Boy that is really cool that you have your Dad's guns. my Dad and I had a great collection before I went into the Navy but unfortunately I was deployed when he passed and my sister's sold all of the collection, very nice my friend now I'm working on something I can pass. along to my so. and insure he gets them. thanks for making me remember.

Thanks. Glad to know I'm providing some entertainment for you all. Any special requests you guys have for shooting videos, pass them along.
I'm going to do a couple of AR videos with my short Bushmaster (my deer decoy hunting rifle :-) ) and my 25-year-old Colt A-2. Message me if you can think of anything you'd like me to point out about how they are in real service. Mine have never left the safe confines of my shooting range, where the turkeys and bowling pins rarely shoot back! :-)

Hickok I remember western auto here in NH a long time ago. Before I even heard of Wal Mart or Home Depot. Was a little shop next to the Rexall, Ben Franklin, and Trustworthy hardware. Those were the days when things were simple. I'm barely 40 but the world has changed hasn't it and I guess I have an old soul. I really liked your story about your revelation & your dad. You beamed when you were talking and I thought it was real nice. I own the Buckmark urx standard & love it. The grips are unreal.

sure do remember Western Auto and Revelation firearms! Back in the 60's I used to go into the Western Auto store to gawk and the Bicycles and the Guns! I only bought and used 22 shorts back then...the 22 Longs and Long Rifles were way too expensive!

    • @leonardpearlman4017
      @leonardpearlman4017 4 роки тому

I just recently realized that .22 shorts were still available! The box is so tiny. I still like them. It's funny to be at a range with this, people are sometimes making a lot of noise, and I'm more in airgun territory. It definitely gets a laugh sometimes. I've never seen a bulk pack of them, maybe a thousand rounds would just be like a quart? Never thought of that until just this moment.

Back in the early 50s my dad and I would go to Sears Roebuck every Saturday morning to get needed hardware for his weekend repairs. The first place we always stopped was the gun area were I would check out all the .22 s, back then you could even buy Sears own .22 ammo. I remember it was real cheap about $3.50 for 1000 rds. After we finish the chores we would plink for whatever was left of the weekend. Didn't know how good we had it.

Honestly, I know others love them, but I've never had must attraction to conversion kits. I see the .22 as a separate little animal and have never been motivated to make my 1911 or AR-15 a .22 Rimfire. Guess I'm not very typical, though.

Just got back from the range shooting my new 455 CZ. I hadn't shot a single round of anything since around 2008. Sighted her in at 25 yards on paper, then set up my spinner steel target at 50 and started plinking away. Oh my goodness! I had always wanted one of those spinners and I forgot how fun plinking was. What fun. I felt like a kid again. I can't wait to get out in the field again hunting woodchucks.

I agree that a 22 LR may not stop a drugged up intruder bent on harming you, but it can be a good cartridge in most cases if you want to use an actual firearm but also if you want to give the intruder a chance to run away and come out of it alive. I think that it would be a traumatizing event for any of us to actually have to use, say a 12 gauge or comparable round on a human... to the point where you might hesitate the next time if you had to do it repeatedly (like in a SHTF scenario).
I'm not very experienced but judging by some ballistics tests, it seems that a 22 LR would do the job at frightening the bad guy but still giving them more of a chance of survival than if they were hit with a larger round. If you have a semi-auto, you can always shoot multiple times.

22s are and always will be my favorite forearms to shoot. Thanks for the great videos you make and keep up the great work. I even like your videos of fire arms i have no interest in and you have helped me decide on a few purchases, the latest being a heritage rough rider last weekend which i love shooting already

The first handgun I ever fired was a .22 revolver as well. It is an old H&R 6-shot Gunfighter that belonged to my great-grandfather. And I still have it. It's a little rough around the edges, but it still shoots great and accurately. I really enjoy it.

