this concept, could you do Top 10 summoner characters in fighting games? I dont know if there's even that many, I can only think of 4 myself, but If there are any others I'd love to see them
Id define a summoner character as similar to a Puppet character but you can summon multiple, they all have there own health and they act largely on there own with simple AI. The only ones I can think of are Pre-3DS King Dedede with his Waddle Dees and Doos, Nappa with his Saibamen and Gargos and Jack-O with all there minions
Edit: Strive Jack-O I would no longer define as a summoner
Robo fortune would be a summoner too right?
@@Crisisadvantage After looking Robo-Fortune Gameplay up... Unless she has another move I didnt see in action I can only assume you mean her heads, in which case, absolutely not
Honorable mention to Kankurō in various Naruto fighting games, he don't do much but his one or more heavily armed puppets do
An underappreciated character type tbh.
I would say I want a character from darkstalkers or mvc but these are the only ideas I have
Qbee: she uses other small bees
Anakaris: uses khabit his servant
Marionette and shadow: literally mirror match characters
Amingo: uses mini cactuses
Carl should definitely be the number one spot
Zato is definitely my favorite
Zappa 😭
Is puppet character term in fighting game originally come from Blazblue? Because all puppet Char in the game actually used Puppet lol
arcana heart 1 came before blazblue. carl's design is basically dorothy as a male, and a puppet character, with ideas coming from lieselotte
Glad to see Devo as top 5 😂❤
Wah, no Hisui and Kohaku? D:
top ten Rmukio Takahshi nekkied scenes.
t0p ten NYPD Blue NVVde scenes
#9 that was an interesting twist to CvS2!
i suspect that red Warrir the guy who runs Killer Kombt X doesnt like me anymore... all of the sudden some thinds eric said aren't appearing,
Most people didn't know that Viola is actually Amy.
Have you seen Zato=1 in Guilty Gear Strive? He and Eddie are quite crazy!
He doesn't have a puppet per say but Dex Starr kinda works like one
i am sad that he didn't mention ken and koromaru form persona 4 arena ultimax
The fact that miss fortune literally uses her own head as a weapon and as a puppet makes for pretty creepy in my opinion
My friend was an Amy main and hated that Viola was implied to be her since he hated her crystal ball playstyle
This video made me design an NPC for DnD thanks!
Alice Margatroid from Touhou 10.5/12.3 is a great puppet character.
Surprised not even a mention of the Pokemon Trainer from Smash. That's who I immediately thought of.
I was about to say karakuri circus but they don't have a game.
Would you do a video about VR or no?
I don't own a VR set, so I wouldn't be able to
Carl Main here. Best puppet character.
I had an A.I. write a MrTopTenList episode. want to see my script? is there an e kectronic mail to send it to?
