Hi Can you please share if you had any programming experience while applying? If yes, could you share what did your work included? I am a high school student, and was wondering what could I start working on to be a strong applicant. Any tips /advice is highly appreciated ! Thank you
Can I make some changes to my AIF a couple months after applying through the ammendment option? Will it disadvantage my application and can Waterloo see the changes?
I didn't take any spares. I'm not sure if Waterloo frowns upon them or not. If you have good grades, meet graduation requirements, and have all the prerequisite courses for the program you're applying to you should be fine
hey bro, i had 2 spares this year, partly due to me taking summer school every summer and i got ahead. just got into waterloo software eng this morning! so i don’t think they really care as long as you didn’t drop any academic classes im guessing
@@faseehirfan6028 Hey, I’m currently in grade 10. What was your average and how many extracurricular activities were you in? I would like to apply for Waterloo in the future.
@@slkyx6873 hey, i had a 97 percent average with IB High Level courses had been working since i was 13, most recent job is a fixing computers at bestbuy, started a coding club at school, was the coder for my schools robotics team, high level highschool and club soccer, track and field, and won some awards at science fairs
Was admitted in September 2017. And not necessarily! If you are from Ontario, Waterloo will just look at the converted Ontario percentage. If you are not, they will consider IB levels. For reference, I had: 7 in SL Math 7 in SL Physics 7 in HL Business 6 in SL French 5 in HL Chem (it was 5 when I finished but 7 when I applied) 6 in HL English (it was 6 when finished but 5 when I applied)
What can I possibly even do if my school hasn't had co-curricular activities for a while due to COVID. When I came into first year of a high school, I didn't realize how important it would be, but now I see how much of an importance it holds. Do you know if this will greatly affect my chances and if there is anything I can do about it?
The times your school did not have ECs was also the times when other applicant's schools did not have them. So, it probably won't affect you much. Also, there are plenty of ECs you can join outside of school that would equally strengthen your application (if not more) :)
Hey there.....well am from india and aiming for uw this year the thing is I have a gpa of 3.7(unweighted) and have some extracurricular as well such as one startup (which didn't work well but yea I financed it with freelancing), have a bit of computer hardware expertise), have been coding in php for last one year.....was a vb6 programmer in grade 6-7....Am just worried how the peeps have 95% above average and mine is just summing up to 90%.....are there any chances I get into uw? [software engineering]
I'm applying for CS and currently doing the A-level programs. My predicted grades that I'm applying with is A*AA for Physics, Math and Biology which is (according to what I found on the internet) around 39 for IB. You reckon I got a good chance? I also have around 2 years of coding experience all self-taught and for my EC's I mentioned 200 hours of volunteering, some projects I made such as an online messaging platform and currently working on a mobile app, and some school clubs + online courses etc. Unfortunately, most of my EC's are non-school related do u think that'll drag me down a bit? I also have some academic and non-academic awards that I listed down but honestly I've seen what some other people have done and their grades and I'm really doubting if I have a chance or not. PS I am an international applicant
I don't think it matters whether your EC's are in school or not. 39 is not top applicant level, but still really good I think plus it seems you have some good extra-curriculars. You should have good shot imo. You've already applied , so don't stress too much :D Good luck!
The grades thing is terrible advice, your program is more important than the university. To put into perspective there is always atleast one student who gets into Waterloo SE with an avg in the 80s. To be successful in engineering, you have to be passionate about what your studying otherwise you will fail.
nah high grades are still the most important. if you have a 97 average with 0 ECs, you still have a way higher chance at admission than someone with an 85 with really good ECs
ECs are only given a point out of 5 on the AIF so grades are significantly more important than extra curricular activities. In fact, your interview is also weighted around 5.
Congrats Nishant!..Its so good to see you and helping the future applicants in your own way..Very thoughtful and resourceful..Thank you!!
This was so helpful thanks! Excited to see new videos from you!!
This was really helpful, quick and to the point!
Glad you liked it :D
Please how do I delete files uploaded mistakenly on Quest during Grad school application
Wow! Amazing video! So insightful! Wish I had known this before applying to SE!
Thank you soo much!
For making this video

I am from the US, and I was wondering how different it would be for me to apply and whether it makes it harder or no difference in acceptance.
Hello Nishant, I need some guidance regarding AIF. Could you please assist thru a virtual meet? Thanks

Unless you have something substantial that has changed in your application I would say it probably wont have a difference
Okay, thanks
Euclid actually does matter, and all the Waterloo Math contests, even if you do terribly. They like Math enthusiasts, that's why.
I appreciate the info man
Glad you found it helpful :)
What are chances of getting admission if you are on waiting list … . Till what time you get admission offer ????
where did you get the probability chart at 0:50 from? can you post the link?
