smallrig collar already has an arca-swiss mount, and yes I know, DJI plate doesn't take regular arca-swiss. That's why you can go even lower if you get smallrig plate + smallrig collar.
For those who have g master ver2 24-70mm on sony a9iii it's easy to balance on dji rs3, but motor has vibrating sounds when you shoot low on the ground and flashlight on certain angles
Thanks for adding that. I don’t doubt it. I experience issues with it in underslung mode with the vertical mount and rs3 pro. Or do you mean the RS3 mini?
BEST answer to all i found is: Film Horizontal and compose to 4:3. This will give you the best flexibility to in post crop to either 9:16 - 4:5 for IG etc or 16:9 for UA-cam or even easier just keep UA-cam at 4:3 with i can see starting to be more popular for people that want to use it for their social networks as well.
Most of my clients who want vertical hire me intentionally for that because they want everything composed specifically for 9x16 which has helped me distinguish myself in that area in my province. But for repurposing (if that’s a priority), you’re 100% right
The small rig horizontal to vertical thing is way too much for such a simple task especially since it doesn’t remain balanced when you switch positions. I have yet to try the dji or neewer vertical mounts but for me L bracket still seems to be the way to go. Using the rs3 pro, I find it’s able to handle the vertical set up as long as your lens is not too massive. It works great with prime lenses but any larger zoom lens becomes too heavy or spins off the L bracket without staying up. L bracket is the way to go I think
This is a great video and the truth is that I am grateful to have found it. First of all I want to congratulate you for the great quality you have in your videos. I hope you take off very very soon. Now, I would like to ask you a little more about the situation with the motors of your old stabilizer. I happen to have the same one and while I don't do that much vertical video, I do have an L bracket for when I need to be able to record in this format. However, I was concerned about what you said and would like to ask if the problem came on suddenly or if you started noticing something before they were definitely ruined. Thanks mate!
I could definitely tell that the balance was hard to achieve and it was very top heavy with the L-Bracket. But in general, my gimbal didn’t act up until it finally died. Honestly, I’d rather shoot in flashlight mode than with the L-Bracket. But that’s just my opinion. What gimbal do you have?
@@calincharles I see. Alright then, I'll be careful and I'll be looking for this R vertical mount to try lighten the load a bit. I actually have the same one you had, it's the Ronin SC2, which is why I was even more concerned haha. Thanks.
Bro I loved seeing how in focus you're hands were this video :P I jest. Thanks heaps, been having to do a fair bit of vertical stuff recently, this is a handy vid. Cheers brother!
Thanks for this video! and for raising awareness that it's pointless to quickly set the camera vertically and go off to conquer the world. When the engines are on, it might still work, but it's at the expense of the engines that have to deal with that resistance, and it probably drains the battery faster.
It doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks about it. The fact that the vertical mount is included in gimbal purchase is a giant upgrade from the last one. At least enough for someone who doesn’t have RS3 already
Thanks for your video! It's been a long time and you definitely have experience working with 3 mini. Please tell me, if we talk ONLY about horizontal shooting, does everything stabilize well when tilting and releasing the camera down? I've watched a lot of videos, and unfortunately there are very conflicting opinions everywhere. There is something that upsets me that they write/say about the RS3 Mini that it does not stabilize the picture very well, which is often the red light on the display shows overloads of the motors (but the weight is not more than 1100 grams), that there are swings in the video, not everything is smooth, etc., that the RS3 is able to shoot more smoothly. My kit is 1000-1200 grams, but I don't really want to buy an RS3 because it's heavier, bigger in size. I often shoot with RS2 now and I shoot for 10 hours (I know about the battery in RS3 Mini, powerbank to help, no problem), and during this time working with RS2, I am very physically exhausted. It is for this reason that I would like to buy an RS3 Mini, not an RS3 or RS4 (even heavier, even bigger, even more expensive. and it doesn't seem to be any better at stabilization) What do you think about shooting the RS3 Mini in a horizontal position, is everything okay?, or is the RS3 really strongly superior in stabilization with its weight and motors?!
I've had the RS3 mini since release and I have ZERO issues with shooting horizontal. The gimbal stabilises well and I never have any errors are warning from the motors. I tend to stick with lighter lenses on my A74 and FX3 such as the 35mm 1.8, 24mm GM or the 16-35 PZ and the gimbal works sweet! My RS3 Mini will last all day easily on a shoot (taking breaks and powering down when not in use) as I tend to use two set ups. If you are using it constantly then you'd probably need to charge mid shoot with a power bank or in a wall socket if accessible.
I think the key thing with this imo is intentionality. If you’re shooting for landscape then vertical is an afterthought. I see the vertical videos that come from video shoots where creators or brands want “shoot both at the same time” and the video suffers. There’s moments where you’ll have to do it, but if you truly want good vertical videos, you can’t treat it like an afterthought; it has to be the primary intention.
@@calincharles I think you are underestimating open gate , my buddies camera has it and I wish mine did , you can really should what you want and in post you can have great horizontal and vertical footage

You realize that I talk about the R vertical mount right? Lol like you can’t do vertical on the RS3 Pro or RS2 without the vertical mount I talk about 😂😂😂
Or a “I do this for a career and want something that’s efficient when I’m busy” issue? 🤷🏻♂️ Also, it’s more expensive and doesn’t work as well as the other option… so... isn’t finding the budget option the opposite of a first world issue?
@@calincharles more efficient? It took you 2mins to assemble both versions 🤣🤣🤣. And both had a quick release. Ain't no who you're too busy for that. Stop lying for views and likes.
@@mroblige1018 dude did you not see the terrible balance the SmallRig had? lol why is this even a discussion. Telling people not to buy a faulty product isn't "lying for views and likes" haha. There's cheaper vertical video tools that work better that I recommend. And yeah, maybe you aren't doing this professionally, but when you need to change lenses during a shoot and have to re-balance your whole gimbal - then yes, extra time to balance matters. Especially when you're getting paid thousands of dollars to capture an event or important moment. Also, @ the "2 minute" comment - it's pretty obvious in the edit that I cut a lot of footage from the SmallRig demonstration. It took WAY longer in person. Again, not sure why this is even a comment, lol the smallrig is literally an option that no one should buy because the balance is horrible on it and it will burn out your gimbal faster. There are better options. Buy a RS3 Mini or R Vertical Mount.