Got my 10/22, the first gun I've ever fired when I was 15. I worked that summer and went as often as an adult was available to take me to the range. A box of 500rds was $20. This was 8 years ago, and man has that changed!
I still see 22 in my local shops, but 20 will get you a quality box of 50rds. Bulk ammo is way more.

Been shooting.22lr rifles and handguns all my life.. wife gets pissed about my obsession with .22 rifles and handguns..and .410 is another favorite.. addicting both of them..and you look away from them and when you want to relive the good old days it got very expensive.. I even have a Western auto .22lr rifle.. anyway went to get a pump .410 and the dam dude at the gun store was like " yep , that'll be $975.00 for that there .410". I almost passed out 😭,, and then started looking around and $400 or so for a 10/22 !! This was a few years ago a good few but dam man ..I still don't have my .410 but have 6 rifles and handguns in .22.. last year finally got a Browning Buckmark field target 4" and can't be more proud.. always keep your.22's guys ..they don't get cheaper anymore

I can actually imagine Little Hickok laughing and shooting a car. :)
Thanks Mama Hickok for buying the gun so that Hickok Jr. got his first shot out of a handgun. Without that gun, there would be no Hickok45 shooting videos.
Thanks, Keep up the good work !!

My dad bought a Ruger GP100 in the '80s for my grandfather. When he passed away my dad took it back and has since then passed it onto me last year. First handgun I ever fired (didn't start shooting until I was 17)

I love the idea of grandfathered firearms or holding onto something your father or grandfather had. Unfortunate but my grandfathers gun collection of various rifles landed in the hands of my aunts who were more interested in the couple hundred dollars that could be made rather than the sentimental value or keeping them in the family or possibly grandfathering them to their children or nephews... Keep heirloom's in the family people! You will always regret selling them later!
Sweet pistols Hickok!! I would love to have a .22lr pistol but in most cases they are more expensive for the higher quality ones compared to your typical pistol caliber handguns! I might just have to suck it up and splurge on the S&W Model 41 or Ruger Mark 3 hunter one of these days.

I think I told you in my other comment about getting my dads s&w model 27 I also have his s&w model 41 dates mid 50's. which I shot many, many times when I was young. Both handguns came to me when dad passed. Like you said on the one from your dad, they are priceless. I personally own a dozen .22 handguns and 4 or 5 .22 rifles. I have never had or shot a .22 that didn't like Remington Golden bullets.

Thanks for pointing out how things
used to be back in 1960 .We are down
to about 1 place in Salisbury MD where
we can buy a good selection of handguns.
We need to remind the young generation
what it was like to live in a free country.
    Great Video!

The Smith model 41 is a class act. When it comes to American made target pistols, only the Hi-Standard Victor even comes close.

Hi Hickok, Very nice revolver. We had Western Auto in Myrtle Point, Coquille, and Coos Bay,Or. I have an Old H&R 949
AKA the 49'r 9 shot revolver. SA/DA Simple gun. A little different in its unloading. Looks like yours pushes all 9 out at once. I have to roll the cylinder and push out each empty. Very Accurate. Heavy trigger in DA..Nice light trigger in SA.
On the 41..very nice..I have 3 of the cheaper yet accurate Smith 22A-1 . We use them for a monthly steel challenge . All three have red dot reflex sights. Simply put...Fun Gun extreme..

Bought a pistol at an auto parts store. I remember when auto parts stores carried stuff like that. Damn I'm old. I bet that bad boy shoots like a dream too. It was made back when quality was important and affordable.

the super accurate target type pistols like the S&W 41 are really designed to shoot standard velocity only. I have discovered that when I shoot High Velocity rounds in my 41 that I get those same spent round stuck on top of a live round trying to go into the chamber jam-ups as well. Try shooting just the standard velocity CCI 22 ammo in your gun an I bet you will find that it will go back to shooting your fast finger automatic mode with out a hick-up :) The accuracy if you bench rest the gun will go up 3 fold just by changing to standard velocity ammo as well.
