Songs and calls of the Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) in HD, high definition.

Western Meadowlarks seek the wide open spaces of native grasslands and agricultural fields for spring and summer breeding and winter foraging.
The buoyant, flutelike melody of the Western Meadowlark ringing out across a field can brighten anyone’s day. Meadowlarks are often more easily heard than seen, unless you spot a male singing from a fence post. This colorful member of the blackbird family flashes a vibrant yellow breast crossed by a distinctive, black, V-shaped band. Look and listen for these stout ground feeders in grasslands, meadows, pastures, and along marsh edges throughout the West and Midwest, where flocks strut and feed on seeds and insects.
Western Meadowlark song and singing. Song of the western meadowlark. Western Meadowlark singing. Western Meadowlark singing on territory in Montana.
Look for these appealing and stunning birds sitting perched on top of a fence post, in the uppermost branches of a sagebrush, tree or on power poles and wires singing their hearts out. The typical sighting of a Western Meadowlark singing from a fence along the roadway. In this clip you can hear another Meadowlark calling back in the background.
The beautiful sounds of a Western Meadowlark singing its song along the backroads and by-ways of Montana.
Did you know that the Western Meadowlark is the State Bird of Nebraska, Wyoming, Kansas, North Dakota, Oregon, Montana.
Singing at least three variations of a song and some interesting chattering calls. Watch this gorgeous bird and you'll never forget him. One of the most striking and melodious songbirds of the west.
Here is a great video of a Western Meadow Lark singing after a recent spring snow storm.
Its song is music to our ears and brings back the sounds of our childhood that always lifted our spirits after long, cold and snow filled days of Winter.
Good for the heart when the meadowlark comes back.
This is my favorite beautiful bird and the happiest song ever. I can’t hear it enough.
I love the song of the meadowlark. How unique and wonderful are the creatures the Lord has made.
My favorite sounding bird, the beautiful meadowlark.
I heard a meadowlark singing, spreading their joy across the land.

My dad recently passed away from esophageal cancer. When he lost his other faculties but could still hear my family talking to him, I decided to play bird sounds like the western meadowlark. Here in the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada we are graced with the sounds of so many beautiful birds. I like to think that this brought a bit of extra peace to dad as he always loved listening to birds at the lake in the summer's

Great question. I use a Røde stereo microphone for most of them and when I'm somewhere I know there won't be any competing sounds, I use the on-board camera mic. Also, when capturing birds and their songs, I do it from my vehicle which allows me to get really close which in turn allows me to use the camera mic with great results. Thank you for watching.
